Hi,

this is my friend that posted for me because I had n oaccount but I figure it's better I just do it with my own account.

After the wsop main event i am coming to PDC and am either looking to stay with other gridners or get my own place soemwhere nice with good internet. If anyone has any good recommendations on where I should look please let me know. My only priorities:

Good Internet
Good location(beach/going out)
Good furniture
And safety I guess although seems it's not that big a deal in PDC

I feel like you're generalizing too much. You CAN get a unit there for 18k, bc I was just shown one 3 days ago. The furnishings are VERY nice, and they exist, lol.

The places in the other buildings you mentioned are more expensive likely bc, with the exception of DEVA, they are all beachfront. That is obviously a huge selling point with them, and why they are more expensive. I've had friends in both Elements and Aldea Thai, and Aldea Thai is the clear winner. Elements has more problems than you'd think.

OF COURSE there are places in the US you can do better than Oasis for $1350, but that's not really relevant. You're trying to rent in a beach town, in a strong rental market, so you can't really compare apples to oranges.

You're not wrong. The problem with the electricity here, is that once you become a high power user, you lose all government subsidies, almost permanently. Even if you never turn your A/C on, if the renters before you were high power users, you're stuck in the bracket without subsidies. My highest electricity bill has been 1k pesos for 2 months, but I have yet to turn on my A/C in 6 months. That's going to crush your elec bills.

Internet is hit or miss with the way Cablemas is scattered around the town. Alot of us have had terrible problems with Telmex, the other internet provider. More so than any of the Cablemas users. Lots of disconnections and slow speeds.

Ideal locations are probably going to be between 8th street and 40th street, and 20th avenue and the beach. that puts you in the heart of beaches, clubs, restaurants, grocery stores, and nicest condos, etc.
Safety not an issue in that area, doubt it would be much of a problem further out, though I wouldn't quote me on that.

2BR rent runs from 14k pesos up. (~$1050)
Only utility you need to worry about is electricity. I've seen some bills that were as high as 28k pesos. That's when you run A/C all day every day in every room. Also seen them as low as 750 pesos for 2 months. That's with no A/C usage.
Close to 40 2p2ers here. Maybe more.

but that's not the only reason. there are two additional huge factors that make living on a modest budget (by US standards) extremely challenging here:

1) essentially anywhere you go in the US outside of the extreme competitive markets (i.e., nyc, sf), beach or not, strong rental market or not, you will find that there is a plethora of mid-range apartments available to rent. there's a lot of incentive for builders to produce buildings with hundreds of decently high-quality, mid-range cost apartments, because there's a huge population of people in the US in that income range. here, not so much. they're building to target the two primary demographics here: rich people (on vacation or otherwise), and extremely poor people. if you're not in one of those two categories, you have far fewer options to choose from here (hence, you pay more for lower quality).

2) electricity can put a huge strain on a modest budget here. you end up overpaying for a decent place to live, because there's a shortage of places like that here, and then you're baking in the heat and turn on your a/c and get hit with $700/month electricity bills. that's not happening anywhere in the US. again, here, the structure is set up for people with a bunch of money ("meh, a $1500 electricity bill, who cares"), and extremely poor people. there's no "middle class => reasonable electricity bill" option here. if you're making it work by never using your a/c, then sweet. but, people, that is not something most of you are going to want to do here. it's ****ing hot. if i had to live here without a/c, i'd just go back.

Re: Official Playa Del Carmen Thread

No reason to even discuss it anymore tbh.

Cliffs:
You can live in a nice place for under 2k total a month no problem, unless you are ryan and scuff at the idea of spending less than $5k per month. Everyone has their own taste. Neither is wrong.

On another note:

Does anyone play basketball/football(AMERICUHHHHHH FOOTBALL) around here? Or would be interested in getting pickup games going? Join the gym lately but I would like to find something fun for cardio, IE sports.

I do not disagree with either of these 2 points.

OD, you'll want to be less abrasive if you want to join in any of these things. We have a weekly beach volleyball game at Mamitas on Saturdays, but you've offended most of the Playa community when you said they were mostly immature/terrible based on one person's behavior who had beef with you, so you'd have to start from scratch with these dudes. I don't doubt we would give you a chance however. We're all good dudes.

Well as I said many times, there are some really immature people in this community. Keyword some, not all. I havn't met the majority of grinders here.

Reading is hard. I obviously wasn't talking about you(although maybe I could be since you wont post on your real name while trolling) or uber pea. The ones I was talking about are the ones I have met.Although Some of the people I was talking about were the ones in the skype group, a couple of those I havn't met but have no intention to. I agree I was wrong making the statement on the forums, but that was a direct response to when that guy introduces himself a couple people just berated him for no reason.

I don't like to see new people just get berated to get a laugh out of their friends.

But for what its worth, I'm not the only one who thinks some of the people here are really immature. Some guy I met 2 months back said he met some of the people from the skype group and said he was thinking about moving to Rosarito because of how ridiculous some people acted towards him. Also another one who moved here last week said he has no plans to meet anyone from skype group either due to maturity levels.

Some people think that its funny to make fun of others for no reason, I don't. Difference of opinions. If you dont fall into that category then I'm sure we wouuld get along as Im really easy going.

Yea sounds good. Never played tennis though, but was actually thinking about trying it because I live really close to those courts. Just hit me up on skype when your back in town.
