Re: 2012 PGA Championship | Ocean Course at Kiawah, SC | August 9-12
chambalee's wealth of knowledge is not the problem. its how he tries to apply his knowledge with his crazy opinions of what he thinks the game of golf should be. his stats of proximity to hole or whatever may be accurate but his views on the state of the game are so radical and insane, it hurts the ear to listen. he just chits on anything or anyone that is not part of his picture.
so the game is in bad shape because of modern instructors copying a swing? wtf. so we are just suppose to hack wildly until something clicks and then we can call it our own. how does he expect new people to learn the game. he tries to sound all analytical about chit but if you really listen to what he is saying, its all garbage and can shoot holes through it like swiss cheese.(i.e. no unique swings like travino, floyd, etc. anymore. - wtf is bubba, fowler, furyk, etc.) also (about copy cat swings in who tiger faced in majors. - wtf vijay, els, mickelson have copy cat swings?) if someone with half a brain and at least one ball would stand up to his spew and debate him on the show, he would be made to look silly.
whats bad for the game is terrible talking heads like him on a dedicated channel for a sport many love and watch. i dont think ive learned a single piece of relevant information from him. and if im wrong and i did, it was definately something negative.

Certainly he is pretty knowledgeable about golf in general but he says a decent amount of WTF stuff and its great when Nobilo occasionally calls him out on his absurdities.

Same way I feel about him. I change the channel whenever he starts to go into one of his spiels about Tiger.
Are we Tiger fans confident this week? I know a lot of people including Dustin Johnson have been saying a long ball hitter is going to win it this week. That hasn't been Tiger's MO but looking at the course I don't think you can get away with gripping and ripping. Long is going to help you a ton but not if you don't find the short grass.
Have a feeling this PGA is going to be amazing. So excited.
As for the arrow thing which I had no clue about

Now we're getting to the root of the hatred amongst members of this forum, he doesn't kiss Tiger's ass the way most of the media does. He'll simply tell it like it is whether good or bad.
And again, his statements and opinions on Tiger are based on much more information than the general public is willing to learn. The general public merely wants to suckle on Tiger regardless of facts.

The fewer wedges you have to hit at a course the better chance Tiger has obv.
Also lol at Chamblee "telling it like it is" in regards to Tiger.
To quote Chamblee "Tiger may not even be in my top 2 golfers of all time even if he gets to 19+ majors"
You cant make this stuff up.

That theory was proved wrong before the taping of that episode for sure.
At the end of last year Brandel was hating on Foley saying "nothing Foley is teaching Tiger will make him better". Wonder if he still feels the same way today seeing how Tiger is hitting the ball.

Off topic, but what is the way most top instructors advocate hitting a fade/draw these days? Just googled it and got like 30 different ways of doing it. My swing has been so crappy for the last few years I've been focused on hitting it straight, so I haven't really asked a pro for their take on shaping the ball. That and I don't really trust my local pro too much on being up to date on this stuff, though he certainly helps me when I need a lesson.
I usually just cut it by opening my stance a little and taking it back a tiny bit outside, and the opposite for a draw.

Also, I can't wait to see this course. I played it forever ago and remember it just being so hard it wasn't fun. Then again, I thought that Whistling Straights would have put up more of a fight than it did both years they had the PGA, but they didn't really set it up as tough as it could have been.
I'm hoping for a total bloodbath.

Chamblee's problem is that he is paid to be Skip Bayless...whatever gets the biggest reaction is what he says. I'm sure he's forgotten more about the game than I know, but it doesn't matter. His act completely ruins his credibility. It's why, just like with Skip, I avoid him at all costs. The week of a major, however, it's pretty unavoidable.

You can apply it to who ever you want.
So when he says dumb things, they aren't taken into consideration when weighing your opinion of him?
+1 to the Skip Baylessness of Chamblee

Chamblee basically likes to hear himself talk. I typically see Nobilo cringe when Brandell goes into his 3+ minute lecture about stuff that in the end doesn't amount to much.
He may know a lot of stuff, but IMO his logic seems really weak and unconvincing.

Also last week for US Ryder Cup points. Interesting with Phil currently the last automatic pick, Mahan, Stricker and Furyk just outside the cutoff.
Phil also paired with Ryder Cup captain DLIII the first 2 rounds. Will be interesting if he plays really poorly and misses the cut to see what DLIII will do. Tho im sure he'll get the nod with 4 captains pick at DLIII's disposal rather than the 2 the presidents cup captain gets.
http://www.rydercup.com/2012/usa/tea..._standings.cfm
US players get 2 points for every $1000 they make this week.

Take a look at the "Ball Flight Laws" thread - it talks about how to properly shape a ball based on science - basically if you aim the face where you want the ball to START, and direct the path to create spin it's very easy to curve the ball at will without losing distance on either draw or fades. It's explained in detail on the thread. Cliff notes - the way people thought you shaped the ball for years is wrong.
