Three-page article on black friday that featured a few players who used to live at Panorama and now live in Playa. 2+2 is mentioned a couple of times, as is the poker player volleyball game that's been mentioned in this thread. Presumed they or someone would have posted about it in this thread. I can't remember their names; Been, maybe?

With articles like that and the quote from the PDC wikipedia page: "Playa del Carmen has seen an increase in foreign residents who generate their income via online gaming such as online poker. There are an estimated 300 online poker professionals in Playa del Carmen" I wouldn`t be too surprised if the mexican tax authorities became interested in u guys next :P

I guess I should mention some details about these, since even though I've had a couple of serious offers, I've had about 5 lol offers as well.

They are 30inch, LCD, 3000H-BN, monitors. You can't buy monitors like this in Mexico, which means they either have to be shipped, or flown in with your luggage.

I have used them for just under a year, and they both still have over a month left on the store warranty, and I think another year on factory.

When you have stuff like this flown in, or imported to Mexico, you have to pay a duty tax as well on any items over 300 bucks--more if it's work equipment.

Cost of shipping, taxes, and monitors was close to 2500 bucks. I have all the original packaging, and can fly them back to the US as an extra piece of luggage--I'm not in a situation where I HAVE to get rid of them, and I'm not just going to give them away. If you are just moving to Playa, and are interested in getting a couple of cheapo 20inchers, there is a computer store here that is decent, and if you PM me I'll give you the address, or you can hop on the bus to Cancun and pick them up at the Best Buy.

I'll be in Belize over the next week, so I won't be able to meet up with any potential buyer after around 11 PM tonight, until the 14th. If you need them in a serious way before the 14th, I might be able to have a friend meet you, but it would be a hassle, and would take a special circumstance.

I was planning on staying in a hotel for a few nights and looking at some of the places with the realtor, who I found out about through JadeLane from a post he made earlier. How cheap do the hotels get?

What kind of tax would you pay on them? I want to bring my (used) PC and 1 monitor if I can fit them in my luggage, I read that laptops you can fly in with duty free but not PCs. Also, do you think they would give me crap for bringing a big old PC and monitor on a 180 day FMT?

I think I paid $70 when I first got here on like, $500 declared value? big guess tho, 16 months ago

It was a noob move, if you can fit into your luggage just gamble that you don't hit the red light (I think 1/3 times you push the button through customs, it comes up red and they search your stuff)

Even if you do runbad, I seriously doubt you would end up paying more in duties than if you declared it like I did. Plus I had to wait around an additional 30 minutes waiting for the dip**** to fill out forms and such

You should check out this hostel. I think a friend told me it was still going for 190 pesos a night. http://www.mariasabinahotel.com/Home_Page.php

Thanks killereagle, I'm emailing to ask about reservations. The realtor I have been in contact with just told me she couldn't find a single apartment for me and that everything was booked! And all this 5 days before I'm supposed to be leaving. I've posted this before but if anybody knows of any apt openings or a room for rent please let me know!

70% to move to PDC in mid-late jan, not sure for how long, 3/6/+ months. If anyone is looking for a roommate during that time PM me.

Also, does anyone have a view of the beach from their apartments? That's one of the things I was excited for in moving to Mexico, haven't seen any pictures of window views ITT.

bpm=tourist season? I'm now noticing that the beachfront condo pics are on rocky beaches anyways.

I dont know of any rocky beaches in playa...there are a couple small eroded spots that have sandbags...maybe you are looking at another town like tulum. BPM is a big elctronic music festival.

I mean other beaches in Mexico. It looks like bpm ends 1/13 so I'll be dodging that. Won't be in until late january.

Thanks for the replies

luna maya has a unit that I looked at way back when that had a pretty good ocean view. was decent value too, I think they wanted 1200usd for a 2br 2.5ba. the location (46th I think) isn't the best though, but not unreasonable

places like elements are going to have great views but you pay the price

1 problem with the views is that to keep the "small farming villiage" feel they passed a law that no building can be over 4 stories high. so anything not on the beach wont have a great view except from the rooftop and most ppl live on 5th or further

I personally like that better than compared to like cancun where you have a bunch of sky rises and huge all inclusives. semi tacky imo

Hi,

I tried searching through this thread and couldn't find anything on this so sorry if I missed something.

I am moving to Puerto Vallarta in a couple weeks. I realize it's not the same place but I figure laws are the same. I am reading online that I'm not allowed to ship a desktop to Mexico (I am from the US), or that if I do there's some huge fee or something. Is this true? What are my options? I was planning on mailing it there and buying two monitors when I'm there. If I don't want to play on a laptop do I have to buy a desktop when I'm already in Mexico? I figured some of you guys would have been in the same situation, any help is appreciated. Thanks.
