Re: Poland, Questions?

I was in Wroclaw last month and it was quality. Nightlife is great and dirt cheap alcohol. There is a bar with a red neon fat man sign outside, does the best cocktail pitchers for a great price. Everyone was friendly for the most part, especially the girls, but the guys can get a bit aggressive. I know everybody does when they are drunk but when it got to around 6am I was feeling uncomfortable at times and had to keep protecting the girl i was with from other guys.

The place itself is beautiful though. The weather was good and I recommend Jadka as a great restaurant.

Re: Poland, Questions?

How easy would it be to set up a bank account and some sort of residency document (to set up online poker.)

I have a Polish passport, but I do not have dowod osobisty or anything else and haven't lived there since I was a kid.

Re: Poland, Questions?

How much would it cost to live there(not counting food), for rent in a somewhat central place near downtown(just a one bedroom or a bedroom in a shared apartment), while going out drinking 2-3x/week?

What time does nightlife go on till in the main cities? Which cities are best for nightlife?

What months is there nice weather? Nice defined as girls wearing shorts/skirts :P.

Cool thread, thanks for making it, place definitely looks really nice.

EDIT : To elaborate on the costs part...how much pln for a good night out at bars? how about at more expensive clubs? how much pln for a 10 minute taxi.

also, is there a subway system?

No they don't Ofc they ask, but I would say that they care more about large amounts. I've heard that there are some guys who bought great flat with poker winnings, but it is rly risky. I would never do it and money laundering in not hard in Poland.

In Poland if u are prostitution on your own, u dont pay taxes. So in Poland more than 10% of people claim they earn money as an prostitution. It is hard to belive, but true. (I've seen some numbers) Read it: http://af.reuters.com/article/oddlyE...60B1LR20100112

I'm glad you enjoy it. I think Warsaw is cheaper than rest of Europe. Ofc prices are diffrent in diffrent areas, but u can hire rly nice apartment for 800-1200$ monthly.

Buying marihuana is not hard, but u have to know where to go or just look for it during parties.

I'd say that there is huge diffrence between young people in Poland and the old generation. Young people are open and more friendly, older people are mostly religious and conservative. Ofc the are lots of exceptions.

Polish is super hard to learn for foreigners, if u rly want speak good. http://claritaslux.com/blog/polish-h...anguage-learn/

Lol I didn't know it is so hard If u want to know sth more, keep asking.

You don't need dowod osobisty (Identity document) to set up a bank account. I think that with polish passport, you would have no problems it.

read previous posts, I wrote about apartments and prices. ofc cost depends how hard u want to party and where, but I'd say that nice apartament + parties + cinema etc. in Warsaw is 1500 $<..../ monthly.

Parties are all night, especially on weekends, even till 6-7 in the morning. From my experience best are Wroclaw and Warsaw. I've heard that Krakow is also nice. U have info about those cities in my previous posts

Good party in normal clubs is about 60-100$, depends how much u drink, but take my advice and be careful drinking with polish people, cos u wont belive how much alcohol some guys can drink In Warsaw and Wrocław u can have great fun in nice places for those amounts of $$ and u dont rly have to spend more than that, but if u rly want to spend lots of money u can good for example here: http://www.neworleans.pl/en/warsaw.html It is awesome place

Re: Poland, Questions?

I left Poland when I was 11 and went back couple of times to visit family. Last time I was there was in 2004. It did change a lot, in a good way of course. I remember when the airport in Warsaw was a little ****house country shack, now they actually have terminals and proper transportation.

I would definitely recommend visiting Krakow, Wroclaw, Gdansk, but you're right its not cheap, I remember blowing away about 4k in 7 days, that included driving around Poland, hotels, food and other ****.

I couldn't think of anything else for my nick, so I came up with something simple and easy to remember.

Question Re: Poland, Questions?

I'm thinking about living in a few places across central/eastern europe this year and Poland is definitely somewhere I'd consider.

Having had a brief look at apartment rental web-sites it seems that accomodation is very affordable. How easy is it for somebody to rent apartments short term, say for 6-8 weeks? And how easy is it to get by if the only language you speak fluently is English (assuming moving to a major city such as Krakow)?

Also, how likely is an apartment to already have internet installed/How easy would it be to get internet installed?

Thanks for doing this thread!

Online poker is considered illegal in Poland right now or at best a grey zone. There's a new law passing in May or June that makes it explicitly illegal.

Since you have a Polish passport you can live anywhere in EU. I would try and setup residence in a more online gambling friendly country like UK.

Re: Poland, Questions?

Nice thread! I am an norwegian living in Krakow, studying medicine and playing poker. And I have a couple of questions

1) In norway, winnings below ~2k$ is taxfree. Is there something similar in Poland?

2) I thought live cashgames were illegal?

3) Are there any tournaments(500 pln+) played anywhere in Krakow/warsaw?

Thanks

I think u would have no problem with short term rental, but prices would be a little higher then for normal period like 6 months. English is not a problem if u want to hire flat through some kind of agency, you coud have some problems if u want to do it directly. Most nice apartments have internet installed or u can have it installed in one day.

If u come to Poland, pm me when u need some help with flat rental or sth else

1) In Poland there is also amount of income, which is taxfree. Poker winnings are non-taxable, cos in theory it is illegal to play poker. If u want to play legal tournament, u will pay 25% tax on your winnings.

2) As i wrote before, they are, but nobody cares.

3) I don't know about Krakow, but there are some 1k pln events in Warsaw. pkt = PLN

you might want to clean up your stuff. new law passed a few days ago, from June 1, police will be investigating and looking for online players. All ISPs must hand over data about people that connect to gambling sites.

So not only in theory is it illegal!

Re: Poland, Questions?

Thanks for the fotos - looks clean enough.
Guesthouse - here in the U.S is Bed and Breakfast - now for this price - 13 - 15 - does that include breakfast?

Also does it have Wifi - Internet included?

Also - the beach from Sept - August - is the water not cold? When I was in Thailand - even at midnight the water was very warm - around 80F+. The question is since the water is cold - will there be people at the beach? GIRLS AT THE BEACH?

I"m a single man - so I would like to experience the nightlife - or places to meet beautiful and interesting girls. How far are the clubs from the guesthouse? Is it walking distance? Or do you offer car service also?

From what I have been reading - I would love to visit Poland. The truth is I"m a shy Asian man - almost 40 - average looking. If you have seen the movie -"40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN" that's how I would describe myself. My concern is would I have any chance at all with a Polish girl at a regular club? I know it's a little embarrassing - but I just want to be honest, and straight to the point.

I know polish reality and don't rly care about this law at all. I think it is gonna stay as i was before. Polish authorities fail in so many less sophisticated actions. Beside i think poker is at the end of the list of things they care about now
