Thanks for all the tips, the Hyatt sounds pretty sweet.

I'm wondering though, with Spring Break just starting, is this a dumb week to visit TJ or should it be okay?

Nah, don't think too many of the kids head to TJ proper anymore (not enough to notice, anyhow).

Yah I wouldn't worry about it, I go to college a few hours north and know very few people who would even consider going down there for spring break.

Yea Spring Break destinations were always further south, like in Mazatlan, etc. TJ/Rosa is definitely not a typical Spring Break destination.

You get a lot of Spring Breakers in Rosarito. Papas & Beer.

Just got into the Hyatt.... nice digs for sure, thanks for the tip. I don't know if there are group hangouts going on around here or not, but if anyone is up for a beer at some point let me know.

Incidentally - how do you guys find your apartments around here? Is there a realtor that's recommended, or a couple sweet buildings to check out?

sterlinguini i came to this thread tonight to ask a question about the Hyatt!!! so good timing on that haha, my question was if anyone had confirmed they run off of a mexican ISP not an american one. Also how long are you down there for?
Official Tijuana Thread (Food, Living, Recreation, Etc.) Quote

I simply googled "how to tell what my isp is" and I got this website that says it's "Telefonos del Noroeste, S.A. de C.V." and the location marker is in Mexico. Should be good to go I hope!

I'll be here for a week or two. If it really grows on me perhaps a lot longer because there are some very convenient things about TJ.

Erizo is just past Paseo Chapultepec, another great/chill restaurant where you can get great local food & order more for takeout if desired.

Hit up Verde y Crema tongiht - amazing. BCB being right across the street was pretty awesome. Thanks for the tips. I will find Erizo tomorrow... I wanted to go tonight but the guy working at the hotel suggested it was a bit far, but I'm super stoked for that one.

What rate did you get at the Hyatt, if you don't mind sharing, and where did you book it? Booked directly, or through 3rd party site like Expedia, etc,?

There's a deal through the official website where if you book 3 days, the third is free. Definitely recommend that route as it comes out to 70 per day pre tax which is a big savings over other sites.

This room has a nice sofa and a big screen I was able to hook my laptop up to. I'll be able to grind here pretty easily here so I'm definitely happy with the choice.

If anyone has a tip for longer term residences though I'd appreciate it. I'd be interested in taking a tour with a realtor if anyone can recommend one.

Go to the Rosarito thread, and check out the Google docs on the first page. Tons of information there, nota ure how current it all is though as I have no first hand expierience down there. Hoping to check it on out soon though.

If anyone has success wtih a realtor, post on here for sure (lol, I have little/no clue there other than maybe Miguel?). TJ/Mexico still seem to do a lot of stuff offline. There's several sites with listings (if you Google), but seems like a lot of stuff is either posted in person, or they go through agencies (?).

Glad the Hyatt/V&C is working out well. Think that's a great area to live around too (there or La Cacho, if I'm naming that neighborhood just to the West/South-of-Agua Caliente correctly).

Just wanted to add that Marty mentioned his friend stayed at Hotel Lucerne where the room had some kind of wrap-around desk setup (probably less nice on the inside/similar price?). That's a little ways down Paseo de los Heroes (from Plaza Rio Mall), but would still be walkable to some places.

Picked up a pro tip on the hotels today - everything seems to be much cheaper through the expedia site. It may be related to the exchange rate they use.

Also noticed expedia gives the buy 2 get 1 free promotion the Hyatt gives out, so it's actually cheaper to buy on expedia than through Hyatts own site. (Incidentally the Hyatt would be a full 115 dollars more for a three night stay through booking.com.. so def don't use them)

By the way I'm definitely considering a longer stay here now. If anyone knows of a good room or apartment available let me know.

For people who haven't been to Tijuana in many years (or who have never been at all), there's a ton of money and investment flowing into new condos, commercial projects and infrastructure. Something like 30 high-rise developments underway.

http://www.kpbs.org/news/2016/apr/07...-tijuana-migr/

As a Border city on the South side it's always going to face a lot of additional challenges, but there's a lot of private investment & citizenry (on both sides) trying to leverage it's advantages moving forward. Exciting times ahead (*fingers crossed*).

Hi, guys, could you help me, please?
Are those poker networks available in Mexico now: microgaming, 888, ipoker, winning, party?
Thanks

Do any of these New City high rise buildings just across the border have 1 bedroom or studios?

I've tried searching online Mexican reality sites, but even when translated to English, the info is hard to search and filter. Some of the New City 2 bedrooms with 2 baths seem to be going for around $2,000 which seems like a reasonable price. I was wondering if any of these buildings had 1 bedroom or studios in the $1,000 - $1,500 range.

If you post links to the sites (or DM me) I can do the translation for you and figure out if they offer them.

Thanks Jack. I'll look up some sites and post links later. I just read your Mexicali stuff, it was good read. Are you still doing trek from Las Vegas to Mexicali? I also live in Las Vegas, I'm thinking of getting back on PokerStars through Tijuana either by living there full time or by living in San Diego.

http://casas.trovit.com.mx/renta-new-city-tijuana

I tried this site for example. But it does 1+ bedrooms instead of exactly 1 bedroom. Also I have no idea the word for studios. I don't need or could afford the un-used second bedroom.

This list stuff in Tijuana, but not sure If any of these are New City just over border if I was trying to do quick San Diego commute.

Yes I absolutely still do Mexicali, love it there. I've tried other places like Tijuana, Tecate and Ensenada but I find that Mexicali is cleaner and more modern than the other two. Plus the border crossings in Mexicali are super easy.

I'm out for a walk right now but lll check the links you sent when I get home and report back

i have a 3br 1 block away in a building with no ammenities. i pay 550/mo for the apartment

theres a few buildings, they have #s to call out front. dunno about online listings

i like living in tj a lot. infrastructure is reliable, can walk to border. new border is always fast walking. food is the best, and by far the beer capital of latin america

(also live in sd and commute)

cant fathom mexicali weather, but i guess if you both live in vegas it makes sense

Mexicali would HIGHLY disagree with you on that one. The number of microbreweries in Mexicali is really quite impressive and most decent restaurants out here have a great beer list, with both Mexicali and international beers. One of the locals is Triton and tastes amazing, highly recommended.
