It depends what you buy. If you want to buy the same things you bought in the supermarket in England, well then yes, it's more expensive. It has to be imported after all.
Now, if you're talking quality fruit and vegetables, from the Van guys, it much better and cheaper here.
I've come from Dublin, and Malta is way cheaper. I can't think of a single thing that's more expensive...
They still have Lidl as well, if you need budget stuff
