There are still a lot of teaching jobs, though less than before. If you are interested in coming to Taiwan check out the two websites I posted to check for jobs. There are jobs sections in both and some good jobs. It is easy to teach without an ARC, I know people that have been in Taiwan for three years and just fly out all the time to get a new landed visa. They take a trip to Hong Kong or the Phiippines every month or two on cheap flight and stay a night or two and come back.

I visited Taiwan (Taipei) last September. I didn't expect much. I was surprised as hell about how hot the girls were. Always walking around in booty shorts and heels. They actually have tits/ass, unlike Japanese and Thai girls who have bodies like little boys. And being a foreigner got me a lot of attention. Had several people ask me if I was a movie star, hahah.

After we left I told my friends that at some point I want to come back for an extended stay.

2 thumbs up for Taiwan.

My roommate is heavily into archery and has had no problems finding places to practice. Kending and Keelung are Taiwan's beach resorts, and all flaunt the standard scuba diving/jetskiing/sailing package. My roommate is currently attending some sailing club up north. The night markets here are pretty bomb too. There is a very strong Japanese influence in the cuisine here so you'll find a lot of teppenyaki/sushi houses and chicken cutlet stands scattered around the city.
Do you have a link to where you train mma? Have you trained at other camps to compare it to?
Thanks

Just got back.

Very good public transport system.

Very big problem with suicides, understandably.

Won't be going back.

Too lazy for a full TR.

It just seemed like a much more business-like and westernized country than Thailand. The people as a whole didn't really seem happy and it showed in everything. They weren't particularly friendly, prices were high [well relative to Thailand], the nightlife was limited and the food was really bland. The ass shorts and boots combo was nice, but it was weird. If they weren't wearing that (which obv like 99% of people weren't) then they were dressed like they were going to a funeral.

It reminded me of the small things that I really like about Thailand. I saw more smiles my first day back here than I saw in 4 days in Taipei.

The business-like attitude was the most glaring difference I noticed as well. Everyone seemed like they were always in a hurry and they were quite pushy, especially at MRT stations. So much so, you and I got separated when trying to make it to our train. :'(

But the public transportation was excellent, the streets were clean and the sidewalks were walkable.

God damn rainy season.

Yeah the girls are hot here and put out. All the girls from the countryside head over here since it's college town so lots of youngins walking around. Clubs are always busy. Very high percentage of population in Taipei are college students.

True. This is pretty std for China though. And most of the world on weekdays. Not that it's a good thing. The people get pretty friendly when their not on their daily routine, or you just stop to talk to them ... or head out into the countryside where life slows down and people can chillax.

Yes Taipei is expensive. But it's a capital city. About the same price as Shanghai/Beijing, far less than Seoul/Tokyo. Not sure about Bangkok.

http://www.taiwanbjj.org/ is the school I train with. We have Muay Thai and BJJ - Muay Thai school not as developed as BJJ but still good. There are several other stand up schools around Taipei.

MMA is really starting to pick up in Taiwan. Just had our 4th major cage event in Hsinchu. Check out Ming Wu: http://www.mingwu.com.tw/

I've only been to Shooto Boxing in LA, and just a few times as I'm mainly a BJJ guy. I can say the schools here aren't nearly as good, but you'll get your fill and we have some good instructors.

Just use the web. I got round trip tickets for around $250 each. My airline was KLM.

I don't recall which spider I used. I ended up going with orbitz as the middleman.
