There should be a "safe(ish) sex in SE-Asia" faq imo and then we can stop bickering about this here. Just list the facts and statistics, however fuzzy they might be, and then let people decide for themselves what level of risk is acceptable.

most people are going to wear condoms by default imo, people not strapping are either brain dead or have done some research on the topic and discovered its not as dangerous as they thought. no need for a faq imo since the default is safe.

So i just hear some woman was just screamin her lungs out, open the door to see whats up and a few people have opened their door and are lookin down the corridor. Ive had a few Leos, so hearing a women in distress, I march down and find out its coming from the stairwell.

Down 1 flight of stairs some woman is getting beaten up by some guy, I give my mightiest roar that lands somewhere between "OI" and "STOP IT" and it seemed effective to at least pause the drama.

Some other guys from my floor followed behind me and one of the thai guys went down and conversed with them and calmed the situation, and i just stood behind lookin staunch in my motorhead t-shirt and boxer shorts. Figuring that no one would want to fight a guy crazy enough to turn up in such attire.

A girl came down and calmed the girl and the guy was taken off to calm down.

Front line domestic save-a-hoe.

Shes probably back in the room now getting her ass kicked in silence.

that's good you did something but as bad as it sounds as a farang you should rarely intervene in these events, especially physically. Because if you start fighting with the guy 5 of his buddies or random *******s thais will jump in a beat the **** out of you.

Also unless this assault involving girl was random, its likely she gets her boyfriend beat regularly, and obviously she goes back to it each night, a screw loose.

mind your own business dude - you are lucky him and his friends didn't kick your ass - and they still might....

thai's don't do that type of thing in public, if they do they probably have a good reason for it.

Its hard to mind your own business when its so loud that its attracted the attention of every person on the floor above.

Im most definitely not a fighter, I promote peace and love. If i wanted to fight id have ripped down the stairs and started throwing my fists around.

This is the 2nd time ive personally witnessed a man beating up a girl in Thailand, and the other day before football some guys saw the same. So the thais most definitely do do it in public.

No one has a good reason for beating up a girl, or anyone else for that matter.

Yeah I guess you did the right thing by intervening, whether it mattered in the long run or not.

Just be careful with that as one friend of mine did something similar and ended up sprinting away from a mob, who chased him for a long time.

Yah guys we get it. It's not good to fight thai people, because you'll end up getting mobbed by 5 of them. I'm not going to rag on you if sitting in your room and never getting involved in confrontations is your thing, but from the sounds of it I think bananaface acted close to optimally. It's not like he sprinted down the stairs, spear tackled the guy, and started mashing face.

For all we know that girl could have just recently met that guy and at some point there meeting went sour at which point somebody intervened in a reasonable way and put an end to it. Obviously that may not be the case but, it's definitely way more ignorant to just assume this girl is in an abusive relationship by her own choosing and intervening won't accomplish anything in the long run.

I mean seriously, yah this is Thailand and things are different. But some girl was just getting her **** kicked in waking up half the apartment in the process and if somebody farrang or not wants to try and put a stop to it in a non-violent manner I think that's a good thing.
