5% vig isn't that bad considering that it's hard to get you cash from most poker sites to your hand in Thailand without paying at least 3% no matter how you do it.

well that's not true. if you deal with stars/party or go through moneybookers you'll pay around or under 1% as long as you withdraw ~$2k+ at any one time

2-5% vig for online money to cash is totally standard.

clearly not a scam to anyone paying for his service. If it was such a outrageous price, no one would pay it AND someone would be offering this service for a lower vig. However, no one seems to be doing that

So your bank charges you 0% on foreign exchange? My bank charges 2%. If I withdraw from moneybookers to my bank in USD I get hit with that. If I convert using moneybookers I get hit with their hidden 3% vig. Either way I'm paying at least 2%, and most banks charge more.

For people without a Thai bank account it's even higher since they are also paying around 1% every time they use an ATM ($5usd on a maximum $500 withdrawal).

how is selling another countries money at 5% vig relevant to payday loans? whats the brightline where <x% is not a scam? please use your brain before speaking...

ugh sorry to read this, I bought it off him in person. He also wanted to trade me $50 on Stars, but wanted to transfer it KBank later instead of taking it off the phone purchase. I didn't follow up on that.

He left all his personal info on the iPhone it including access to his email and skype. Me being a good guy deleted everything. Wish I hadn't done that now.

I recently took 6k off stars to my Thai bank account and ended up having to pay 2.5%. Pretty huge rip off if you ask me. Does anyone know how I can really cut down on these stupid fees?

I'm waiting for the next post where you tell us that although you deleted all his information, lucky for us, you have a photographic memory and we can still nail the bastard.

what i meant was the total fees end up 1% or under 1%

I withdraw from my euro moneybookers to green bank. officially green bank takes 0.25% for the foreign exchange + a flat fee of 200-500 baht depending on the size of the wire. i am not sure what the rate is that they use the 0.25% for.

i am VIP on MB so i don't pay a fee at that end

when i get the wire to green bank i sometimes go to xe.com and see what the exact rate was when the money hit my account (my acc history says the money normally hits the account at 8.30 am thai time)

then calculate the difference. at 2k euros the rate i get compared the one to xe.com is ~1% different

Most banks take a lot more than 0.25%, that's a really good rate. What is the green bank called, is that Kasikorn bank?

Correct. And often I get better than the current real rate. Use Charles Schwab or countless other banks and you too can take advantage of this great opportunity!
02-21-2012 , 09:08 AM
... yes that's what green bank means

and i think the 0.25% is standard for almost all the bigger banks in thailand for receiving transfer. you are getting screwed at some other point

Only Americans can get a Charles Schwab checking account, I've tried already and they won't give you one without a US social security number.

iirc, there are also a handful of online American banks that also offer this structure... have you tried any of them?
02-21-2012 , 09:29 AM
US banking regulations require a US social security number to open an account.
02-21-2012 , 09:39 AM
I believe that is inaccurate, though it might be a headache finding a bank that does not require it. Or convincing them that they do not need it.

No, but if it helps anyone I picked it up from him at the building he lives in. He's on an education exchange program from a US university at CMU and living in one of their buildings. First name Evan, don't remember the last name.

Ajackson and jspill flip for iphone IMO

yeah, stars>mb>scb is usually 1-1,5% compared to XE at 2k+ getting lower the more you withdraw, ive asked the guy that handles the cashouts for SG and Malaysia for stars if he can also cash out for people living in thailand, awaiting reply

ok clearly you are just a ****ing mouth breathing moron.

Ive sold baht at 5% to a bunch of people, and i had issue with you calling it a scam. Clearly i'm not going to do transfers for people for no gain while taking my time/risk, and when people need cash fast for whatever reason its very reasonable that they pay a vig. Under your logic, every currency exchange operation is a scam at any point they don't give out 0% margins?

lol what..
u2711 is for 22k baht with 5 years of warranty = less than 800$ (if i right understood), the price for it at dell.com is 1k and they provide 2-3(?) years i suppose.
how is that possible? i mean they have to pay taxes of 30% in general. even if their stuff is grey, prices should be kinda higher.

tell me when you receive it, i might order one for myself lol
02-21-2012 , 02:39 PM
hmm, in malaysian dell store the price is about 730, but they provide 3 years warranty. even if these guys get their stuff directly without paying any taxes, i still dont understand how they offer 5 years warranty and how they cover expenses for transportation.
