3G stick(dunno which provider is best there) less hassle and cheaper imo as long as it works in CM. and you can use it elsewhere too

whats the best way to travel to vientiane laos from chiang mai? any tips for making this trip?
01-11-2012 , 06:29 AM
Fly to Udon Thani. Take a minibus from the airport to the border (1 hr). Take the border bus across the border (5-10 min). Take a taxi from the other side of the border to Vientiane (30-45 min).

Reverse process to get back

i looked into this and the flight to udon thani is almost the same price as flying to vientiane and its expensive 15k bht. do u think its worth paying for the flight vs taking a bus? the bus trip sound awful
01-11-2012 , 07:22 AM
The bus trip aint that bad. It's just 1 hour and the seats aren't that bad unless you're a huge guy. And it's way cheaper than taking a taxi.

But if you can fly direct for the same price then why not do that? I forget why I didn't fly direct but there was some reason for it.

edit:
oh right, I think if you fly you cant fly across the border and have to land and change planes or some **** and it was a giant hassle. I'd check it out on thaivisa.com. They had detailed instructions there and also the latest news on how easy it is to get visas and what the procedure is etc.

What do you mean by "best?" Cheapest? Easiest regardless of price? Best value? Shortest travel time?

If there's a VIP sleeper bus just take a xanax and have yourself a pleasant trip. You should also get to the border early and avoid a lot of the lines. I was there at noon last week and it was the busiest I've seen it in ~25 crossings.

If you haven't been through vang viang and luang prabang yet go that way, LP is a really cool place.

yea i guess i meant best value. the over night bus doesnt sound too bad flying seems a bit expensive for such a short trip. gonna go to the bus station tomorrow see what they have

I would recommend tethering off an iphone if you have one.
I paid 800 THB for 3GB/month of DATA. (TrueMove) I get 3g in most busy places of Phuket and edge is some.

I just speedtested in Kata Phuket, got 140 ping and 5 Mbps
