Re: Poland, Questions?

Hi Jekus, how is the online poker situation in Poland? From what I have read it seems it has been declared illegal but players currently face no problems for playing from there, which reminds me of how it all was in the US pre-BF...any chance anything similar could happen in PL?

I am thinking of relocation to Poland for about 10 months, specifically to Wroclaw or perhaps Krakow, any tips? Thanks.

Re: Poland, Questions?

Online poker is currently illegal as a result of recent gambling acts, but right now it is pretty much a dead law. You can play online easily and you should not be facing any troubles for that matter.
I am not sure what is the situation regarding withdrawing funds and whether it's easy or not, as I currently play abroad. Maybe someone else can chime in.
I would not recommend playing live, the taxes at casinos are absurdly big and there have recently been some infamous actions with the polish IRS equivalent invading some home games o.o
other than that, poland is a decent destination imo despite the game being technically illegal.

yeah playing onine is no problem atm, best way to withdraw are ATM's. There is some live poker in Warsaw, but i would not go there as i dont think it is safe.

is 1500-2000PLN ok to rent a 1 bedroom apartment with bills included and not too far from the city center in Wroclaw? is gumtree.pl the best place to look for it? also, do you know if there are any specific requirements for opening a bank account (like proof of employment or so)?

at this point I am more inclined to move to Wroclaw as I have only heard nothing but praise for that city, what is the standard of English amongst young people there? I was in Gdansk this summer and it was great over there, should i expect something similar? again, many thanks.

Re: Poland, Questions?

1,5-2k PLN is quite a lot for 1-bedroom apartment but it may be fine if its in good location and in high standard, i dont know whats the best place to look for apartments but i dont think that gumtree.pl is good. I would rather look for some Polish guy living there to do it for you. He will be able to get some better offer on rent (im from Gdansk so i cant help you).
i think english in young polish people is on the same lvl everywhere in Poland

1500-2000PLN shoud be ok for nice place with bills. i think gumtree works mostly for Warsaw area. Just google some sites and contact agencies and u will find sth.

About bank account: the only thing you need to open one is your ID, but im not sure that this applies to foreigners.

I know Gdansk and if you like it im sure you will love Wroclaw. There are lots of students in Wroclaw so you should have no problems to communicate in english. I think i wrote in some previous posts that most people speak basic english, but minority of them speak fluently. It is mostly well-educated people who speak well. lmk if you want to know sth more

I've got an apartment in Krakow and visit it every few years (my mom goes every few months). How can I find live games for next time I go out there?

You can use http://otodom.pl/ to check current rental prices in Poland. If you use Google Chrome or Google Translate you can translate to English to understand everything and filter to accommodate your needs (Krakow, within 5 min from center...)

Re: Poland, Questions?

Has anyone moved to PL in the last few months? I just came across this thread...i have been living in Wroclaw since May and love this place. Great nightlife, close to Prague for live, really cheap cost of living (was in Vancouver before) and also you can find super cheap flights from here to many EU cities (drungli.com) My lease runs out end of Feb and id would be interested to find preferably a MTT person to get a place with for 6-12 months. PM me if interested or if you have any questions regarding Wroclaw

The beach in your town - anything like this?

Sunrise Festival is one of the biggest Trance music events. I am a huge Trance fan myself and I was in Kolobrzeg this summer on Sunrise 2012, it was a 10th edition, so it meant to be a huge party. It took place close to the beach, but it wasn't directly at the beach like on the video you linked. I was very, very disappointed though. The organisation was bad, on the one hand, you had to buy coupons (which were poker chips! Great for fun, but hard to keep them in your pocket) and in other places you had to pay with in cash.
Also, that was my I guess 5th or 6th event overall since 2009 and it was the first time that someone started to make problems...I hope you know what I mean, guy was prob on drugs or something, but I have never faced such situation before. The reason was because David Guetta was there. He plays from playback, he can't be called a DJ. But his presence dragged thousands of ppl, who aren't that much into Trance music.

There were still some good performances though (best was Jochen Miller, Armin van Buuren good as always, Dash Berlin also ok, but the biggest surprise was Wezz Devall - he is def not as popular as all previously mentioned artists, but his pumping beats just drove me crazy, that was awesome!). On these events you can also see girls, that you would never see normally. Just loads of 11/10 show up, no s.h.1.t. man. Bunch of "buffed" and artificially tanned guys as well though. But the Kolobrzeg is a very nice town itself, I was sleeping in my friend's guesthouse in Dzwirzyno, which was few kms away from Kolobrzeg - this is a super small town, but absolutely beautiful. Reminded me my childhood and took me 10 years back.

The title says: Gambling law is inconsistent with the EU law. They're saying that making this entire law in such a short period of time was a big mistake, that's why there are so many problems with it now. Long story short: this gambling law has been done by incompetent people who had no idea what they are doing. However, lots of people play poker, make money, but no one cares - that's the most important thing ;]
