I don't know any of the neighborhoods in Nelson, but it looks like you could get a 3br house for 1k usd per month.

Nelson sounds like it would be a better fit for you. More nature, less city-life.

Yeah definitely go to Nelson its so much better then Dunedin imo. You have amazing parks, scenic walks, national parks its all there. Nelson is a lovely city. Dunedin is a freezing hole full of students and nothing else.

Hero Protagonist & Colin_Piddle –

Since you guys were so helpful, let me throw something else at you…

I would be potentially moving to NZ with my wife and ~ 1 year-old son. Given our situation (which is neither of us have a legit job), can you comment on the ease of obtaining a visa and/or apartment?

My hunch is that I could get a “Family Tourist Visa” and then just strike a deal with a private apartment owner, but please let me know if you think I’m mistaken. Is it easy to extend and/or change visas in NZ?

We’re trying to decide between NZ and Thailand; Thailand has been the leader due to cost of living, but some of these prices at the link Hero Protagonist provided are quite attractive.

2ROOMS AVAILABLE -- LOOKING FOR POKER PLAYERS
Hi. I'm beesweet35 on stars, mostly play cash games mainly 400nl and 600nl.
I have recently played a lot of MTTs but still consider myself as a cash game player.
I have been traveling for a about a year in europe and will be returning back to Auckland on the 29th of Aug. I already rented out an apartment in the city area called Scene2 apartment, which is located on Beach road. Sorry I don't have any photos but I'm sure u can google it for photos and ect. There is a gym, swimming pool, and supermarket called Foodtown right next to the apartment and also restaurants and starbucks nearby.
It is a 3bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with a nice seaview and carpark, there will be 2 bedrooms available.
My skype is juxxo1. Feel free to contact me if u r interested.

Would love to have some more poker players here! If anyone is moving here or whatever pm and see if we have a room free!

Queenstown is an awesome place to live. Internet is fine, very rarely have any connection issues.

Also have a sleepout thing which is usually empty, so if anyones looking for a cheap place to stay short term hit me up too.

Thailands general cost of living is lower plus the 1 year visa is easier gotten if you sign up for a thai language class.

No western country will give you a visa to live there and play poker. None. At the very most you will get a 1 year tourist visa. If you want to move permanently without changing careers, then 3rd world countries are your only option.

Despite the US being the greatest country in the world and all that, you can't just waltz into New Zealand or any other developed country and stay there as long as you like. The most you will get is a 1 year tourist visa, after that you'll have to get marred, or go somewhere else.
Yes and no. I lived in New Zealand, if you get a part-time job and make friends they can just continue to sponsor you and keep you there for at least 2 years many times much longer. If you don't go the job route you can get a 1 year working holiday Visa even though you aren't working it's fine as long as you are under 30 years old. If you extend your stay over a year no one comes looking for you to imprison you or anything it will just be a pain in the ass getting back in the country if you leave unless you are gone for awhile. Kiwis are chill, don't do anything stupid and you can stay there for a long time. Also opening a bank account is very easy. Just go into a bank, forget if you need your visa or not and you can open one in NZD with a few bucks. If you want a USD account you will need to keep a minimum balance of between 1k-10k depending on which bank you use. Also not sure if I mentioned this that working holiday visa is obtained online and is like a 15 minute process and you get it in a day or so unless maybe you have a felony. Have fun, Queenstown and Wellington are awesome.

Re: relocating to New Zealand to play poker

Hi. I play mostly MTTs and a bit of 500nl zoom on the screen name beesweet35. I am renting a two bedroom two bathroom apartment in the Auckland City Harbour called Hobson1. 1-3th floor is a hotel called Grand Chancellor Hotel so we have reception and a restaurant downstairs plus room service which is nice for grinding. The room is on the 10th floor so u get the awesome seaview which I think is one of the best views you can get here in Auckland. My flatmate is leaving on the 27th Dec so u can move in anytime after that date. The rent is $800/wk plus pay $60/wk for cleaners and around $350 a month on utilites which we can split in half. The contract for this apartment ends on mid March 2013 so will be interested in having someone is can stay till then. If u are interested in moving in contact me on skype juxxo1.
