yeah como como sounds right. was very good and modestly priced. we had 2 apps, probably 8 drinks (2 wines, 4 beers, 1 soda, 1 bottle water) 4 entrees and 2 deserts and I think total came to 1500 peso before tip.

They had pretty diverse menu, lamb shank, tuna steaks, pastas, steaks etc. I think my mom read you usually need reservations for it, we were able to sit down right away, but placed filled up really quick after that so I think we got lucky. There are maybe 10 tables in the place

and +1 to la piola steak, that was one of the better steaks of my life outside of top notch steakhouse is vegas etc

I also feel liek you are doing pumerella wrong if you order anything but pizza. I have had 2 or 3 other dishes there to meh results. The fried zuchenni is delicious though for an app.

beer pong trny still on for tomorrow, starts at 7 all are welcome

La Portina (38th/5th)
is my favorite meal in playa. it's an Argentinian grill w/ steaks from 130-160 pesos. burgers and sausage for 40-60 pesos, they don't serve alcohol but do allow BYOB which can be purchased from the store next to it.

i haven't really found that. still looking for a place with killer bacon / sausage / hashbrowns. but, i do have two breakfast recommendations that are more mexican style but work for me even when i'm wishing i could find a solid american style breakfast:

1) la cueva del chango
38th between 1st and 5th. carved out of the jungle. mostly mexican dishes, but also crepes & more. great fresh juices and smoothies

2) cactus
30th & 20th. the space isn't much of anything, but the food is outstanding. mexican dishes, french chef. the pan frances is ridiculous, great chilaquiles, and they will deliver.

The Filet Mignon was also awesome for 175. Easily as good (maybe better) than the $300-400 filets at the more expensive restaraunts. On a side note, anyone get a USD account down here? Both HSBC and Santander rejected me. I just got here two days ago and am def down to meet up with some of you guys!

+1 for Cueva del Chango. I had some amazingly good chilaquiles there.

So where did some of you end up finding rentals and what were your lease terms? I wanted to get something for 1-3 months just so I had some flexibility if I didn't like it. I was also thinking of getting a baller beachfront pad with 2-3 others if there was interest so I just wanted to chill somewhere for a month and see what my options were. Almost every place I've gone to has required a 6 month lease minimum. If I just wanted a month I would have to pay weekly prices. Anyone successful finding a month-to-month rental? Also, I'm gonna start Spanish lessons next week at this school called Solexico. It seems pretty solid. Will give reviews if anyone else was interested in taking Spanish. Also, there seemed to be lots of young foreign girls there . Thanks, and Playa is ****in awesome!

I studied at Solexico in Playa for 3 weeks this time last year. You are absolutely correct about the young foreign chics. It's expensive for the Spanish lessons compared to almost all other options but the school is cool, they do something new nightly and have weekly nights outs, volleyball and beach football games. You can continue going to these after you've dropped out - if you decided to get some cheaper lessons at that point.

I'm going to do 2 more weeks there just for the social side of it when i get back there.

I'm going to be in the same situation as you as of Feb 15th when I get there. Only looking for somewhere for 2 months and would prefer a baller place. Keep in touch with how it goes.

what are the hours for solexico? I am thinking of starting spanish class sometime soon

You can get either private or group lessons in the morning from 9-12, 9-1, or 9-2. So that would be a package of 15, 20, or 25 hours/week. Pretty sure you have to pay by the week. I'm doing the 9-12 although I wish they had a 2 hour/day option. I think you can do 2 hours/day in the afternoon for private lessons but I'm not 100% about that. Either way I would prefer the morning. Private lessons will end up running you $27/hour and group lessons are a bit less.

9 - 12 with a conversation class 1 - 3 which is cheap to add on. I think.

The afternoon classes are conversation classes which will be small or could be just yourself (and you'll pay group price), they are cheap to add on, but it does make for an intensive day and it does suck when everyone is going to the beach or kite surfing after morning classes, but you could do 1 week on 1 week off with adding the afternoon classes to make it less intensive.

I'm literally on the corner of 12th and 5th Av. It's pretty loud at night, but I don't mind bc of the convenience to everything. Plus when I stumble home drunk, there isn't far to go. I have a 6 month lease. The trade-off to a shorter lease is a higher price, but you could prolly swing a shorter lease, at the cost of perhaps an extra months rent. The only penalty I face if I end my lease early is my security deposit. Food for thought.
