Re: 2012 PGA Championship | Ocean Course at Kiawah, SC | August 9-12
I played the Ocean Course like 10 years ago as a HS graduation gift. Got to the first tee planning on playing the tips because I'm a stud at the time (lol 5hc), and the starter didn't force me, but he strongly suggested that I play at least one up. Which was a good idea. Course is brutal.
Hard hard set of par 3's, especially the two on the back nine. Fairways are overall pretty big, but there are some holes where any kind of wayward tee shot means really bad news. And then I felt like the hardest part of the course was that if you missed a green you rarely have a straightforward pitch shot.
Course should be awesome on tv. Anyone know if they limited tickets this year? It seems like a tough spot to pack in 40k a day.

The course is amazing & incredibly difficult. I've been fortunate to play it a couple times & when the wind blows it's insane. Funny story - during one round a caddy in our group (not mine, thank goodness), was on his phone the entire day arguing with his girlfriend (even while we were trying to tee off), on 17 my buddy is in some deep rough & tries an impossible shot, blades it a mile in the water, caddy hands him his putter and says "Great shot pro" - had no idea the guy had just blown it in the water. Needless to say, he did not get a tip.
On another note, a good friend of mine, Bill Murchison III is playing this week - he's a club pro, and he reached out to Zach Johnson & Webb Simpson, both agreed to play a practice round with him this week. He said they were super cool about it, and offered any help they can provide to make his week special. Thought it was neat that 2 major winners would take in a young club pro during a major.

I'm in Berlin this week and might not get to see any of this. I was thinking maybe they'd have it on in some British pubs but my guess is those places will still be showing Olympics. Really wanted to watch this on this course.
I think ball strikers and power hitters will be the guys in contention. Bookies are right to have odds high on DJ, Bubba, Dufner, Tiger. This might be a good layout for Watney as well.

My buddy posted some pics today from the tourny - course looked crazy hard - his shot from behind 18 was insane - lots of wind. Of course, it was seeing the pics w/his sweet courtesy Benz!

Michael Thompson (snuck up into T2 at Olympic, quietly into top 60 in world)
John Huh (won on _paspalum_ grass earlier this year)
