My main list of requirements in place im going to rent is its gotta be nice, clean, close access to good right handed beach breaks to surf, and has to have flawless internet. Re: Moving to Costa Rica Jan 2012...looking for some input from people who have already relocat

This thread seems to have been hijacked into a Costa Rica discussion thread so I might as well post here...

Looking to avoid the English winter for a couple months from roughly October - December, I speak a little Spanish and am keen to improve and there seems to be lots of poker players in CR so makes sense I consider here.

Never been a big grinder, and don't really like to talk poker strat much but maybe living with poker players will help facilitate the trip and help get to know the local area faster. So anybody got a spare room or wanna rent a really nice place in a good area? Where are the main places 2p2'ers have moved to and what are they like?

Thx in advance

Hello,

All country discussions are welcome here

We frequently have players changing poker houses and rooms opening up. Usually they go for $500-900 plus bills.

Nicki, our Operations Manager, is British so you can talk to her about non-poker things and she has been on the hunt for the best fish n chips in Costa Rica.

Most of our clients live in these areas if you want to google:
1) Escazu and Santa Ana (Central Valley)
2) Jaco and Hermosa (Central Coast)
3) Playas del Coco
4) A few in Tamarindo area

We can also help you get set up with Spanish lessons

Re: Moving to Costa Rica Jan 2012...looking for some input from people who have already relocat

Bumping to get final confirmation on travelling with a dog to CR. I have a 34 pound hound mix. I have medical papers so I can travel with him in the cabin on the airplane without a crate, so I'm not concerned about that part.

As far as getting him into CR, I need the vet's form filled out with new check-up/physical and an endorsement of that paperwork by the USDA? Rabies vaccination proof older than 1 month but less than 1 year. Anything else? Any other missing info to fill the gap would be great, will probably take him down in the next couple of weeks if i I can get him adequately prepared.

I'm moving to Costa Rica :-)

It's pretty expensive to ship myself my stuff and I can only carry so much on the plane.

For all those who precede me, what did you decide was essential to bring with you?

If you shipped stuff, what kind of costs did you incur? (and through what sender).

Thanks!

Hi Mallory,

It is very expensive to ship, especially electronics can cost thousands of dollars to ship. However, if you are moving long term and bringing furniture then it might be better to get a container (although most poker players do not have a need for this).

If you are moving into a fully furnished place, we would recommend taking everything on the plane. You'll pay less in oversized and additional baggage fees than shipping, for sure. Just be sure to contact the airline first and check their baggage policy as some airlines don't allow computers to go in baggage.

Through our service we also offer prep lists for things to bring with you to Costa Rica.

If you need additional help feel free to check out our service www.pokerrefugees.com

Is it possible to work while in Costa Rica? My girlfriend may want to get a job while we are down there, teaching English perhaps?

Thanks Kristin! I'll definitely be considering using your help, still learning :-)

Anyone who brought their dog and likes to spend way too much to feed it: what food have you found in Costa Rica for them?

Can someone recommend the best spot (or spots) for a luxury vacation type getaway in CR this time of year?

A lot of people in CR use Royal Canine but there are TONS of vets and pet food places.
