very NOT NICE...
my bed was too small for me, and i'm not a tall guy, and since it was stuck between 2 walls...
it was like sleeping on a bench out on the street (urine odour included)
my 2 cent: go somewhere else

Going to HK budget hostel instead. Going to be jetlag passed out for half the time anyway, so it prob doesn't matter too much.

I think I stayed at HK Budget Hostel in Causeway Bay...not sure if they are the same ones. It was very convenient, private room with a decent bathroom, internet access and a window! Provided clean water and was fairly cheap. It is on the 3rd floor of the Patterson Building on Patterson street in Causeway Bay. It was packed with foreigners and Chinese folks. Overall pretty happy with it.

It's in Mongkok, I think. $24/night is about as cheap as I could find in the HK area, so I'm not expecting much. If I remember to, I'll let you all know how my experience was.

Re: Official China Thread (Macau, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, etc)
Got in to HK today, if anybody is around and wants to meet up for some drinks shoot me a PM. I'm in Causeway Bay.
Sorry if it has been addressed before but how feasible is it to rent an apartment in HK for a year and make visa runs every 3months for a US citizen? Is there any particular area of the city that is the hands down best place to live for a foreigner? cheers

dunno for hk exactly, but i'm doing that in macau... had to visit a few real estate agencies but within 2 days i found one that was cool with it and rented me a nice place. check out expat forums for shared appartments too, which may save you the hassle of dealing with / explaining to the agencies. Anyways, not only feasible, but not hard, really.
place i liked was soho in hk island but i'm sure others here can give more specific advise

ty and would love to hear from others!
Where do you go for visa runs? And there is no limit on number of times you can renew for US citizens? I read somewhere there was a limit of 3 but it was for somebody from an Asian county. TY.

i guess you can take the ferry to macau, i go to hk myself. I'm euro, so no idea on US specifics.
i've heard going to the chinese border will work too, without passing the mainland customs, just entering the no mans land, and re-entering the SAR, but i havent tried. i'm still pretty much a noob.

I've also stayed in this place. Pretty decent price for HK Island, free wireless in the room (probably true for anywhere in HK though). Lots of Filipino freelance hookers stay in the building too which is a fun bonus.
The major bonus of staying in Causeway bay as opposed to Mongkok/TST is that it is within walking distance of the main HK nightlife areas. The MTR in HK is great but it doesn't run late at night.

Hi, guys. I will be staying in HK from July-Dec. Would like to play in the Hong Kong Poker House . I heard that you need referrals now to play in the HKPH. Is this true? Could somebody help me out?
Thanks!
