Prague Prague

Hi,

In autumn/winter I am going to go Prague with two friends of mine to spend there at least 6 months. We go there because we heard a lot of positive things about Prague and we are 100% sure about the decision to go there. We go there mainly because of the nightlife and the live poker.

Still I have a lot of questions and it would be appreciated if somebody could answer them.

1) How is the price level in Prague? Like how much is a tray of Vodka Red Bull shots in a club? Or how much is one Jack Daniels coke etc? Same about restaurants, how much do you pay there? And how expensive are the supermarkets compared to Germany (where I am from) or Malta (where I currently live)? So basically please tell me something about the price level in Prague.

2) What are the best estate agents? How many weeks in advance should I contact the estate agent? How high are the rents compared to other European countries? Obviously we want to live very central, close to the nightlife.

3) What is the best part of Prague to live? Is there some nightlife district? For example in Malta we have Paceville where all clubs, bars, etc are in one street for tourists. Which are the most popular parts of Prague for tourists?

4) Which are the best casinos in Prague? Do they also offer 1/2 or only higher limits? Are there a lot of players and how is the player level?

5) Please tell me something about the nightlife. How is the average age of people in the most clubs? As I am quite young (rcently turned 19), I would obviously prefer clubs with girls between 17 and 21 and not 25+. In Malta this is quite perfect because a lot of students who learn English come to here but maybe it is different in Prague.

Answers would be appreciated a lot! Thanks a lot in advance ...

Cheers,
DSQ2

1. Beer is cheaper than water, cze food in a pub/restaurant is inexpensive and good in most places. Drinks other than beer in clubs might be about the same especially at the places in the city center.

2. Rent is much cheaper than most big cities for what you get. One bad thing is that all the agencies charge you a months rent just to move in. I was lucky and found a private owner. Check the classifies at www.expats.cz

3. I live in Vinohrady (prague 2) and it seems to be the best of everything. Its quiet and very close to the city center.

4. I dont play much live but the Hilton has 25/50 and 50/100Kc (~20Kc = 1$). The games typically have 400-500bb max buyins so it can play super deep.

5. Awesome nightlife, especially for the price. Tons of students/hot girls/etc

+1 for Vinohrady, I lived there for study abroad and it was definitely best of everything, the lack of tourists is a great thing too

Oh and if you're looking for live cash games the currently running games are constantly updated on http://www.pokerzive.cz/

If you mean those cooked sausages on every corner of the street, that is the only bad thing about Prague! They're disgusting.

Those sausages suck imo. The places that sell them in Wenceslas Sq are also getting shut down by the gov I believe.

Most letting agents will only do 6 months, but if you contact them saying you're looking for 3 they might have some wiggle room. The best site though will be the one that was posted earlier in the thread:

There you'll be dealing directly with the owners. If that's no help then you'd have to start looking at short-term rentals (http://prague.foreigners.cz/apartmen...ent-short-term)

thanks for your response.

am I getting ripped of with this for 65k czk http://www.lookreality.cz/sale-very-...garage-balcony

or this for 45k http://www.lookreality.cz/rent-beaut...-to-the-center

I also have an offer from airbnb for only 1900 usd /month https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2668169...uests=6&s=vqZd

Any input on what would be best for a group of 5 of us that wont have a car so we would like to be near train station and ideally bar/restaurant area

Do you suggest getting a hotel for 1st few nights and checking these places out?

thanks!

Beer is about 40 crowns per beer, which is like $2usd. Unless you are right downtown in a tourist restaurant, then it is about double that. Idk about vodka/redbull. For food I am usually paying just under 200 crown or about $10. Overall prices are a lot cheaper than America.

For getting around public transportation is good everywhere so you don't really have to be right downtown. Hlavni Nadrasi is the main train station, which is also a metro stop so you can get there from pretty much anywhere in the city fairly easily.

The 2nd and 3rd links are further away from the centre than I would consider staying, but it's tough to find anything with 5 bedrooms in the centre.

If you're staying outside of Prague 1 or 2 I'd try to make sure that it's close to a metro station.

I'd definitely recommend getting a hotel for a few nights and checking the places out in person before committing to any of them.

As for bar recommendations, it depends which nights you're going to be here and what kind of music you're into. During week days your best options will probably be Harley's and James Dean.

My brother was there and he said it was really bad with 95% men.

How is this club called Studio 54? http://www.studio54.cz/

I read it is a club which opens only from 5 in the morning until 12.

I've only been studio 54 once, and was too drunk to take much in, but it wouldn't suprise me if you were able to find what you want there.

Yes, most of casinos with live cashgame are located in the centre.

There are usually cash games 24/7, you can always check here where tables are running: http://www.pokerzive.cz/

At Wenzeslav Square, there are two casinos: Casino Ambassador and Showdown Poker Club. Ambassador very popular for tourists, usually a couple of 10/20czk (~NL100$) and one 25/50czk (~NL200$) running. Once in a while if players request also 50/100czk (~NL400$). Showdown Poker Club most of the time only 10/20 but several tables, also in the morning/noon.

Close to Wenzeslav Square there is also Banco Casino, they play 25/50 but you should check before if there is a table. What I like there is that they offer rakeback. 10% of first buy in after 3 hours, capped at 500czk bonus.

A bit from the center there is King's Casino Prague which is a branch of the popular one in Rozvadov. It is at Corintia Hotel and only 25/50. They do often play PLO there, not always NLHE.

At Hilton only 50/100 games are running but on a daily basis.

Players level at 10/20 is super bad but you see many short stacks there, that's quite annoying if somebody sits with 20$ and asks to deal it three times, lol ...

25/50 always depends. Softest 25/50 is in King's Casino IMO. Ambassador toughest one I think.

50/100 at Hilton quite tough.

Have fun in Prague, it's a great city for live poker

I'm about 90% to be getting a place in Prague in either February or March for a yet to be determined amount of time. Anybody living in the city center area who might be able to offer advice/help out with random questions?
