I'm thinking about working remotely from somewhere this spring (sometime during March-May) and am basically working with a blank slate right now. my computer setup is a bit cumbersome (not a poker player) so I'm looking to stay in one place for a month or two. maybe I can glean some ideas from your answers.
I'm very interested in hearing your personal number one spots of anywhere in the world but some specifics on my end if you want to cater to that:
1) needs to be a western-ish timezone for work purposes (say, central europe and westward)
2) I'm 27 + from the states so no USA. I like to socialize and enjoy bars and drinking but don't like going to clubs much. love good food.
3) pretty open on the budget since it's only a month or two
4) I used to be able to speak a moderate of spanish so there's some added benefits with a spanish-speaking area but that's by no means a requirement. the sticky requests 'travel experience' - I've done a good bit and would be comfortable anywhere really
a couple of 2 or 3 night trips is definitely doable / in the plan
should have mentioned - Barcelona is the one foreign city where I have already lived for a bit (although that was six years ago and I'm still sort of considering it).
Seville is actually near the top of my list. I think I'm leaning towards a smaller city (although I realize Seville isn't exactly 'small'). Porto, Portugal and Oaxaca, Mexico were two others I've been reading about. would love to go to south america but no idea where to start along those lines.
Take a look at Nomadlist, you can search via many filter like weather, cost of life, which continent, nightlife, fun, size of city, etc.. great website srs
According to nomadlist, the top 4 best european cities where to live are spanish.
Not being a poker player, prefering English, enjoying bars and drinking; the UK/Ireland seems like the place, if insisting. I would stay in the USA; there must be places to experience. Why change better to worse?
As a poker player, one would be visiting any places with reasonable live poker action, and there are plenty of those; w/ tournaments and without. The capitals are the best thing, but one can add some more, like Barcelona, Porto (Portugal), San Remo/Venice (Italy). Then there are some additional cash/tourney places. Las Vegas, and Los Angeles perhaps -- the fly costs even from Finland are just 400 euros return (there and back) as best prices.
During the winter (early year) and spring it also can be and is cheaper to fly in Europe and beyond (Dubai, Canary Islands, Asia), and the complete pack with hotels are also cheaper. That is also something to consider, when not playing poker.
