Hey everyone! I'm going to be living in Saigon for a bit and was thinking of playing some online poker while I'm here. I'll probably just open an account on pokerstars. I'm assuming they'll ask for proof of residency, which shouldn't be a problem. What is the best way to go about depositing?

the best way is to buy Skrill, Neteller or Pst from others

I really recommend you to buy a 3G Key as back up if your a playing MTTs- connection can be sometimes very unstable.

There are a bunch of coffee shops like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf that are open 24h and have stable wifi.

Also possibly meet up for beers or dinner on occasion.

About myself, I'm an online limit pro from the US that moved here in January of this year after a year+ living in Buenos Aires.

My specific questions - what are the chances of successfully receiving checks by mail or courier here?

Who do you bank with? Those of you that have received transfers from poker sites to a bank in Vietnam, are there any problems? Does the bank/government require to show you a work contract or where the funds are coming from? Are transfers subject to Vietnamese tax?

I opened a bank account with ANZ with just my passport. I tried HSBC at first and they told me I need a Vietnamese ID card which I don't have. HSBC also had an $8000US limit on how much I could have in my account at anytime and told me I'd need to show a work contract for some types of deposits/transfers.

ANZ told me I there were no limits on the amount of money I could have in my account. And they didn't mention the need to show a work contract (which doesn't mean they won't be required at some point).

For those of you not doing money transfers, how are you getting your money here?

Also, it looks like my bank account which is in US dollars is of no use as it looks like the poker sites require transfers to bank accounts here be in Euros. So, it looks like I'm going to have to close my US dollar account and open a Euro account and a VND account.

I haven't played since April 15th. Stars has been extremely difficult, unreasonable, illogical and incompetent in getting my mailing address changed - but I'm praying I might get final approval this week and can hopefully start working again.
Hi Sl4v3,
Im also from the states and will spend few months in hcmc later this year. I would like to be able to play on Pokerstars while in HCMC.

Can you give me a quick summary on how this is done? local bk accts? neteller, skrills? wire or ACH transfers? any advice would be great.

If you are still in hcmc, beers on me, cheers!!!

PS - i am new to 2+2, how the hell can i PM you??

Anyone live in Nha Trang? How is it as a beach town compared to other beaches in Vietnam? Initial research has us leaning towards there but I see some in here prefer Da Nang so perhaps that could be an option too.

Mostly just looking for nice accommodations (budget ~$2000 for 3 br) with stable internet (for grinding) in a safe beach town with a good food and party atmosphere.

This is all very preliminary but 2 buddies and I have been living in Costa Rica for 5+ years and are looking for a change of pace while still living on a beach. Nha Trang stood out after initial research but open to other places based on others advice.

Just so you know, a new poker club is opening soon in Da Nang - the coastal city (disclaimer: I'm one of the shareholders).

Check it out here:

I'm sure we have one of the best view among all the poker rooms in Asia .

My experience seems to be Viet girls are more shy than Thai.

Anyone have PokerStars they're willing to trade for Vietnamese currency or USD? Can meet in person for exchange. PM me, thanks.

Any good recommendation for serviced apartment in HCMC?
Budget around 500 usd per month. Only 2 important factors are:
- quiet by daytime
- high speed internet (stable, ideally adsl)

The poker table in Hanoi Hotel Casino has been removed. You can play now in some Poker Clubs but it's tournament only with a membership required. Rake is usually high. The biggest one in Hanoi should be Win Poker Club but I haven't visited it.

Nha Trang has a place where you can play Cash Games in a casino. ($1/$2 usually but sometimes a VIP Game $5/$10). Ho Chi Minh City will also host the kickoff event of the Asian Poker Tour: http://somuchpoker.com/asian-poker-t...18-in-vietnam/

How frequent are power outages in VN / Nha Trang? I mean, if I decided to bring my desktop pc there would UPS be necessary to grind?
online pros living in Vietnam thread Quote

No idea for Nha Trang but in Da Nang about 1 power outage every two months

Nha trang has outages, depending on the season. When its really hot and busy for sure you will get 1 a day. So yea bring your ups, but you should always have one in Asia.. Nha trang is nice for 1 month after that you will be tired of that place for sure. Only nice place is sailing club and the cinema besides that there is not much else to do lol.

But if you want to focus on grinding, gym and beach its a great place and cheap.

You can get a 1 year visa (DN), multiple entries, paid mine 250 USD + 135 USD for the stamp at airport. 6 months multiple entries possible too.

If anyone needs help with anything feel free to ask and I might be able to help. It can be anything either related to poker, the city, the country, food, visas, wtv you guys might need.

It's an amazing country. We can also go for a beer! cheers and enjoy your traveling
