Sorry to say, but the place seemed a ****hole to me: abandoned buildings everywhere, damage apparently left over from riots before I was even born. The "highlight" was Greektown, which was only remarkable in not being a complete ****hole (anywhere else, it would have been completely unremarkable).

Fair enough. In the 12 years since you have visited a lot of the stuff on my list opened.

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
I lived just over an hour from Detroit, and have been there many many times.. casinos, sporting events, going to canada, airport.. even driving up I-75 going to detroit it's ghetto, with the grimy concrete walls and trash laying all over.
Personally my main problem with detroit is that, you either have total crap, or urban jungle. I've been to Fox Theater which is right by Comerica and Ford Field and a car plant.. etc. 1/2 of all the "theater" places are within 2 blocks of eachother. Which is in a heavily industrialized area
I mean vegas might be an urban jungle but it just seems like a different world compared to detroit, and I hardly ever go to the strip etc.
When you go in the wrong part of town it's bad bad.
Nothing is really any cheaper in Detroit than in the rest of the midwest.
The Palace was great to go see shows at, but that's in Auburn Hills

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
Washington DC is probably the top city I've been to that I would least like to live in. Crime, traffic, and tourists everywhere. But I haven't been to any of the "bad" American cities like Detroit, Cleveland, New Orleans, ect.
I've also lived in St. Louis my whole life, and we're not going to win any "best city" awards anytime soon.

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
Listing casinos as a good thing for a city does not work well usually. Casinos bring in a lower level degen type of a individual and can suck a local economy dry.

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
I'll throw one out there Brussels. I use to get sent there for work all the time when living in London and for a week at a time and would be in complete boredom. There was just nothing to do, no good places to head out. Plus I watched the Last samurai there not realising half the film didm't have English subtitles. It was the worse

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
Probably a bunch of little ghetto cities in LA; Commerce, Bell Gardens, Sun Valley, Compton, Inglewood etc - even Long Beach, where I lived for over a year haha.
Outside of the US Hanoi, Vietnam was the most boring city I've visited as a tourist and the one I'd be least likely to return to. Manilla is a huge hole but its fun. It's easily the worst city I've seen as far as safety, cleanliness etc.

Heh. If you hated Hanoi I suggest not going to other cities in Vietnam as it was all downhill from there for me.

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
in general: cities with a university/college >>>> cities without
as for the worst: cities in eastern europe in the nineties (except for capitals like berlin or prague)
my "favorite": Bitterfeld, Saxony-Anhalt at that time

Binghamton certainly isn't pretty, but it's like heaven on Earth compared to my hometown an hour west, Elmira, NY. The only thing that town has going for it is Mark Twain's corpse that's been rotting in the ground for 101 years.
