Thanks, okay cool, ur so far the first guy choosing vietnam as a favorite But ive met guys, who loved Vietnam, when they traveled around asia. So def an option. More and more thinking about Vietnam & Thailand

How about to get visa in Vietnam? Pay money and extend overthere, like in philippines or more complicated, like in Thailand?

Well, over here in the travel section, yeah, Vietnam will not be a popular destination/degen option. But when speaking to lots of travellers in SEA (and most of my friends here in Canada), Vietnam is oftentimes easily their favourite

As far as visas goes, it is 3 months (get online prior to flying in for 25$), can do a border run (easy and cheap to either Cambodia or Laos) or pay a little extra to an agent to get an extension within Vietnam.

My thread here in the travel section has ample pics of all 5 countries :

Cambo is 3rd world proper, not recommended for most south east asia first timers.

No idea what you'd want to do in Lao.

Some people like Vietnam but it's purse snatcher and hustler haven and internet regularly goes snail paced when the underwater cable to wherever breaks for the 1000th time.

It's easy to get a 60 day Thailand tourist visa for 30 bucks at your local embassy. Extend for another 30 days for the same money and get another 60 day visa in a neighboring country.

I'd recommend Chiang Mai as you have a girlfriend and are looking for low costs of living.

Philippines are more expensive than Thailand I'd say for the same standard of everything.

Hope that helps.

Chiang Mai is solid advice for low cost, decent standard of living. Cambodia for also a good cost and a little more excitement.
I'd say stay away from the manila area if your are on a budget, just not a pleasant city if you can't afford to live in a decent neighborhood.

Thanks for the replies, yea im more and more tended to go to Thailand, it just scares me with visa, since i dont have any idea how easy & expensive itll be to handle it for 5-6 months. So far what ive googled, here for now i read for the first time, that its that easy to stay for 4 months without leaving the country.

I live in Germany for already 15yrs+, but unfortunately still have an ukrainian pass, so that visa thing might be abit harder, than for a guy with german pasport.

Found some really nice apartment in phuket for 280€/month (airbnb), not sure where to find cheap apartments overthere. I would also pay few € more for apartment, if its somehow 10km near a beach everything around 300€/month would be okay i think. Phuket might be more expensive area to stay, but its the only part of thailand where i was and really loved it (was in Nai Harn) Not sure how much more id spend in phuket on food, than in chiang mai

but I just started looking for apartments, not that im a clueless stupid guy who cant google lol. I think for me nice apartment gonna be more important, than a beach tho..

So yea, ill might end up in chiang mai. I gonna keep lookin and giving updates, once i find something.. ask for opinions etc. here If somebody knows kind of "inside" homepage, where to find cheapest condos/apartment in thailand, let me know please. Otherwise id be searching in google for "long term rent apartment chiang mai" and stuff like that, which gonna be not the cheapest for sure.

Search Facebook groups like Chiang mai rentals, Phuket expats, etc... Lots of lease take overs and such.
I know at one point there was a decent grinder community in rawai, Phuket and seems like a good budget option for the island.

Hey guys,

have some big updates. I was pretty busy last few months and didnt have any time&motivation to keep this blog updated, since i didnt even know where I was actually going. So now its all fixed, flight booked and i am ready to go with a huge recent score.

Since i gonna move to Thailand, Phuket, and not Manila, ive decided to start a new thread with the right title and gonna be updating there.

See you there,

cheers,
Pavel
