Poker house in Hua-Hin, Thailand. Players needed

Hello. Thanks for visiting this thread

I am looking for 2-3 (maybe 4) poker players to rent a house in Hua-Hin for 2-3 months from mid/late February. After that I'm gonna have a trip over Australia - New Zealand - Peru/Argentina - Europe (it's a different story, probably I'll start another thread about it)

Some info/cliffs about Hua-Hin:
1. one of the most prestigious places in thailand
2. good location; located 220km from bangkok to south. a few hours to chomporn -> koh tao/samui within 4-5 hours via lomrayah highspeed ferry
3. the city itself stands along the beach of approx. 10km long
4. its prohibited to build low-cost condos and living here is more expensive then pattaya, so there are not a lot of russians/indians/hippies etc.
5. there are no go-go bars/other similar specific places here (but its still possible to get sex for monies, but its not an option for true grinders obv)
6. people here are more friendly then at samui or in pattaya (where I lived for about 8 months in total). [its not only my own perception]
7. traffic is better then in bkk/ptt/samui even though its a city
8. girls are probably the most beautiful then anywhere else in thailand.
9. you can choose from a lot of things to do here:
- kite-surfing: im not sure, but i suppose its possible to kitesurf during the whole year
- golf: about 11-13 fields in and around hua-hin.
- wake-boarding: they either already finished constructing a base or it will be ready soon
- dining: all the major can be found here: sizzler, fuji, 2 mk restaurants, new zealand natural, etc
- bowling, cinema complex.
- bicycle tours
- waterfalls tours, etc
- tennis, badminton
10. internet connection here is solid. possible to choose from 3 provides: cat, tot, 3bb. also the center of the city is covered by 3g (true, ais, 3bb providers)

Also, some disadvantages:
- condos are expensive. the price for 1bedroom condo starts from 25k baht
- renting a motobike is also kinda expensive. ~3.5k for click, ~11k for psx (yeap, completely dumb 'cos its much easier and cheaper to buy one for about 75-77 and then sell it after a few months. on samui i paid 5k per month for psx).
- taxis/tuktuks are more expensive than in bkk, but less expensive then on samui island.

Villas rentals are close to islands price range. Its possible to get a nice villa for 2-3k.
Some real estate websites to look through:
www.2nd-home.com/Criteria.php?TypeID=1
http://www.roombyroom-thailand.com/
http://www.propertyhuahin.net/property.php?type=H&for=R

A few words about myself.. I play poker for about 3.5 years now. Mainly limit holdem (from 1020 to 50100, mostly 1530 2040 3060). I also play some other limit games like omaha/7stud.
I came from russia, last 3 years I spent overseas: almost a year in total in Sydney/Australia, about 2 years here in Thailand (1.5 month at koh chang, 1.5 month at pattaya, 7 months at koh samui, more than one year here in huahin).
I have a girlfriend here, but she works every ****** day (some real estate agency, sad thing that they dont offer rentals ), so Im kinda stuck alone without any options of having some fun =\.
Professional civilization5 playa here rofl.
I also play badminton occasionally, I tried to play golf, took 8hours kitesurfing course, but its kinda boring to do it alone without any community/friends.

Any questions are always welcome
You can contact me via skype ec lofhea (no space)
I doubt that i will be able to reply you if you send me pm here (it should be something like 20 msgs if im not mistaken).
Sure, you can leave a message in this thread as well

p.s is it 2+2 standard joke?

I forgot to mention that if you would like staying here you can apply for student visa and after obtaining it you dont need to move anyway or report to immigration (they do it by themselves)
Also its probable that I will be able to help you with some deals in different rooms (russian affiliate market is like a mess (everyone is trying to get more players but providing better %'s) so its possible to catch up with really good deals sometimes.

I was just chatting yesterday with a friend of mine, about how Hua Hin is probably one of the better places to move to in Thailand, gonna stay in Phuket though for now.

seems like it still remains "undiscovered"

I meant distances/average speed. While I was living there on samui I heard that someone ran into something/crushed/fell off bike almost every week.
it seems less risky to drive a bike here. (ofc it always depends on your style/awareness etc)

Re: Poker house in Hua-Hin, Thailand. Players needed

I just spent about 8 months in Hua Hin and it is probably the last place in Thailand I'd recommend someone live. There's nothing glaringly wrong with the place but everywhere else I've traveled and heard about has been much better. You'd probably like it if you've never been to Thailand but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except maybe for a weekend visit. I'm not trying to be a dick but I feel obligated to let people hear the other side if they're thinking about spending a large amount of time there.

I'm not sure what this means. No one will be impressed by the fact you live in Hua Hin.

I take the "glass half empty" view that it's hours away from anything interesting. Only 3 hours in a cramped minivan to get to Bangkok!
Quote:
3. the city itself stands along the beach of approx. 10km long
The beach really sucks in comparison to almost any other beach I've been to. I've stated this in previous posts, I'm not just in a bad mood or something.

There is loads of low-cost housing. My friend rents a 2 bedroom house in a residential neighborhood for 4,500 baht/month 10 minutes from downtown. I stayed in a perfectly nice apartment for ~7k including bills.

There are no go-gos but there are two entire streets of beer bars with girls calling out to you and grabbing you. The sex industry is not exactly hidden.

Hua Hin is a tourist town so you have touts everywhere. People get nicer the further away you go, but I still wouldn't classify them as "friendly."

That's not really a fair comparison, HH is much smaller.
Quote:

There are a lot of really hot scandi girls around. As far as random people walking down the street, the Thais are less attractive than anywhere I've been in Thailand. Working girls...even worse. Going into your average beer bar is like wandering onto the set of Troll 2. I'm not trolling here, I'm positive I've talked about this in a previous post. Try searching "Hua Hin" "ugly as ****"
Quote:

True, you can do all those things (muay thai is another one), but HH is pretty small and there's a good chance you'll get bored. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're really into golf or scandinavians.

It's close to 2-2.5 hours actually. Minibus drivers drive like crazy.

Nongkae (Kao Takiab) beach is quite good. Another opportunity is to go to Koh Talu (from huahin its 40 minutes or something). As for me I would prefer to rent a house with a pool rather than go to the beach.

I dont understand what are you trying to say. That's true that it's possible to rent a townhouse or to stay in some random guesthouse and pay like 10k or less. But there are no huge condominiums like "view talay" in pattaya with hundreds of studios.

You've already compared a lot of things above. And again I dont get your point. I'm telling that driving a motobike here seems to be safer then in ptt/bkk. And you are telling me that Hua-Hin is much smaller. Sounds like a trolling for me.

Hmm, it sounds strange but seems like we lived in different places

Comparing with ptt and samui thai people here are much much nicer and friendly.

Re: Poker house in Hua-Hin, Thailand. Players needed

I think the "prestigious" claim is because it is supposedly the historical vacation spot for the king and royal family. They do have that big compound there and the claim is probably true, but otherwise Hua Hin looks pretty much like every other city in Thailand. There are more Thai tourists there coming down from BKK, but I didn't notice anything prestigious about the place.

I was neither overwhelmingly impressed or overwhelmingly disappointed with the place. It's just... there. For 2-3 months, it doesn't really matter.

I agree 100% with WhoIam but like I said, Hua Hin is neither spectacular nor dingy. It is neither a spectacular city (BKK), nor spectacularly cheap city (CM), nor spectacular beach area (Phuket,Samui), nor a whoretown (Pattaya). It's an inbetween place that has a little of everything but shines at nothing.

The King didn't vacation there his primary residence was there for much of his life. For that reason it is held in very high esteem with Thai's and the police don't tolerate a lot of things they do in other cities.

As for you not seeing anything 'prestigious', you just didn't know where to go. There are a bunch of amazing 5 star resorts there. Far higher concentration of them per capita than anywhere in Thailand. Also numerous luxury condo and villa developments. The reason for this is because its the favored weekend vacation spot/residence of hi-so Bangkok Thai's.

That said, it is Thailand, so 'prestigious' is relative. It obviously isn't Malibu.

Last time I was there I did find a little strip of them in some back alley next to the Hilton Cheesy beer bars not gogos, but given it's hua hin I was shocked to even see those.

Re: Poker house in Hua-Hin, Thailand. Players needed

I know there are several high end resorts _outside_ Hua Hin in secluded areas you probably don't know and will never find and they won't let you in unless you fancy paying $500USD/night. That's how eco and high end resorts operate... people generally stay in to enjoy the amenities.

Their presence has little if any influence on Hua Hin city life. The city itself looks as ordinary as any Thai city. Heck, even the beach strip restaurants - supposedly the draw of Hua Hin - look more run down and dingy than Pattaya offerings.

Anyway, if you want to sell Hua Hin to people, post some pics of that exemplify why you like this city in particular.
