The questioner seemed to be gone.

Is anyone currently in Taipei? Is there a date published for end of lockdown or when foreigners will be allowed to enter?

How is Kitty Kuo posting pictures of poker games in Taiwan on her Twitter like it's no big deal? I thought it's supposed to be illegal, no?

hey guys,

due to corona, my friend i are most likely cancelling our August vegas trip and instead probably gonna do taiwan but later on (most likely october since weather will be much more bearable than right now). I've been to taiwan before with family years ago, but never got to experience anything fun like nightlife stuff. I remember having really good meals there. My friend is really interested in experiencing the nightlife there and hopes to smash some hot chicks. We are both ABC's and professional poker players from NJ.

I have read this thread years ago and just came back to it yesterday, but i know a lot of things have changed like which bars are still around.

in the past i have visited taipei 101 and remember eating at Ding Tai Fung, both very memorable. This trip is gonna be strictly for vacation/pleasure and my guess is that we will be here for around 10-14 days depending on if we wanna go to other countries (possibly korea and/or japan). My mandarin is intermediate and my friend's is elementary (he speaks shanghainese at home but took mandarin courses in college). Listening obviously better than speaking. I have warned him that most ppl in taiwan do not speak fluent english so this will probably make picking up girls a difficult task, especially if it's at a club with loud music.

so yeah, if anybody could help, here are some questions:

1) which clubs are the most popular these days? price? dress code?

2) what restaurants do you guys recommend ? (my friend is pretty picky. he is a basic ***** . he eats chicken and beef but definetely hard to convince him to try more exotic dishes. i love sushi, he does not. And by basic, i mean he orders orange chicken and general tso's chicken whenever we go to chinese restaurants. kid needs culture.)

3) if we go in october, we will probably play in the APT in taiwan. However, if we go earlier then we may be interested in playing in home games. Anybody know of any good ones?

4) Anybody have hotel suggestions? Would like to stay at a hotel that is very clean and presentable with a good location. English-speaking staff is a plus. Probably looking to spend somewhere around max $120-150/night.

5) Best nightmarkets these days? i have previously been to the XiMenDing one years ago and thought it was pretty cool.

Thanks guys. If anything else comes to mind, i will be sure to post it.

Taipei is easy to navigate by just speaking English. Most girls you meet in those clubs speak decent enough. You could start the conversation in English, and switch to Chinese only if needed. After a while you may thrown in a "sorry my Chinese is not very good" so you can mention that you are American in a smooth way, unless they figured it out already. I don't mean it for language reasons; but rather some girls will be interested in you just because you are American.

Taiwan probably is the best place for Japanese food, outside Japan. Both sushi and everything. Any random Japanese restaurant I walked in has been great.
Kid needs beating.

You need to look at 12-15 usd/night hotels to find staff that doesn't speak English.

thanks a lot, oxygia. i trust your judgement. it's just that i had previously seen many videos of interactions with people on youtube and most of the random taiwanese people on the streets were not very fluent at all in english. there were semi-rare exceptions but for the most-part, even a lot of young people in their 20's were struggling to give tourists directions. Anyway, much appreciated and i hope you are right as it will make the trip a lot more enjoyable for my friend and i.

Thanks lonelybox. I may be wrong but i thought taiwan just recently opened up their borders to non-nationals recently. I will have to look into that more.

Had a couple more questions that came to mind just now.

1) Not sure if we will have international phone reception in taiwan . (my phone carrier is Sprint). What is the best action? I dont believe U.S phones use sim cards. I know another option would be to rent one of those portable wifi routers and carry it around in my backpack but not sure if we want to do that everywhere as it would be difficult to bring that thing into a bar or elsewhere. Would like us to both have signal so that if we got separated, we could communicate and find each other.

2) We absolutely love love love massages. I have traveled to china a lot in the past and i probably got one foot/body massage every day i was there. Are there any really good spots in taipei for that? Prices? I have literally gotten one massage in taiwan and it was in some store around a nightmarket and it was meh. Pales in comparison to typical massage establishments in china but like i said, i am not experienced in massages in taiwan. Hoping there are some really good places that are not overly pricey.

Thanks in advanced, guys.
