Hey guys I have been here about a year now, I am moving into a new apt next week. As mentioned above its a huge pain in the ass getting a long term place unfurnished here at a non gringo price. Anyways, its a really nice place in laureles, 3 bedrooms. I am looking for possibly 1 more roomate. would prefer 2 months+. PM me if you want more info.

2 questions:

What are good utility companies for water, cable TV, internet, and telephone in Medellin? want to get good service.

Do the utility companies mail invoices every month or every 2 months?

4k per blunt seems to be standard

2k/joint, 5k/blunt is what I've paid for years for crippy. no reason to buy regular imo, but its maybe 30-40k per ounce. higher quality does exist, but not at your standard casas or parks. Seems like bho/wax has made its way onto the scene and is much more expensive at 80-100k per gram, but I'm sure there's some middleman tax in there.

Can you guys suggest a place in Medellin where I would be able to watch the upcoming Champions'League games (actually PSG-Barcelona) ?

i watched the semifinals last spring at some Bar close to Lleras. Shouldnt be a problem finding a place that shows those matches considering how crazy for football most colombians are.

Hi guys, I am thinking of enrolling into Spanish class when I arrive. What's the prices for that? It's it worth it as I have pretty much zero Spanish knowledge. Are there many different schools to choose from?

Realistically- you're in Medellin.. Get a student visa study Spanish 15 hours a week.. There are businesses there that actually cater to this (people wanting to stay).
how much does this cost?

can you skip a class or three and not get in trouble?

it allows you to stay for how long?

thanks

Hey guys what's the best way to rent a place for a2 weeks, month, 3 months? I've had a look on air bnb and it's quiet pricey for your own place. How to find something at a reasonable price? Mind you, I have very limited Spanish

http://www.compartoapto.com , it all seems pretty cheap. It's all in Spanish tho. I am not sure if the condos are shared or not. It looks like ppl live there already, but are looking for roommates?

Anyone have experience with this type of renting?
Would be great to hear about it.

Airbnb is for short term rentals. They're all furnished, centrally located and very easy to book. Owners are looking to get a min 12%+ return on investment. Getting a reduced rate really messes with that number. There is some wiggle room, but generally the more popular the place, the less negotiating power you have.

The more user reviews you have, the more willing they are to negotiate. Also travelling during non peak times is best for negotiating. Generally rent the place for a week at the listed airbnb price. You'll get the owners contact info and depending on the season, popularity of the apartment, and your feedback reviews they will do business with you. And of course the more time you book up the steeper the discount.

That said, do not expect to get a local/spanish speaker rate. You'll still be paying a premium, just a lot less than the sticker price.

So I got an email back from her;

Hello Mehdi,

Welcome to Medellín, I'm really happy that you choose our country and our city to visit.
Anything you need regarding moving or just visiting, let me know I'm here to help you.
I attached my packages and if there is anything you need that is not included in my packages, we can settle it too.
The goal is to help you to make your moving as easy and happy as possible.

Sincerely

Ana María Cáceres

I don't know how to attach a PDF into this, pm me if you want the exact details, she has two packages, one costs 500 bucks and the other 700 bucks...the second one is also a pick up from the airport.. She will find between 3-5 houses for you, she says. All local prices obv, no gringo shizzle...It should be profitable if you planning it out with 4 guys in one big condo..even if its for two person, I think. Will see if I get here service tho. If there are any fellow grinders interested getting here service and a joint pokerhouse, lmk...ciaooo..

So... you're going to furnish everything for 3 months and then.. sell it? that sounds like a major hassle man. not exactly sure how much money you'd be saving after all that time wasted. The offer she gave sounds like she's trying to rip you off lol. Pay $700 to get picked up from the airport and lol help you house hunt?

Dude you just need to figure out how Airbnb is played. I already told most of the good info. The way a professional airbnb prices things is like I said 12%+ in mind with an optimal occupancy rate of 15-20 days per month. That means you can pretty much get a 40-60% discount per month if you rent 2+ months.

honestly dude, just use airbnb or another renting site and be picky and youll save yourself a lot of time and headache. Yeah you're going to pay a little more regardless but so the **** what? its cheap, you're on vacation and you don't have to worry about a single thing going to the airbnb way imo. in most cases its totally worth the juice if you know how to shop and negotiate.

Also, posting that persons full name and telephone number is a bad move imo.
