no. he is comparably safe. the homicide rate in mexico city is 8 per 100kpeople (2010) and in nyc its 6.3 per 100k (2008).were you to say "i feel much safer in mexico city than washington dc (homicide rate of 30:100k people)" you would be absolutely correct.

also lol @ rich g posts:
"US emt's >>>>>>MEX emt's"

Re: Mexico Still safe or are people over reacting?

The question is do you believe the stats. Look at the guy they had a press conference with to say he beat up the CDN girl in a 5 star resort.

No one asks what is the married gal doing in the elevator naked
No one aksks how this guy gets into the 5 star resort as a guest.

Anyone wonder if the guy was framed for it to stop the negative press.

I know many people that are reconsidering Mexico and choosing other areas of the Caribean

having spent time there, living in thailand for years my thought is as long as you dont dress/act like you have money and avoid confrontations by all means you should be fine.

a good example

bad people are not concerned about people walking playing with stray dogs=p they want $ or a reason to punch a rich foreigner because there poor and hate life.

if you do decide to do illegal substances be smart and keep it indoors.

i dont do this in thailand but used to keep a 20 in my sock when i went on 1 day tijuana trips as lived near border. of the 50+times ive been there only once did i have to use it for bribe $. note it was my drunk friend being an idiot..

last thing in mexico better to take taxis if possible vs driving yourself far as getting hassled by the police.

There are vast disparities within Mexico, but some parts of Mexico (especially Cancun) are likely safer than the majority of Caribbean destinations. People don't tend to realize just how violent and dangerous many Caribbean destinations are, as there is a big lack of press on the issue.

Of course, some portions of Mexico, such as Nuevo Laredo, are extremely dangerous.
