Doing more research, I have found that it is indeed the Cambodia Visa. Read it only cost 20 bucks also but all sites I have seen adds a 5 dollar processing charge while I read reports others have got it ahead of time for only 20 usd. I like to save 5 bucks if its not much hassle. Anyone point me in the right direction. Thank you. I will be taking the bus.

no clue what happens with the bus, when you fly in its $20 at the airport (or $25 if you want business visa that will allow you to stay long term)

if i were you (and no one here with actual experience gives you better advice) id take the gamble and show up with no visa and hope that its the same $20 charge at the border that it is at the airport

fwiw "pontoon" is supposedly the best club in phnom penh, also heard "sharkeys" and "lone star salloon" are places worth checking out

but thats just hearsay i havent spent time there

its $20 on border as well. they often try and dupe you into buying an 'express' visa for more which doesnt really exist

So I found a legitish camera shop with what I wanted, just jammed it through on the Thai debit+ card instead of paying cash and was just going to eat the 3% fee they apparently were going to charge.

Somehow, even including the 3% fee I got a pretty sickening exchange rate and actually ended up paying less than what the XE.com rate not including 3% vig should have been.

I should have been charged the equivalent of 23,395 baht +3% Visa Vig= 24096 baht

The transaction is showing on my account as 22.9k baht (for gear that sells for 31k in Phuket+the free memory card and lens caps I got, or 25k back home) o_0

Split between Canon 1000d and 60d, generally the night shots were with 50mm f1.8 lens and day shots with Tamron 18-200.

So I concluded my research for going to Phnom Penh from HCMC for one day. Posting maybe for others to use/see and for any suggestions any might have. I am traveling with a companion so discos and such arnt much of interest unless its a must see/visit.

Good bus companies for the trip-
Sinh Tourist, Sorya Transportation, Sapaco Tourist, Kumho E&C - 10usd 6 hrs

average tuk tuk prices 1.5-2.00

If any one can recommend decent low cost hotel. I just want it to be clean and not too old. If not, Ill just go to the below street as I've read it has a lot of bargain and friendly staff.
hotels - Street 258, nearby Tonle Sap river - 8-12 usd fan/ac

Usd is widely used but always good to know
1usd = 4,000 KHR riel
52,000 vnd = 10,000 riel

Phnom Penh

Unfortuantly for me, due to the kings memorial, the palace and pagoda is closed. I dont have much interest in the killing fields, museums and other popular attractions so I am at a lost on what to do now. Suggestions appreciated.
sightseeing - Royal Palace/Silver pagoda, Central Market [Phsar Thmei, which means New Market) Corner Street 67 & Street 136]
Vatana (pronounced wa-ta-na) and his contact details are vatanapaul@yahoo.co.uk and 011702024 -$4/hour all day tuk tuk 20usd

? Lucky Supermarket (Street 274) and Bayon Supermarket (133 – 135 Monivong)

Below is a list of eateries that are not costly and supposed to be really good. Also found a viet place just in case. 8-10 usd range

Blue Dolphin - decent cheap food, western and Khmer
190, Street 172, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Karma Restaurant & Bar - fish amok
273c Sisowath Quay | (The Riverside), Phnom Penh n/a, Cambodia
+8551289788841

Mike's Burger House-best burger in PP
Russian Blvd, Tuol Kork | Sokimex Gas Station, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Limoncello Pizzeria & Restaurant
81 Sisowath, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The Blue Pumpkin - ice cream/pastries
245 Sisowath Quay, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
+855 (0) 23 998 153

Pram pizza 5 usd -delivery
067 890 005 or 016 435 126
(go down Street 130 from the riverside; it will be on your right before you hit Central Market)

Freebird Bar & Grill -deliver big menu buritoes/burgers
#69, Street 240, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
+855 23 224712

Magnolia Vietnamese Restaurant
55 Pasteur Corner | Street 242, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Can anyone tell me if its possible to break hundreds easy at gold shops/resturants as I wouldnt want to give a hundred to some place and get cheated. I will be bringing as much low denominations I can but its limited.

Also does anyone know if there is some limit on liqueur/smokes and other things we are allowed to bring into VN?

That indoor pool is hella sweet. What is your stance on drug use at the party?

i split $50s no problem at pubs etc. not sure about $100s but i imagine you will find somewhere to split them. as for limits on smokes/alcohol, not sure about limits etc but if you are going by bus you can basically take whatever you want as there is no way your bag will be checked

Not sure if they will do it, but u can probably ask a moneychanger to break your $100 into 5 $20 or whatever. The $100 are desirable for them, they give a better exchange rate for $100/$50 than $20 and lower (not sure about Vietnam, but true in a ton of SEA countries).

Anybody know how or where I can acquire a nice felt poker table in Ho Chi Minh? Or perhaps somewhere to have one made for me?

I would think it would be easily possible since they make pool tables here. just find one and draw up some plans.

If you go this route. Include all trivial details no matter how small because its VN and they prob never seen a poker table or touched one before. Some of the cheap pool tables is just felt over a hard surface so make sure you include some hard cushion. I would just find it myself and tell them to use it.

Last night before the game I was at catwalk meeting someone for drinks. They redid the whole place and actually have a pool table, and it's a bar table. It's the first bar table I've seen in VN and a bartable may be small enough to fit in some apartments. I'll ask the manager over there where they got it.

Also a friend of mine opened a bar not too long ago and wanted to put an english 8 ball table in. Not a big fan of that game but anyways he ended up having it made and it's in there now. I can ask him as well.

Edit lmao, thought you said pool table. But yea def can get one made.
