Re: Poland, Questions?

Ohhhh I forgot: what would be the best way in your opinion to go to Bucharest ?Train ? How much does it costs ? Any general Idea would be really appreciated because I have absolutely no clue on how much I would spend to go there.

Oh btw just being curious: How much would it cost in your opinion to live there with basic expenses ? I mean, how much does a rent costs ? and food ? doesn't need to be something balla, just decent(living alone or maybe sharing with another students, I don't mind)

Do you know if colleges there has subjects taught in english for like a visiting student ?

I am asking because I am thinking of the possibility of making a few subjects in english in one of this places: Poland/Czech republic(prague)/Estonia(Tallinn/Tartu). Which city in Poland would you recomend in case if I decide to go there ? I would love to have a review from you!

Just this days I closed a semi-route which obviously Includes Poland. Initially I was planning to visit Warsaw, Wroclaw and Krakow but now you mentioned this beach place I am willing to go there too! What do you think of these places ? 20-25 days is enough ?

You said that there are some cash games running there: what limit would it be in euros ?

hey, where are u from? i think 20-25 day is a lot to see everything in Poland. Warsaw, Kraków and Wroclaw are must-see places.

Krakow is one of the most beatiful cities with lots of tourists visiting it. For centuries Krakow was the capital of Poland, so it has rly rich history and great climate. Nowadays it connects tradition with modernity. There are lots of info about Krakow: http://www.krakow.pl/en/

Wroclaw is the best place to go, when u like to party a lot. It is known for its beautiful Old City full of pubs and discos. I lived there for 3 years and absolutely love the place. U have to see also Botanical garden, biggest zoo in Poland and Ostrow Tumski with amazing climate. Lots of info is here: http://www.wroclaw.pl/index,1.dhtml

Warsaw has a little bit hectic atmosphere and is rly crowded place. There are lots of places to see. In my opinion u have to see great city park Lazienki. Additionaly if you’re looking for all-night parties and great clubs you wont get dissapointed. More Info: http://www.um.warszawa.pl/en

Beside those 3 place there lots more to see, especially if you are into nature. Polish mountains are good choice (Zakopane, Karpacz etc) and also an area in northeastern Poland famous for its 2,000 lakes, called Masuria. U will find lots of useful info here: http://www.poland.pl/ . I will be also happy, if u come to Wladyslawowo

Most games in Warsaw are 1/2 PLN with straddle 5 (0,25e/0,5e/ 1,25e) and 5/5 with straddle 10 (1,25/1,25/ 2,5e). They are super soft, and a little bigger than normal: at 1/2 normally u open like 10-12 with stradlle about 20. Most games are Holdem, plo and dealer choice (mostly 5 cards omaha pot limit). There is no rake, but u pay 10 pln/ hour to play. I have heard also about bigger games in Krakow like Holdem 25/50pln with stradlle 100 (6/23/25e).

Ask if u want to know sth more

Imo best choice is plane and it is not even close. You gonna save your time and nervs, cos trains in Poland rly sux. Max cost is 220 euro , but it would be a lot cheaper if u choose cheap flights.

It is rly hard to say, cos prices are a lot diffrent in diffrent places. Warsaw is the most expensive, than Krakow and Wroclaw. In warsaw u can rent nice modern flat for about 2k pln (500euro) monthly, room with other students is about 500-600pln monthly. Food is not expensive. i would say that for basic expenses u need at least 1k pln (decent living) .

Of course they have, there are lots of foreign in Warsaw, Wroclaw and Krakow. I would reccomend only those 3 places.

I "study" finance at The Warsaw School of Economics and i know u can study everything in English in there. Info: http://www.sgh.waw.pl/index_en.html

General info about Warsaw: http://www.um.warszawa.pl/en/articles/study-warsaw

Most polish unis offer subjects in english, dont know what you are interested in. You have to look at specific ones.

Hope that would help.

Re: Poland, Questions?

Thansk a lot for helping me, Jekus! Actually when I was referring to live with other students/other poker players I meant not to share a room, I REALLY need privacy basically for 2 reasons:

1) I'm a poker pro so sharing the room is ont an option, I need to grind

2) Having your own room it's better for sexy time :P

Anyway I Usually grind some HU as well and I would like to have a few infos about your iron man training, if you don't mind(I only ran a half marathon a few years ago but I suck at swimming and bike) so I would like to exchange a few ideas and ofc we should meet for a few beers there in the city that I forgot the name which has a lake and etc haha ^^

I am sending you a PM!

Re: Poland, Questions?

do poker players in poland generally pay taxes on their online poker winnings? since it is illegal, i figure not, but does the bank or government ever ask where the money comes from? or do they just not care if it is not a huge amount?

Re: Poland, Questions?

I'm in Berlin currently. Which place should I visit in Poland which is a short train ride away? Maybe a day trip, 2 hour train ride sort of thing. Warsaw looks like it's 5 hours away so that's kinda far.

Re: Poland, Questions?

Wow, Poland really seems interesting that animated video was amazing. What is housing in Warsaw compared to the rest of Europe? Can I buy marijuana easily? How open/friendly are poles? If you smiled at someone on the street would they smile back? Is polish a hard language to learn?

Re: Poland, Questions?

I was in Wroclaw last month and it was quality. Nightlife is great and dirt cheap alcohol. There is a bar with a red neon fat man sign outside, does the best cocktail pitchers for a great price. Everyone was friendly for the most part, especially the girls, but the guys can get a bit aggressive. I know everybody does when they are drunk but when it got to around 6am I was feeling uncomfortable at times and had to keep protecting the girl i was with from other guys.

The place itself is beautiful though. The weather was good and I recommend Jadka as a great restaurant.

Re: Poland, Questions?

How much would it cost to live there(not counting food), for rent in a somewhat central place near downtown(just a one bedroom or a bedroom in a shared apartment), while going out drinking 2-3x/week?

What time does nightlife go on till in the main cities? Which cities are best for nightlife?

What months is there nice weather? Nice defined as girls wearing shorts/skirts :P.

Cool thread, thanks for making it, place definitely looks really nice.

EDIT : To elaborate on the costs part...how much pln for a good night out at bars? how about at more expensive clubs? how much pln for a 10 minute taxi.

also, is there a subway system?

No they don't Ofc they ask, but I would say that they care more about large amounts. I've heard that there are some guys who bought great flat with poker winnings, but it is rly risky. I would never do it and money laundering in not hard in Poland.

In Poland if u are prostitution on your own, u dont pay taxes. So in Poland more than 10% of people claim they earn money as an prostitution. It is hard to belive, but true. (I've seen some numbers) Read it: http://af.reuters.com/article/oddlyE...60B1LR20100112
