Techtle Mechtle is prob my fav, good atmosphere and usually lots of girls. Roxy is good if you like to dance but the last time i went it was a massive sausage fest. Retro Music Hall is always packed, and mostly a dance club. James Dean and Harlys usually have lots of english speaking pplz. Beer Museum for a massive menu of beers.

+1 I went on a study tour to Moscow and St. Petersburg and I though Petersburg was way crappier. There are surely worst places in Russia than Moscow.
I am starting a year long trans-africa overland trip so I'll be sure to update this thread if/when I go to some ****ty cities. Not going anywhere super sketchy in central africa like the Congo, DRC, CAR, or Chad but will visit all the countries along the east seaboard minus Somalia.

To stay on topic, I've only travelled through Canada and a few US states, but I'd have to say a tie between Regina(saskatchewan), and Detroit.

Agree I am from Edmonton and Calgary is a great city 1 hour to the rockies and close to BC.
Agreed on Regina add in Winnipeg and Cleveland

manilla. run down, dirty, overcrowded, polluted,

I can't disagree with any of these things you say about Manila, yet despite that I actually enjoyed my time there over all very much, and plan to go back sometime.

It is pitch black as always in this part of the world at night time, only guided by the headlights of our car. We see a group of men, around 12 if I were to guess, standing in a circle on the side of the dirt road. Slowing down, I see a man laying face down in the middle of the crowd with no signal of life. They are all standing there, doing nothing but lightly "kick" him to see if he's alive. They are just staring at him like they don't really care, nor know what to do. Being a medic, I immediately want to jump off our vehicle to help, being furious with the lack of education and desire to help. Yet with several nurses and 1 or 2 docs in our car, we could do nothing due to orders and rules of engagement. We silently kept driving and everyone was pretending it never happened and that it was fairly standard given the situation. Which it was.
I lived in Chad for 6 months working with the UN for peace keeping purposes. We were running a hospital there, by far the best equipment/standards in the country which doesn't say a lot. It was supposed to of course be free, accepting badly wounded soldiers as well as locals. When it came to seriously ill local citizens, they needed to be referred to us from the doctor of the area. However, anyone who understands what corruption does to a country would understand that only the richest would be accepted.
The heat there was crazy, I still remember doing physical work in what was measured as 52C/125F degrees. Water+salt was a constant need

This is really interesting. I'm fascinated by weird places in the middle of nowhere and I have been reading about Chad but didn't hear about anyone going there. Often I think it'd be cool to go to some remote outpost but then stories like this bring you crashing back to earth.
I haven't been to any truly horrible third world places, but Gibraltar would be my pick. I'm a journalist and I was flying out to interview UK bookie Victor Chandler. I discovered the flight was to be diverted to Malaga because landing in Gibraltar is apparently a liability and can only be done under certain 'conditions'. I arrived in Malaga and by the time I got to Gibraltar by bus transfer, the guy couldn't do the interview. I was stuck in a city composed mostly of a massive airfield, dust, horrendous expats and ugly concrete. Then the flight back was cancelled due to a rainstorm. a good day

LoL at Edmonton having a better downtown then Calgary. Edmonton downtwon city central layout is one of the worst I have ever been to and Ive been to 20 different countries or so.

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
I haven't traveled a ton, but I have seen a good bit of Central America while I lived in Honduras.
Tegucigulpa, Honduras is the crappiest place I've been, by far. I went there a lot, but it is awful.

Re: What's the worst city you visited ?
People mentioning cities from Western countries have obviously never been in a developing country.

Yeah actually it would be better if we all talked about the worst cities in the world period, whether we've been there or not!
