I'm really curious about Jakarta and bali, I'm planning to try bali somewhat soon but it's supposedly a high terrorist threat and most governments say to not go.

Make sure to do some research on hotels when you go to vietnam, it's illegal for a Vietnamese woman to sleep with a foreigner and a lot of hotels actually follow the rule, girls will not be allowed into your room at night.

Surely there are foreign men walking around the streets of Vietnam with Vietnamese gf's, that don't get arrested. Do the Vietnamese just pretend they aren't fu cking also?

I didnt really research it, thinking back on it its actually you just cant stay together in a hotel i think. It's likely a way for the hotels to scam you. I was touring hcm and some beach towns with a Vietnamese girl I met in shanghai. She arrived the second day I was in mui ne (****ty place btw) and the hotel demanded that I get a seperate room for her. I forget what ended up happening but I did pay extra and the security agreed not to say anything

When we got back to hcm the hotel there asked if she was staying with me and I said yes. The staff had a little conference and then were on the computer for a long time and said it would be no problem. When I checked out the hotel was under her name, not mine. This was a 5 star hotel, I doubt they would do that anywhere else.

I tried to take back one girl who was not the one I knew and she was denied. We ended up having to go somewhere else which was not a hotel and was something like a pay by the night apartment.

You won't get busted by the cops, it's just that your hotel won't let you take the girl to your room. Some hotels will make you rent an additional room in the girl's name. Some will just refuse to let her in. Just have to make extra sure that your hotel is "guest friendly" if you do go to Vietnam.

You can do Japan and Seoul on your budget easily, but you'll have to dress neat to get anywhere with handing out numbers (if you plan to do that there).

I've been researching Japan a lot, it seems like outside of Tokyo can be done cheaply.

Bali has been sounding worse and worse to me as well.

Japan/korea is the two places ive always wanted to live fulltime at but i always thought it was way out of my budget. and isnt the language barrier really really bad? Close to impossible for any conversation which is more than 10 sentences worth?

Yeah I've wanted to live in Japan since a kid as well. There's a ton of info out there on living cheaply in Japan. My friend sent me a few blogs with tons of info on how people were living in Tokyo for less than 1.5k usd a month. Even cheaper outside Tokyo.

Language barrier is huge yeah.

Nows the time to go there for a vacation though, dollar is going strong.

buddy had a 3 bedroom house in small city japan for $300/mo. Just lived with his jap gf and loved it. def can be cheap outside of the city, and I guess there's ways to stay cheap within tokyo as well although thats prob not as appealing and gotta make a lot of sacrifices I'd assume

Japan can easily be done on a budget these days. Much cheaper than the US actually.

I think you overestimate how much you need to talk to people that don't speak English to get **** done and nowadays there's google translate as well.
