This thread seems dead, but I'll ask a few question anyways. Hopefully someone can answer me.

So me and a couple of friends would like to move to Taiwan to operate an internet base business. We are hesitating between Taipei and Taichung. Anyone have something to comment to compare the nightlife, rent price etc between those two cities? Apartment would be something around 150 m².

Also, what are the procedure to open a bank account as a foreigner in Taiwan. Which document should I provide them? Can I open one on a student VISA or I need a working VISA?

Is there a web platform (english or chinese doesent matter) to hire freelancer and compare their rate (talking about writters here, not pros)

Also if anyone knows where I can find the e-sports and poker community of Taiwan please let me know.

Looking into very similar at the moment. Seems like prices for most things will be slightly cheaper outside Taipei except for rent... which is drastically cheaper. Like half price.

I think you've got enough Chinese to navigate through this: https://m.591.com.tw/mobile-index.html?f=app

Depends what you want the bank account for. If it's for your company then you'll need a rep office in Taiwan. If you aren't looking at having a legit business then I'm not sure you can open a bank account at all. Also the laws for rep office are a bit ridiculous and from what I'm gathering only foreigner per.

Taichung nightclub scene is way more chill than Taipei's. May want to take a look at Kaoshiung which is Taiwan's second biggest city and offers a lot more than Taichung. I lived in Kaoshiung for two years and would for sure go back, but Taipei really has it all.

About to pull the trigger on moving to Taipei mid-end of September. Can live with a buddy (who doesn't play poker), but think would prefer to live with someone who plays full-time there, to motivate, etc... Budget - $800-$1000/USD/month.

Flight booked first week of October for Taipei. Let me know if anyone wants to meet up, see my vinegar strokes at the local JD, or kowtow to the Chiang Kai-shek memorial together.

never been to China before. My friends who have been there told me China is an amazing country and each city where they stayed all astonished them with different features greatly. And Taipei is a special existence in China, hope to get there when my vacation is on.

Oh how I wish someone had come forward here. I used Skrill to withdraw instead, and after 16 days of hassling with them and my bank, I have my money, but MORE THAN 10% of it disappeared on a transaction of over $1000usd. Skrill gave me a vague response about exchange rates and intermediary bank fees to explain how this happened.

Now to be clear, I had a mixup with my bank account number that caused a delay, and that was my fault (sort of), but just from personal experience I would not recommend using Skrill for anything ever. Your results may vary

Anyone know of live games in Taiwan? I spend 6 months a year in Kaohsiung for the past few but never really ran into any poker players. For the fact of the matter does anyone live in KH here?

Make a new account in USD and you will only lose a small amount in the exchange from skrill to your bank.

I'm planning to play an MMORPG region restrict to Taiwan. I think I will need the social number to created my account when the game comes out. Any one here have that number or something like that? Maybe only phone number will be fine, idk. Obviously I can send some stars money for the favor.

Hi, what's the best way to stay long term in Taiwan if you don't work?

Depends on your citizenship. Some people can leave every 90 days with no problem. Or you could take some classes at a university.

Any good recommandations for short term (a few months) accomodations in Taipei?
I hear it's much harder to find than Thailand for instance.

My building does short term rentals for about 38k/month, located in Xinyi. Has pool, gym, close to great bars, clubs, metro, coffee, Tonghua Night Market. http://taipeilive.com/about/. Just moved to Taipei 2 months ago. PM me if any questions.
