Glad you guys enjoyed the video! Feel free to share it.

I would never recommend anyone against getting a motorcycle. It is incredibly fun. Just drive passively when the situation calls for it and you will be relatively safe.

Da nang/Hue would be rushed for 5 days. I came from the coast which was a gorgeous ride from what I remember. Im lookin at google maps now and I think it was Highway 51 to high way 55. You can go along the coast and go through some beautiful scenery that is pretty flat. Mui Ne is a popular choice among tourists, and you could probably make you way there. It's definitely not the authentic vietnamese experience but it's there are some gorgeous beaches/sand dunes to explore.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Sick video. Living in SE Asia for awhile now, makes me feel like I am not seeing anywhere enough! That is travelling indeed.

What did you think of Borneo?

Not going there is the one major regret I have from my last trip

Thanks OP. Good stuff. Next time, grind a little extra so you don't have to skimp on the food You can eat great for cheap in most of those places but trying to eat at interesting local places is definitely worth the effort. This assumes you were really skimping and just making eating a survival thing which I could be wrong about.

Oh, and second the question about your time in Borneo..

Re: Traveled SE Asia and India for the last year. Ask whatever you'd like!

Glad you guys liked it! Thank you kindly.

I only went to Sarawak, Borneo. The Malaysian side. I flew into Kuching, then last minute decision bought a plane ticket from kuching to Mulu (mulu caves. where most of BBC Planet earth caves was filmed). After Mulu I flew to Kota Kinabalu, climbed Mt. Kinabalu (which was a bit underwhelming except for the top). One of my favorite parts of Borneo was the last part. I took a bus from KK to Semporna, where I learned to scuba dive on Mabul Island. It is right next to Sipadan which is one of the worlds best places to dive. You need to get a permit for it weeks in advance, and I did no such thing. Once my 3 day training was done, I wandered the island asking to see if any permits opened up (maybe someone didn't show). This dive shop called Uncle Chans had some no show from a Polish guy, for the following day. I instantly took the offer.

The next day was one of the more memorable ones of my life. Sipadan is this mushroom shaped island that has a wall of coral that drops into the blue abyss. One the first dive I saw 3 white tipped sharks, a hammerhead, a school of barracuda, and probably 10 sea turtles. It was pretty overwhelming. I don't think I lasted too long on my tank of oxygen because I got so excited. I always had a bit of a fear of sharks, but this actually helped remedy that. I think being above surface is a bit more scary. Once you see them in their habitat below, you realize they are hardly a threat. (this wasnt great whites)

Sorry slight digression. With that said, Borneo was fantastic, especially for the adventurer type who loves to hike/cave/trek/dive. It's somewhat expensive because of this, but well worth it if you have the cash.

dirt roads.

But really, you sleep wherever there are places to sleep. Guest houses and hotels for the most part. It's super easy.

Thanks! I was hoping it would get some people to do a trip themselves. You should do it! And give me some updates along the way. I promise it's easier to do than you may think. Just gotta book the ticket, the rest will follow.

hotels, not hostels? can you explain your reasoning? i'd think hostels would make it easier to meet people, have companions to do stuff with, trade information on good spots/tips/tricks etc. hotels might be nicer but maybe too expensive/lonely if you're traveling by yourself?

Sweet video and trip rundown, thanks so much for this.

Any issues with motorcycle permits and such? You mentioned buying the bike in Laos and riding it through Vietnam and Cambodia. Besides the incident at the border crossing, are there any other restrictions that you're aware of? Can anyone just buy a bike and zip around from country to country?

What are your career goals?

Seems like travel reporting/writing/documentary film making, should be up there!
