moving to miraflores next week!.......going to get a six month when im out there.....definitely want to visit ecuador and colombia when i'm down there after i get settled and a little use to the language......couch for couch fellow grinders?.....haha i'm not picky.....first time in south america so I'm thinking I'm in for a good time......

cant wait for the lsop and lapt....

cant wait to open pokerstars and NOT get a message reminding me i'm not allowed to play there

all ive heard in lima is its 5 percent uncapped everywhere and that's just the way it is....value is in the tournaments around town which usually are capped at ten percent entry fee or less

ill post next weekend as to the situation out there.......ill try to figure out the lapt cash games rake, too..........i plan on getting an apartment right in the middle of the three casinos and going nocturnal for a week or two to figure out whats up.....(games run all night only at night).......

if you never hear from me again it just means it's too juicy!!!

really looking forward to Peru/Lima!

fwiw worth my friend marty had this to say about cash games in lima:

Quote:

the biggest cash games we found at atlantic city were a joke. they had 5/10 USD but I guess it only ran on certain nights. the games we ended up playing were every small. but they never switched decks, cards were marked/bent. they had a lot of backwards rules. there was open collusion at the table. and when i tried to leave, they told me i couldnt get up if i was up money in the first 30min. so i shoved the rest in, lost and left. im 100% sure I won't be playing cash games unless they're being ran or facilitated by pokerstars people who actually know what theyre doing. they also overrake for bonuses, high hands, bad beats, etc. I honestly had no idea how much money they take out of the pots. Pretty sure my roommate won a 500 soles bonus for having quads and still ended up losing money. Just no way the rake is beatable with all the money they take out of the pot, how slow it goes, the open collusion at the table. cash games are certainly not on the top of my list, and I'd advise anyone I meet not to play them in Peru either until they get their **** together. I'd say this about many places in the united states as well.

my roommate is more of a cash game player, and he can attest to how "soft" the games are. but even he knows they're not worth playing under the state they were in last year
maybe game full of tourists could be better instead of crazy colluding locals?

thanks for the heads up.....its crazy that they can basically hold you hostage at a table but that seems to be the case......truthfully i don't know how i'd react in a situation where i know im being cheated and told i cant leave the game........just sit there and auto fold glaring daggers the best method?

hopefully things are changing for the better and maybe theyll clean up their act at least around tourney times......puts added pressure on table selection i guess, no just jumping in on new games blind maybe.......just have to pinpoint the shadeballs and avoid them like the plague

......and there's always stars!!!

Are any Americans going to be in Lima for the LSOP this year? I'll be there the 20th-26th.

Also, I talked to the poker room manager in Lima. At first she told me that the LSOP people were going to run separate cash games this year with lower rake, but then she got back to me and said the Atlantic City Casino was going to run it and they DO rake based on % only. Hope this helps.

got into lima late thursday night.....ended up crashing hard until friday afternoon when i did a walk about around miraflores

beautiful area....

now to the poker.....played at atlantic city last night.......big satellite into the tourney but i opted for 5/10 soles game (about a 2/4 us game)

started six handed at 830 and i left at 1030 and it was eight handed when they stopped serving alcohol....apparently with the tourney the gave away too much and wouldnt serve anymore...weak.......

players just throwing checks around......300 dollar bluffs and whatnot.....crazy action......i ended up down 5 bucks american

made my way to the marriot at 1100....fifth on the list for 5/5 sol (about 2dollar/ 2dollar)....they ended up opening up a new game

this was the fourth or fifth table....the marriot gets a lot of tables but i saw the action here was somewhat tighter.....

i wasnt keeping track of the rake exactly but it is high....i was trying not to notice...ha ha

left down about 100 soles.....40 bucks...after a couple of hourss....

free food tableside here which was great (tip accordingly) and drinks flowed faster than ac and the cocktail waitresses and women working at the joint in general were pretty attractive in my opinion.....

probably going over to the marriot tonight again...cash games start at 8pm any 2 plus 2 ers want to meet up is cool with me .

oh and one more thing if you miss a blind they just take it out of your stack....no sitting out here...just time bathroom breaks, etc.

anything else just ask!

did not notice any collusion though small sample size.....lots of players on first name basis with eachother it seems.....at the 5/10 soles game at the ac one player greeted every one else like he knew them very well so take that as you will

also it is HUMID here...im not overweight by any means but i find myself sweating almost everywhere i go...

also went to fiesta to check out the room....not bad...alright bar inside....everyone was playing a variation of bingo...atrium like setup was pretty cool in my opinion.....

just thought i'd give an update on the live poker situation here in lima.......

the majestic game (5/5 sol) from what i've seen is almost entirely the same core of people each and every time i've shown up

though i have nothing to prove my accusations i do have my gut and my gut is telling me that there are individuals at these table who have been working against me and other tourists who come into the game

i notice this with their betting and calling patterns and the general talking under their breath while we are in a hand together

long story short i believe the games at the majestic are not to be played by tourists

i have not yet encountered a live game at the fiesta but these are made up of locals also so i would expect more of the same if a cash game did get started up there

on to atlantic city

for about four straight nights i had been playing in the 5/10 nl sol game here (about 2us/4us) and happened upon the game last night and found two open tables

i sat at one table with my 500 soles....waited for the big blind and after a few hand of waiting was told i had to get up as a player who had just busted was ready to come back....no big deal i moved to the next table

i place my checks on the new table and run to the bathroom.......as i come back i am told by a player at the table ( a regular i have played with a few times before) that 1000 soles is the minimum........i tell him that all week i have been buying in 500 soles and that it shouldnt be a problem....

he proceeds to tell me that 500 soles at the start of the game is okay for a buy in but not once the game gets going.....i correct him on this fact as i have been buying in 500 soles around 12am/1am the whole week (games start at about 7/8 pm and go until 6am) in games that had obviously been going for a few hours......he then quickly snapped at me 'we as a table have decided that YOU have to buy in 1000 soles'......because of all the shady things i have seen at the tables in this town the past week I collected my checks and threw them in my pocket and left the room........i'm not going to sit with anything more than the minimum at a table where i can not be sure i am getting a fair shake....

i don't usually short stack......and nor do i want to but i just have an aversion to putting more money than i have to on a table at a game where i am not sure it is on the up and up

so basically not to get racial but to just let you know what i have expereinced you will be looked at as a mark if you are white and don't speak spanish in these games

oh and before i forget at the majestic the other day there were chopped pots about every third round and when it came to me on the small blind (5/5 sol game) i gave the chop motion...verbally said 'chop?' as i looked at the player in the big blind...he gave a slight nod and i mucked my hand and took my 5 sol back.....

i was then told by the dealer to give my 5 sol to the big blind player as i had mucked my hand.......the bb player laughed and took the money....it's situations like these that have made it impossible for me to play live poker in this town as i was barely able to control my cool here......i know its $1.90 american but just the prinicpal of it especially with the precedent set made me very jaded to what is going on here

lucky for me the rest of the town is beautiful....the women are 100 times more friendlier than the men.....and i found a new place which i move into next week and ill be able to grind online as i had hoped

anything else you want to know just ask

i don't know what keeps coming out when you stop eating
Poker Players in Lima, Peru? Quote
05-27-2013 , 03:18 AM
hahahah....well what are you eating? (btw I'm not a doctor but I don't think that to just 'stop eating' is a very wise decision. Although fasting can heal and detoxify the body, when ur ****ting your brains out you are losing alot of fluids, salts, electrolytes, etc - which need to be replaced. Drinking normal water does not replace all of these essential nutrients - google Oral Rehydration)

your stomach may not be used to the shellfish down there yet if you're eating lots of ceviche, uncooked foods, unpasteurized milk products, or just at unsanitary street food vendors or something (by no means skip street food, but pay attention to cleanliness). I've also heard to not shower with your mouth open in guatemala but that seems absurd - I try to ingest a little of the water in almost any country I go to to acclimatize your stomach to the new bacteria.

I get sick when I go back to the USA now as well - just a matter of what bacterias your body/stomach is used to (and probably the chemical laced crap that's almost impossible to avoid in amurica)

anyways be sure to stay hydrated and make sure you are replenishing your salt levels as well. anyways diarhhreahahahaha shouldn't last more than 3-4 days - if it does they say to talk to a doc. ...Sooo you're either over the hump or gonna drop dead tomorrow! good luck with that!

(was gonna PM but could be useful for others?) (I use parentheses alot)

wow cantrunworse sounds like you are not having the greatest time in the live rooms

I did what you are doing and you have to manage the regs. Don't fight back verbally or otherwise. If you keep your head down you'll eventually get them off your back. If two older players want to check it down, let it go. It isn't that you are white -- I've seen them treat white people nicely and seen them treat white people poorly.

Yeah i'm going to stay away from the live games...figure i might get myself into trouble calling out all the shenanigans i was seeing

The first week I was here I threw caution to the wind and ate just about everything and it didnt affect me at all....then bam all at once for two days i couldnt be more than 10 feet away from the toliet

Everyone keeps telling me about the bacteria thing and like boliver said its just about getting your body use to it....i had been eating organic for a while before i came so figured i was just super immune but it was not the case

Feeling better now

Got hooked up on stars down here by just sending a scan of my lease and passport....

you are allowed to deposit 350 a day max 1500 a week (then you can get limits raised) with this thing called 'pago efectivo' down here

you go to the stars cashier enter the amount you want and then you print out a voucher and bring it to one of the four major banks here or their branches (theyre basically everywhere)

you give them us bills and its on your account before you get home

sucks that you can only put 350 on per 24 hours but there are no fees...... so yesterday today tommorow....etc......i wake up.....get a voucher on stars (which is sent to my email)....go to the internet cafe to print it...then go to the bank to deposit

been grinding everything from 5 dollar rebuys to 50 dollar mtts with my miniroll since noon today and im on my last one....

i remember why i love/hate pokerstars........

got a mini apartment for 510 dollars all utilities included three blocks from the park kennedy (where all the action is at) in a clean safe area...i walk around at 2, 3 am and never had a problem nor think i should

the internet hasnt cut out on my once....but its a line not wifi but i dont mind as long as it works

its like a three story building where the family lives on the first floor then the second and third have been converted into rooms with ensuite bathrooms...i think 3 or 4 to a floor....i havent even walked up to the third floor yet

.....i want to though because i smell 'bananas' roasting all the time from there and i've only partied once since ive been here......im not sure if its positive ev to knock on their door yet

Just saw this thread. I am from Venezuela but my parents recently moved here to Lima, so Im spending a lot of time here.

Pretty crazy the live poker situation. There is a high stakes peruvian reg (locoo20), who wrote in his blog (http://locoo20.blogspot.com) that there was a f*** big collusion against him, where the dealer and some players colluded in a 38k$ pot against him. Then he got his money back, but still pretty shocking. Not sure where it was. Im surprised there is collusion or whatever at atlantic, I have gone there to swap pokerstars for cash (I think they still do this btw), and managers always treated very nice and seemed A+. I dont play much live, but I did play there like 2 years ago, there were a lot of regs but they didnt seem to collude though.

Anyway, I will be here for 2 more weeks, got a lot of free time. If anyone needs some kind of help or just wanna meet up for some drinks just let know!

if anyone could confirm the swapping pokerstars for cash in Lima that would be a huge help. Or if there are these services available in Lima (Colombia has 3-4 trusted guys that will swap to and from most sites, not sure if that's the norm in big latin cities)

i checked on that website and cant find any info on cashing out stars money but im in the midst of super-run-bad so cashing out isn't really a concern for me right now..........but hopefully someone will see these posts and be able to help those out in the future

got a belly button infection down here.....first one i've had since i was about seven years old (im 30) and from what i'm told it could be the water i've been bathing in.....when i shower i do get in my belly button a bit to wash it and wasn't even thinking about the bacteria and such but it makes sense......

been washing it out with bottled water and a solution then drying it and its about 90 percent better after a few days

like poker you gotta take the good with the bad

Upper right is a banner that is constantly changing. One of them says "Pokerstars.com Cajero Oficial". There is the info of the guy that does it. You can call him, and he swaps it in the atlantic casino (at least a few months ago he did it).

just emailed him tonight. I believe he's charging a 1% vig although that sounds extremely low. but it does seem like he's still available for pokerstars cashouts anytime and during LAPT as well. helps me out alot since I rely on swaps and xfers to cashout, so this is great.

Also doing a 4 day machu picchu hike after the event, let me know if anyone is interested for a few nights party in cuzco and then a long hike to some Incan ruins!

FYI xferred my stars dollars for cash DOLLARS with alvarro last night (the cajero mentioned above). Casino has the best exchange rate to turn those dollars into soles, but then you have to play for at least an hour if you do that...which seems ******ed. found a guy on the street to xfer me in any amount for only .02 soles less than what the casino offered...so seems to be a great way to cashout if anyone needs in Lima.

stand up guy and easy transfer with Alvarro, I would for sure recommend to anyone that needs it. 1% vig confirmed

what are you guys doing for backup internet in Peru? I hear Claro is better than movistar for the USB modem internet, but I need a utility bill and to sign up for 6 months prepaid to be able to do this. seems sketchy, as I already have a high quality 4g movistar USB modem that unblocked (works in all S. America)...but they wont sell me a SIM card. gaaaddamn skecthy latinos. any advice WRT backup internet would be highly appreciated

and yeah cash games in Lima just seem like the nut worst idea ever. they have VIP rooms where collusion has happened and outsiders aren't allowed to play, hear about tons of collusion between all the players, hear about spite collusion for gringos or internet grinders (aka people good at poker) because the table doesn't want a new guy to come in and win. doubt i will ever play cash games in lima, which is a shame because there is decent action.
