I'm pretty sure your right, there is a far left lane, but once you get past the confusing lane on the right it becomes obvious where you need to go, and there isn't much risk of taking the wrong left lane.

Re: Official Rosarito Thread
LOL this sounds confusing as ****... either that or you guys are all directional jackasses... based on the number of people in this discussion I'm guessing it's the former.
So what do those of you living there NOT like about it? I'm curious what I shouldn't be getting my hopes too high about.

Re: Official Rosarito Thread
It's pretty confusing. So if I get this right, I follow the signs for San Diego from the toll road, then when I get off the highway and get to that unmarked intersection I am supposed to turn immediately left. Then after that I follow the signs, but don't get in the far right lane like it seems like I am supposed to be doing and instead stay in the middle lanes? Do I have that right? Anything else after that (I've never made it that far)? Should be fun.
Rosarito negatives:
Tourism is dead. If you expect there to be much in the way of nightlife and you enjoy that, you are going to be disappointed. Not sure if Spring Break will be different, but all reports seem to indicate it is way, way off its peak. The police are corrupt (could be good or bad, I suppose).
There are no young foreigners really. You get that in a lot of other cities like Bangkok/Buenos Aires/etc. Just doesn't seem to exist here. All the foreigners are retired.
You pretty much have to have a car if you ever want to leave your apartment, even if you live downtown. Well I guess living downtown you can just cab when you want to go to the store, but it seems kinda silly. You aren't really going to walk around Rosarito. And staying downtown, you miss a lot.
Just in general I find there isn't much to do. It's a touristy beach town with no more tourism. You figure out what the means.
The ocean is cold, the water is dark, and the beaches aren't great. Coming from California, you expect this, but if you are thinking you are going to get the Caribbean here, you are wrong.
The internet, depending on provider, can be sketchy.
There is a decent amount of good too. The rent is cheap even for oceanfront which is pretty cool. The weather is generally amazing. The food is cheap. There are some Western conveniences in town and it's close to San Diego. If you are willing to go into Tijuana from time to time, there is even more to do. Ensenada isn't very far and offers even more. In general I feel very safe, but I haven't ventured out much in the middle of the night. Gas is cheap. So are cigarettes, if that's your thing. The drive along the coast is pretty amazing.

Re: Official Rosarito Thread
Yeah I was planning on bringing my car to commute back and for the to the US, and I'm not a big night club guy, I love to drink but I much rather party at a friends house or a smaller bar where you can BS and hear eachother then dance at a club so I'm not too worried about the night life. Thanks for the info, defintely a little bit of a bummer about the beaches not being up to Carribean standards.

Yes, it's pretty much just following signs, but the signs are far from perfect: you make a right onto the first street after seeing the sign for SD/5 on the highway...make a left at the light/intersection (there will be traffic coming from the other direction at this intersection) ...the ramp to the border is straight in front of you after you make the left, underneath a sign that says "San Diego."
Then, the only tricky thing in terms of the ramp is that you can easily wind up stuck in the "Servicios Medicos" line on the right, which isn't too big a deal, but you will have to loop around and go back through the traffic circle to get back to the border (FWIW, when this happens, I believe you wind up at the opposite side of the "unmarked intersection" needing to make a right to get to the ramp).
Did you attempt to get to the border, fail, and then come back?
And I agree with all of your comments ITT about the pros/cons of Rosarito living.
What goes on in Ensenada? I am thinking of taking a day trip down there sometime.

Re: Official Rosarito Thread
I attempted to get the border and had to eventually just pay a taxi to show me how to get there after getting lost for 15 minutes. I missed the left turn at the intersection, then realized where I was headed couldn't be right so I came back and went the right way at the intersection. Then I guess I went to the right instead of staying in the middle and got even more lost. I was right next the border, but kept going in circles and couldn't figure out how to get in line. I never even got to the servicios medicos line.
What happens if you just go in the Sentri line? I'm not sure if it was a Sentri line, but I ended up on a different part of the border crossing (more towards lanes 10-18 or whatever they are) but there seemed to be a separate lane some people were zipping through blocked off by concrete barriers. The thing is, the lane I was in had people just jumping over into that lane right before the border where the concrete barrier disappeared so if you somehow figured out where that lane let in, there was nothing to stop you from using it and skipping 99% of the line. Might look into it more. It had to be a Sentri line but there was no marking showing that.

I'm pretty sure there is housing like that, and there are some people in town without a car. You wouldn't want to be without a car where I am (or where steel is) though.

Re: Official Rosarito Thread
Should be down there with Starting Gun in 9 days, pretty excited!
Anyone else at Calafia Resort and Villas (Playas de Rosarito)? Starting Gun and I weren't planning on a vehicle, hopefully we're not too far out to where it'll be a burden without one, not totally sure where Calafia is compared to everyone/everything else, guess we'll find out
Just going to reiterate again that if you're looking for a very reliable and trustworthy realtor, get in contact with Miguel Sedano (pm me for contact info). I was referred to him by Steel08 and he has been very very helpful so far; and he's even found his way onto 2p2 and has been posting/helping out quite a bit.

Calafia is in south Rosarito right next to where I am in las olas grand. It is a nice place with very nice grounds/amenities and nice views from all units. Gamingfosho on 2p2 lives there at Calafia. There are 3 restaurants in walking distance in the historic Calafia hotel as well as another restaurant at Las Olas. The Security is great there and you can get a cab from there to anywhere in Rosarito you want to go for about $8 bucks. If you are looking for a peaceful place to grind that is not directly in town you will be very happy. You are roughly a 10 minute, or less drive/cab ride to the north tip of Rosarito.
