Obviously getting setup is ez game, we've set up 6 people total in this building.

Only looking for those who may be interested in moving and/or taking over rent pretty ASAP. We can wait a month and a half for another friend, but it kinda screws everyone on covering rent...which we'll end up doing if there's no real interest.

Don't worry, you end up on the San Ysidro right lanes (No Fast Pass) and its totally legit. Starting next Tuesday Dec 20th, that lane that you took is going to be the new "Ready Lane" (4 lanes) and will speed up the waiting time in half for persons crossing the border with RFID-embedded travel documents. This service is totally free

It doesn't mention US passport on that site as an accepted document, but I know the new passports have RFID in them.. I'm sure that would work?

No, they don't work. At least not at the other ready lanes.

The US "Passport Card" is valid to use ready lane

The US Passport Card Can be used to enter the U.S. From Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda at Land Border Crossings or Sea ports of entry and is more convenient and less expensive ($55 Dlls/ 10 years) than "Passport Book".

Watch the USA news once in a while. I can link crazy **** all day. SD, California is supposed to be one of the best places to live and after 20 minutes of the news there I am scared to enter (not really, but you get the idea)

There are bad people, business, and scams anywhere in the world. Go with the places we all have had good experiences with and you will be fine.

im not talking about scams in general. im talking about credit card fraud and online banking fraud.

i was a victim of debit card fraud several years ago and my bank reimbursed me for the stolen money.

Definitely sucks, but there's no need to keep much money in your Mexican bank account as a US expat grinder. Don't do huge (whatever that is for you) withdrawals at once, and get that $$ out as cash or to your US account with reasonable promptness.

That Article is totally out of context; written 5 or 6 years ago.

Things are different today in Mexico; in order to do any operation (except checking your balance) on-line you need a user, password and "Token".

yea, dammit. finally signed up for online banking today and they had all these "token" questions and when I wanted to activate it and have them send it to me (Basically the RSA security token for pokerstars from what I can tell, but seems extreme). Do I really need to get this??

Just wanna update the thread on the "Ready Pass" Lanes. I got to border around 6am to find it packed and went ahead to ready lane(not knowing it was as the sign was not up until today). It took about 45minutes to cross and when I got up to the booth the agent never even brought it up, just took my Passport like all the other trips. I mentioned it and asked if I would be OK with my passport in the future and he said I should be fine. Things may change in the future but just figured Id update the thread on this as the border can be super busy this time of year and this could save you alot of time. GL. Keep in mind, this is NOT the "Fast Pass" Lane.

So, I know this was talked about a lot, but has anyone done the following yet.

Stars/Moneybookers -> Santander USD -> USA USD

I'm trying to get more info on how it all works. Seems like MB -> Santander USD is best, but does it work? I assume you can just walk into Santander and get money wired back to the USA no problem?

Just go into Santander and they give you the token on the spot. You need it to view statements online.

(I have mxn santander...but don't think it makes a difference. I'll need a USD santander to avoid extra vigs probably)

you need to go into santander and tell them you'd like to setup wire transfers with a US bank. They give you a paper with their info on it, you go to you're US bank, make the wire, confirm it with santander, and then you are able to link the accounts. You can probably do this the other way around as well
