Anyone been successful finding a place with stable internet? My internet can be fast when connected but it is constantly disconnecting which is obv a huge problem for poker. I got one of those telcel 3g sticks as a backup, but it doesn't work when my internet is down which of course defeats the purpose. I have been in Playa several times before and internet is always a huge pain in the ass, but I've never experienced it this bad. I'm at the point where I will just forfeit the month I paid for and move somewhere else. I've been back in Playa now for a week. Any suggestions are appreciated!

in all likelihood, moving is probably your best option. it's probably not your general location that is the problem, but rather your individual line/modem/whatever. You should be able to move to pretty much any other area and hope for better luck...there's no way to guarantee that any individual line in any area will have a good connection. You could try to look for a rental that has an internet connection already in place and try to confirm in advance that the connection is stable...

I had a similarly bad internet connection and telmex was able to get it fixed. but it took 3+ months of dogging them to get them to fix it, and that was with someone who speaks fluent Spanish helping me to track down telmex guys, go to the telmex office, call telmex support, etc etc.

the telcel stick should be another possibility for you though. I don't understand why it won't work regardless of the status of your wired internet connection?

I'm staying at one of those apart hotels where there is one modem for the whole building although there are individual routers in each room. Unfortunately, there's no input for a wired connection on the router which would probably help with the strength. I have stayed at two aparthotels in the past with little to no problems though. I will probably go check them out again but they were fairly expensive. And yea no clue on the telcel stick. I was trying to get it to work today when the internet was down and no luck, however when the internet came back, the stick would work on its own. Weird.

Internet in Mexico can be truly bizarre sometimes. I stayed at a place in playa once where I literally had no signal at my desk, but when I moved my comp right next to the door I was getting 10mb/sec.

Also, it seems in Mexico that realtors/landlords and anyone else will basically just tell you what you want to hear instead of being straight with you. Every place I have looked to rent claimed they had strong internet including this one. Last year, I even had a landlord claim I had a $350 electric bill when I never even had the AC on (this was in January and there were plenty of fans to keep the place cool so I didn't need it). Playa can be frustrating but I do love it down here.

afaik best option is just to put it in your bag and bring it, if it's obviously not new I don't think you should have to pay a tax.

Not really, I've come down twice with 2 monitors and 2 computers and haven't paid a dollar. When they ask how much you paid say like $100 for the monitor
