examples of "super-nice" in playa:
aldea thai
magia
deva
the elements

you'll notice, places in those buildings are much, much more expensive than oasis. there's a reason for that...

also, for $1350 (or more like 1800-1900 which is what people coming now are more likely to pay for a place in oasis) in a lot of areas in the US you can do a whole lot better than oasis (which is one of the few buildings in playa that could potentially fall in the category of being actually somewhat decent for <2000usd/month).

edit: heh, almost forgot. when i was at oasis, it was the administrator of the building who showed me units. when i asked her about electricity there, she was very forthright. she told me that many of the residents in the building have been complaining about their electricity bills. she wanted to make sure that i understood that if i used the a/c regularly, i should expect bills around 20,000 (every 2 months). so, when oasis ends up renting for 25K, not 18K, and you add 10K/month in electricity for a total cost of 35,000mxn ($2,600usd/month), you're faced with two options: find a place that's even worse than oasis, or blow $2600 of your 3-4K budget on oasis and try to enjoy living here on the rest...
Payed 3.4K for 2months electricity in oasis.. just use the fan and you will be ok

Re: Official Playa Del Carmen Thread

Im looking for roommates/open rooms in Playa starting around the 23rd of August. Currently living in Rosarito. Im chill, grind HU so I won't interfere with anyone's games, play basketball/most sports, want to get back into diving, smoke ganja, am a mediocre cook, but I don't got out much. 2218, mused01, and rutang would all say that I'm a good guy to have around.

PM me if you're interested in setting something up with me/have openings. Could somebody add me to the skype group (..andy.courts..)

Re: Official Playa Del Carmen Thread

Hey everyone! I am looking into moving down there but am curious about bringing my dog. I've done some research and found that dogs aren't allowed on the beach or in taxi's/buses(could make if difficult to get down from Cancun). Was wondering if this is true? Thanks in advance!!

i have traveled to / from playa several times with my dog, and i've lived here with my dog for 3 years. dogs are not allowed on the beach anywhere near the center of playa del carmen. very early in the morning (before 7am), you can usually get away with it without anyone hassling you. there are some beaches about a 15 minute drive away that are more dog-friendly.

buses i would imagine are a no-go, but taxis are hit and miss. there may be an official rule that dogs aren't allowed in taxis, but that doesn't mean any given taxi driver won't agree to take you with your dog anyway. some will see your dog and just drive past you. when they stop, i've had pretty good luck by learning to ask very politely in spanish if they will take me with my dog. you need to explain that the dog will stay on the floor, is very clean, and won't pee in their car. most drivers will agree, sometimes asking for a higher fare. some will refuse. at this point i'd say i can probably convince 7/10 to take my dog.

from the airport, it might be a bit tricky. i'd imagine that someone there would agree to take you and your dog to pdc, but it may not be easy. i'd suggest that you contact some of the airport transfer companies and see if you can pre-arrange transportation to pdc with your dog. expect to pay something like 900-1000 pesos (65-75 usd) one-way. i've had pretty good experiences with this company, although i can't remember if i've ever used them with my dog:
usa transfers

once you get to pdc, pm me and i can send you the cell-phone #'s of some dog-friendly taxi drivers. i have a list that i can go down and generally arrange for someone to come pick me up with my dog within 15 min or so.

Re: Official Playa Del Carmen Thread

Looking to avoid the English winter for a couple months from roughly October - December, I speak a little Spanish and am keen to improve and there seems to be lots of poker players in PDC so makes sense I consider here!

Never been a big grinder, and don't really like to talk poker strat much but living with poker players will def help facilitate the trip and help get to know the place better. So anybody got a spare room for me? Looking to stay in as nice an apartment/area as possible really. Will wanna do lots of diving, sports, improving spanish and macking on girls so will be good to live with like-minded people.

Thx in advance

Dig it Jay! I'm completely enjoying the NW summer so might be WCOOP grind in Vancouver for me, then back to PDC in October as well.

What is the storm outlook for the rest of the season? Part of my motivation for returning in the fall is missing the bad weather. Can't imagine how tilting it would be to drop power/internet during WCOOP.

Anyone know where to buy a computer here? Office depot is overpriced for what you get, I just need something cheap to replace my computer until I go back to the states.

I think sams club, but it will still be overpriced compared to the states. One of the few things usa does well
