I wasn't looking to know anything in particular at the moment. Moreso just looking for people who have been living there for a while. It seems very difficult to me to move to a new country by myself while knowing basically zero people there and not speaking the language... I'm gonna make the jump regardless, but having something in common with some people already there would make me feel a bit better about it.

There's quite a few poker players living here, and it's quite easy to get by without knowing the language. In the city centre you'll be ok just knowing English, the further towards the outskirts you go the less you'll encounter English speakers.

Sure, add me on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bennyy.hu) or on Skype (benny1887@hotmail.de).

There is quite a good poker community in Prague btw. I can introduce you when you will be in Prague.

Thinking about moving here in the summer of 2015, if anyone can answer some of my questions it would be appreciated.

How big is the poker community over in Prague (would likely be moving by myself so would like to meet some other people)? What length of stay is best for renting (best value for money, most common lease length offered etc)? Would it be a bad idea to rent a 1br place or should I look to find someone to share with? Should I fly over first then look for places to rent or is it fine to just do it online?

It's much appreciated if anyone can answer those questions for me.

Good poker community, let me know when you are here and I can introduce you to several poker players.

Back then me and my flat mate tried to rent for 6 months but only 12 months was possible (we rented through an estate agency, maybe it is different if you contact private landlords).

Well, that's up to you. I personally prefer living with other people but of course you can rent something only for yourself as well.

I recommend you to book something through Airbnb for two or three weeks and then contact estate agencies or landlords at this time. We did it like this back then. I do not recommend you to rent online ... because Czech people love to scam and you might be disappointed.

Also I strongly recommend you to look for properties in Prague 1 and Prague 2 because I think that you wanna live central.

However, I strongly recommend you to come to Prague. I have been living 1 year in Malta before and from my point of view Prague is definitely cooler. :P

I was born there. Nice city.

Make sure to check out Duplex and not only on the evening, as a club, but the business lunch is great too. Food is good and not too expensive.
Regarding renting, I'd try airbnb.com - they offer long term options as well!

To all you EU guys. Did you move there officially or just staying as tourists?

Lol, Duplex is a typical scam tourist club. Expensive drinks and almost no normal girls. The hot girls in Duplex are all paid by the club and they ask you for expensive drinks. Usually about 90% men ... really can't recommend this place even though the club looks really cool. I was there once on an amazing student party.

Another follow up question, what would be a reasonable price for a 2 br place per month? Just for when I look I want to know what's a decent deal.

Any advice on obtaining a visa extension for a US citizen? Looking for an additional 1-2 months past the standard 90 day EU visa

For a furnished place in and around the city centre you could be looking at anything from 20000-35000kc per month. Depends on just how good the location is and how nice you want the place to be.

I'm not a US citizen so can't give too much specific advice, but there's a few US guys who live here who've found ways to get visa extensions, so it can be done. www.expats.cz is a good site for advice on visa issues.

thank you OGS...

My EU visa runs out on Feb 26th. I'm heading to Prague around Jan. 20th and plan on opening a bank account asap. You guys have any experience on how long it takes for both Winamax and/or Stars.FR to send their account validation code through the mail (code they mail to your address in Prague to validate your account before you can start playing). Hoping to not have to extend visa if I don't have to.

also best place to look for housing?

i found expats.cz, lookrealty, and foreigners.cz. Also airbnb

sreality.cz is the site I find best for housing.

It took a couple of weeks for me to recieve my stars.fr documents, but I've recieved post from England after 3 or 4 days, so I think it can depend on how quickly stars decide to send the documentation.

When is the best time to go, is it freezing balls there now?

Can a great time be had on like a 2k a month budget?

It's cold at the moment but it's still an awesome city year round. You can have a good time on 2k (assuming you mean $) if you wanted to live in a nicer apartment near the centre and eat out regularly I'd probably budget a little bit more. $2k is fine though.

You can definitely play on Stars. I'm not sure if there's any sites you can't play on but I have no idea about the US only sites. You're best off checking with the sites themselves.

Stars good in Prague? Does anyone know anything about golfing in Prague? How much would a year membership (to play for free) be in any of the golf courses? And are they all far away from the city center?

I am looking to find a place to live with both golf and live poker not too far from where I stay! Pretty hard since most good live scenes are in city centers of big cities and golf courses near are either unbelievable expensive or no golf courses at all near! Thank you :-)

Sounds great, I've put it on the top of my list for the next place to stay for long-term, outside of the winter

food and drink is pretty much free from my experience there

even at the touristy clubs a beer was ~$5, a normal restaurant cheaper than water

The biggest hindrance to the budget will be housing which I was a huuuuuge fish with (but met a few expat english teachers who paid like 400/month in prague 3 so you just gotta be diligent afaik)

Can anyone recommend certain areas of Prague over the others? Areas to avoid? I guess I'm looking for the best neighborhood to be in the middle of everything if im going to be a 3month tourist.
