I am from a low-socio-economic area, so my perception is not a valid representation of the total population, but nonetheless it's very tilting/alienating. Also the woman aren't very feminine/pretty, and all the girls that I'm really attracted to are the European backpackers, eh. I also live a much different life style than my peers, something that I changed because I was deeply unhappy living like they do. I don't watch TV at all, don't really like movies, cook and eat my own wholesome food, basically just do lots of different stuff and it's hard for me to connect to the average person when all they talk about is how great their car is and how tough they are and how much $$ they're making.
I have this impression that some European countries aren't like this, but I'm trying to verify this, hence thread. I read stuff like this:
http://www.happierabroad.com/comparison.htm
and have no idea how valid it is.

Jeez how old are you?...this description is valid for any country in the world, wherever you go there will be "trivial dick waving contest", showing off etc. I live or used to live in the States, Eastern and Western Europe and South America and trust me you will find the same types of ppl everywhere...also this link doesn't look very adequate mostly duplicating false stereotypes.

Mate - that article's nonsense, and you're clever enough to know it's nonsense: the bloke who wrote it claims it applies to America, you claim it applies to Australia, @jspill claims it applies to England. Something doesn't add up there!!
I think you need to speak to someone in depth about how you're feeling: you're at a difficult crossroads in life. It does sound like you need to change your circumstances, but there'll be more to it than simply picking a random job in a random country.
I recommend making an appointment with a counsellor, or a similar professional: they are professionally trained to help people in situations that you find yourself now.
I'm from the UK, so don't know how you find a counsellor in Australia, but some proficient googling should find the answer. I don't know if you have a job, but sometimes employers provide free counselling for their employees. Also you're about 20 right? Are you just out of college? Because colleges very often have in-house counsellors for their pupils, so that might be a source. And if neither of those options apply, good quality counsellors often set fees based on the client's income: hence it should always be affordable for everyone.
But you really need to speak this through in depth with someone - we'll all help here as much as we can but this is, after all, just a poker forum.

all 3 are developed countries, with predominantly white westerners, the english language, and similar culture, no? bet i could find a ton of similarities. they're in the top 6 countries for obesity levels for example (just one random statistic that came to mind)
i don't think it's a nonsense article. bit extreme, yes, but with a decent amount of truth in it. if you read the links to research at the bottom, a fair bit of effort has been put into it. think the author wrote that the left column = USA just for SEO
the dating profiles article is quite good too imo
moving abroad isn't a magical pill to happiness, and i agree with all of the mature advice in this thread, but i'd urge OP to just go for it, move, asap, while you're young and without ties. doubt you could end up unhappier elsewhere.

just a suggestion but i think you'd benefit from a very outgoing, open culture with tons of hot girls that like western guys, and a new language to learn. less developed countries without a rat race, and where you have high spending power to party a lot, take up new hobbies, etc.

I'm 20
Sure it's a part of human nature, but it's quite disheartening when it's apart of the culture and at such a high frequency it seems impossible to be away from; again, low-socioeconomical region, hence insecure and somewhat preadotory peers that's probably not a valid representation of the Australian population.

It's clearly exeggerated and over generalised, but it seems to have some substance, how much I am unsure, hence thread.
Thanks for the advice about the councellor, will check out, although my past dealings with them have left impressions of total incompetence but eh, probably worth a small investment.

Was what I figured; there seems to be a lot of similarities between Anglo-Saxon countries, Australia in particular is very Amerciansed due to worshipping it's media.

Re: Requesting European/Western Comparision Ask Me Thread
You're basically saying that all people in Aus are the same in a bad way, and all people abroad are the same in a good way. It should be obvious that this is not a rational observation.
Instead of changing your social circle by moving across the world, it should be easier to change your social circle in Australia.
Happiness is something to be developed and nurtured and it requires work on your part. Moving somewhere else is of marginal help. It might change your habits and therefore lead to better things, but that is a very complicated solution to a much simpler problem.
... and there are many people that crash and burn when they move abroad, too. This is particularly true for people moving to developing countries where their earning potential is next to nil, they are not developing any marketable skills, and they end up being stuck there forever because they can't really afford to go back home or get any sort of reasonable job back home.
You are 20 yo. Now is the time when your earning potential develops as you get your degrees, build your resume, learn marketable skills, get marketable experience. All that stuff gives you money, flexibility, and ability to do what you want down the road. Moving to some random place to do menial work is a lousy life plan for a 20 year old. It leaves you with few options down the road. The longer you stay, the fewer the options you end up having.

I think something of that sort is key. If he does decide to go somewhere, it should to be for a specific purpose, with specific measurable goals, and a defined time frame. For example, learning X, trying Y, or achieving Z.
