Thanks for all the posts in this thread, I can't wait to check this place out.
fwiw I have gotten into every club in Taipei wearing shirt/jeans/sneakers, never had a problem

I'm in Taiwan for the summer. Does anyone know of any home games in Taipei? I'm looking for smallish stakes for purely recreational reasons

Hey malkas -

Very neat opinions on how to get chicks in Taipei. I do have a question though. Do taiwanese chicks just dig "white" guys or foreign guys in general, from your observation?

I am an ABC (American-born Chinese) and I do look quite similar to a regular chinese. You think I would get the same treatment from the chicks in Taipei clubs, or do I need to work harder?

Other than the clubs in Taipei, where else have you observed that I could get chicks easily there?

Any guidelines would be helpful.

Is it possible to travel to Asia (places like Taiwan) for a week and still be able to put in couple of hours of online poker a day? How are the internet connection there?

I believe this has never been done before, but I don't see why it can't be done. I would imagine if you would bring a laptop with you, maybe you could find a Starbucks and connect through the Internet... Then all you need to do is buy a cup of coffee (maybe a latte...), find a seat, connect and play for a couple of hours. After you finish playing, you can then continue your travels. You do the same thing on day 2, day 3 and so on. You could probably do this for more than a week (don't see why you couldn't).

As for Internet connection, Taipei is 90% wi-fi covered. You can literally access the Internet through Wi-Fi everywhere in the city (except for the 10% that is not covered - so if you can't connect, that means you are in the 10% that is not covered).

so...is accomodation cheaper in taipei then in thailand???? or am i reading it wrong as in each guy had to pay 30k? or did you just find the sickest deal of all time?

It helps that you are ABC but the effect is not as significant if you are not white.

We found a really really sick deal. Also we were not centrally located, as you can see by the mountain right outside our window. Taxi to clubs = ~10-15 min and we could not walk to anything except bus stops and the country club.

I just got back from Taipei last night. Just wanted to say it's a pretty nice city (in my top 5 cities in Asia) and I'm shocked that there aren't more 2+2ers there.

I just arrived in Taipei last Tuesday and will be staying at least a year studying at NTNU's MTC. Staying in a relatively nice flat by Da'an/Xiyin districts near Taipei 101. I'm from the US and would like to meet some fellow 2p2er's in the area. I love the city so far and can't wait to go explore more. Any suggestions on what to go see/do in Taipei or all of Taiwan?
