i find great, interesting food everywhere i go in south-east asia. usually i look for recommendations since i don't have time to experiment for weeks on end, but rarely do i have a bad meal.

I like some SEA food but alot of is low quality ingredients covered in msg, spices, and sugars to make up for the low quality.

Coming from America you either are eating the best(bbq,pizza,beef) of a food group or you get the 2nd best style of food(italian,Chinese,Japanese,Mexican) you can get outside of where the food comes from. This isnt just the big cities like LA or Vegas either pretty much any city in the country is going to have tons of options for diff cuisines that are good quality. Americans are spoiled for food.

Bali has some ridiculously good food for sick value, the only food in BKK that compares is at high-end restaurants. Not sure how it fares vs the US

It's also worth pointing out that a lot of the 'great,' food in the U.S. isn't actually American food, it's food from other countries that's in the U.S.

So it might be more accurate to say the U.S. has the best versions of other countries food available in it.

Thats what i wrote earlier. Theirs a couple of the best versions of a food style in the world in America like pizza,burgers, or BBQ which all dominate other places. Then you have the access to the 2nd best styles of cuisine like Mexican,Italian,Chinese,pretty much anything you can think of. Alot of immigrants and access to cheap quality ingredients i guess is why. Its also affordable to eat.

Only place ive been where the food is on the level of the USA was Tokyo but it costs alot more to eat. Paris food was overrated and super expensive for quality eats. Italy food was good but gets boring after awhile and your not getting the variety of the USA in Italy. I can get near the same quality of foods these countries offer+a huge variety of other foods for a better price in the USA.

What country has the options of the USA with the quality of food for the price? . Its the fact that you have so many options of the 2nd best of a cuisine in even small cities with affordable prices.

I think alot of people think of American food and just think fast food but thats not even what im talking about at all. Theirs so many good affordable restaurant to eat all over its pretty absurd.

You should see the breakfast special i can get in my hometown for 2.00USD(70baht) M-F. Its 3strips high quality bacon 3eggs,toast,a pile of hash browns and coffee and this is good quality for 2bucks. I can get a quality Nystrip steak steak with a salad and 2 sides for 15bucks. Good luck finding these type of deals anywhere else and I'm not talking about just Asia im talking anywhere in the world.

Your dairy and meat produce is miles behind a number of countries(UK, NZ, Oz, Spain, Italy, France and many more) I was shocked how disgusting the dairly produce was(was a few years ago)

And the restaurants whether it is Indian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish are so poor it's laughable. I lived in 3 different places in the US and the pretty much all food was trash compared to countries I have mentioned. Ok small sample size but almost everything I tasted was not the same quality as most of Western Europe.

By far US has been my worst experience of food in all the countries I have visited/lived in.

I guess you believe this to be true otherwise you wouldn't say it but it ****in amazes me when I hear this.

I'd guess that anyone from European countries I have mentioned would agree with me 100%.

Oh I missed out Scandinavia and other obv central European well off countries that will also be streets ahead of US produce and general quality.

My top Chinese place at home is in Ann Arbor and when you go in you'll see one table of whiteys and all Chinese. Everybody has a hot pot on there table. This isnt Americanized Chinese its food for the huge Chinese community that lives near there. Not to say i dont enjoy American Chinese food from time to time but its not the best by any means and its a completely diff style of food.

If i eat Mexican I go to Mexican town. Theirs tons of Mexican places and its real Mexican food. I dont mind some Taco bell from time to time but its nothing like the real Mexican made by Mexicans. Again the states has a huge community of Mexicans making real Mexican food but you can also find the Tex Mex style of food in every city which can be good too.

If i eat Italian im not going to olive garden im going to a mom and pop Italian place where its owned by a Italian family. Every city will have one if you know where it is.

Just like the best pizza places wont be pizza hut or Dominos. Their going to be a mom and pop pizza shop that has the best.

Agree about the beer sucking balls though. Give me a Chang anyday over any American beer. Also LOL at anyone who thinks Beer Lao is the best beer in SEA thats crap as well.
