Going to NZ in April for 4-5 days ( airline miles ftw) and am wondering if i have to choose one, should I go to Auckland or Queensland? Going by myself, want to relax and enjoy the the landscapes. Any info/ opinions would be appreciated.

Re: relocating to New Zealand to play poker

Auckland is a big city. Queenstown is a mountain resort town on a lake. If you want to relax and enjoy landscapes you'll want to be on the South island, Queenstown is a great place to start.

Re: relocating to New Zealand to play poker

so, are there any poker houses in queenstown right now? ive been cycling new zealand for a month now and its beyond all my expectations. im heading to queenstown soon (sitting on a pushbike that means 1-2 weeks). Id like to meet up with people there and see if theres interest or existing pokerhouses. for now my plan was to go to brazil in january but nz is becoming a serious competitor. im considering buying a season pass for the mountainbike park.
how hard would it be to find a room in a shared flat for 2-3 months (i have no standards, can be any busto place)

I used to live in Queenstown, back in Christchurch now, but am interested in going back.

With no standards, should be really easy. This is the place to look:

lol that was wrote with passion! For some reason people from the UK can get a 2 year visa as long as they have a medical test, not sure why the UK gets the special treatment and 'the greatest country of earth' only gets the one year.

Re: relocating to New Zealand to play poker

Westpac lets you open a bank account online so all you do is pick up your card when you arrive. If NZ is anything like australia then this would be worth doing before leaving. Oz is all about reference so i'm guessing NZ might be the same but i could be wrong. Everything Pokerspiv says here is true i can second all of it.

Re: relocating to New Zealand to play poker

I'm heading over to Auckland in a few days.

Can anyone recommend a hostel with free wifi? Does such a thing exist in New Zealand? I've heard a few horror stories about New Zealand internet.

there will be hostels with wifi but most hostels have **** wifi as lots of people are trying to use the same cheap network at once. either put up with it if its for facebook and emails and if its for poker either head to a library where you will usually get free good quality wifi, head to a university and sit in the library there (most uni's everywhere u can just walk in) or go to good quality hotels and chill out in some communal area and play poker there.

you could also get the best quality mobile broadband modem stick but from my experience the connections in these drop from time to time no matter what provider you go with.

Thanks scroosko.

I was planning to go with one of the mobile broadband packages for poker and other low bandwidth activites but your suggestions look a bit more appealling
