Does anyone know who it was in round 2 that holed out from the sand, but it didn't even hit the green. It just went up in the air and directly in the cup. Trying to find a clip of it.

Perhaps Lee Westwood should become Born Again before the British Open

Well his first name is James. He goes by Webb, which appears to be a family name since his mom's middle or maybe maiden name was Webb. What kind of name is DickPound? (besides retarded)

Dick Pound was a partner at a major Toronto law firm, VP of the International Olympic Committee and head of the worldwide olympic drug-testing agency.
That is one accomplished retard.

Re: 2012 US Open | The Olympic Club, San Francisco, CA
Now that the marine layer of retardation has mostly burned off of this thread I thought of a few comparisons that have probably been written by a writer somewhere as it pertains to the 1998 event:
- the winner teed off well ahead of the final group...Janzen was also 2-3 groups in front of the final pairing, Simpson was three groups ahead
- both Furyk and Payne Stewart were tied for the lead going into the 16th, made bogey, parred 17 (which for Stewart was a par-4), and were unable to birdie the 18th to force a playoff
- Stewart made one birdie - on the 14th hole, to get back into a tie for the lead. Furyk didn't make any birdies all day, but both shot 74
- the one annoying thing the media will latch onto is how yet again a hall of famer blew a final round lead to a lesser player. Simpson may go on to have a great career but at least for the time being the narrative holds
- the tree on the 5th once again may have been the difference, costing Lee Westwood two shots and seemingly any chance at a win (he would finish three shots out of a playoff) and saving Janzen two shots when his ball fell out on his way back to re-tee, and he went on to win by one

Re: 2012 US Open | The Olympic Club, San Francisco, CA
Just curious, how did #7 play in 1998? I assume it wasn't driveable?
Also, what about the first 6 holes? How tough did they play in 98?

Just saw clips from Furyk's press conference, poor guy looked gutted. He might not be the most marketable fella but I like him and I hope he puts himself in position to win a major again.

Re: 2012 US Open | The Olympic Club, San Francisco, CA
#7 was driveable in 1998, although I think it was a bit longer. In rewatching the 1998 event a couple of weeks ago I noticed a lot of guys getting it around the green.
Don't recall how the first six played back then but #1 being a par-5 really changes the numbers relative to par. You'd have to just look at a raw figure, but even then there were a couple of holes (1, also 3 and 6 I believe) that were lengthened this year which makes it hard to compare.

Re: 2012 US Open | The Olympic Club, San Francisco, CA
I feel for Westwood the most, such a sick way to basically knock yourself out of contention. He said afterwards that is was the line he was looking at but just didn't clear the tree as planned. Even after that he gave himself so many looks at birdie but couldn't get anything to drop. Really want him to get a Major sooner rather than later, he is the best ball striker in golf right now and has been for a good few years IMO

Anyone else get the gold digger vibe from Simpson's wife?
