From what I've heard, mold is a pretty big problem in some apartments in Malta. Maybe see if you can get your landlord to buy a dehumidifier for your place, or buy one yourself if not.
1. wash walls again
2. buy dehumidifier or ask landlord to buy one and use that daily in the bedroom/problem rooms
3. Air the rooms during the day
4. Keep Bathroom door closed always
5. If no dehumidifier then turn on your AC heat each evening for 2 hrs to dry out the walls
6. also buy an electric blanket to stop the bed sheets getting damp

that should keep it under control until March when problem disappears for the warmer months

Re: Malta Chatter Thread

Hey guys,

I'm French and I've been living in Malta for a year and a half. I have a resident card but no bank account. My girlfriend (who has been living here for more that 6 months), a professionnal poker player like me, and I are thinking about paying our taxes in Malta because of the new French regulation laws.

I was wondering if any of you guys are actually paying taxes in Malta. And if so, it would be cool to get in touch with someone and talk about that on skype.

I'm also interested in which % you have to pay here and what action we should take.

We have already met a lawyer working with companies but the cost of creating a company and the cost of the lawyer is pretty big.

Thank you very much for any help.

Julien

Re: Malta Chatter Thread

Hey,

I am looking for accomodation in Sliema and I prefer sharing flat with english speaking people. Unfortunately most of people looking for shared flats are Erasmus students etc. who have budget like €250 monthly for living expenses. I am not looking for some luxurious €3k/month apartments., but something in the middle (I am comfortable with paying up to €500-600/month when sharing a flat with other people). You can find great flats for 1,5k monthly with 3 bedrooms.

I have been playing poker a lot last years, but now just for fun (still looking forward to play some bigger events in Malta etc), I moved to malta month ago to work in our new office (igaming related company, one of biggest european affiliates).

Should there be anyone with similar preferences as mine, let me know please.

Many thanks,

Jan

I think it´s a clear choice to look in St Julians since that is closest to Paceville if you want to party or just go out, close to cinema, and close to casino Portomaso if you wanna play live events.

Sliema is good if you like it more relaxed in my opinion, if any1 has another opinion please shout out.

Sunny side of Tower Road, Sliema!!

There's a new building there, might be exactly what you are looking for, going for 1.6k-2k, 2/3 bedroom apartments, should be 2 or 3 available now in the building, can't remember the name of the building but it's the one basically in front of Amigos, quite exclusive, awesome view on Spinola Bay.

Had me worried for a minute till someone pointed out that anyone in Malta will still be playing on stars.com so should be business as usual.

I've been wondering about this too.

So if everybody in Malta can continue to play on stars.com, then who's the stars.eu domain for? Is it just for European players (such as the Swedes) who need to play on a .eu site for tax purposes? If that's the case, then it seems like those players might still have a problem if they wanna play on stars.eu from within Malta.

As far as Sliema vs. Saint Julian's, I've lived in both, and agree with the previous posters that Sliema is the quieter option and nicer area if you like to wander the streets and check out the old buildings, etc. Saint Julian's is close to the nightlife in Paceville as well as other entertainment and the popular Cynergi gym. But Sliema is just a little ways down the road (15-20 minutes walk, depending on which part), so it's really not so far.

If you want something really quiet, then you might also check out Swieqi, which is also close to Paceville, or Gzira, which is a grittier working-class kind of area farther down on the other side of Sliema.

.eu site is for scandinavian players so far... (swedes and norwegians imo).

doesn't make a big difference if u r in sliema or st. julians imo, sliema is quite pricey as well...

Is it the http://www.alexandrahotelmalta.com/ you are thinking off? One word of warning here.. There was a rogue website set up stating it takes bookings for this hotel but just steals your credit card info so best bet is to ring them and book your room that way. Its a nice 3 star hotel in the centre of St Julians. I had friends stay there and they had no complaints, good value for money.
Anyone know what the internet in the rooms are like for this place??? and feedback appreciated

Edit Also if this is the price of a room in an ok looking hotel, I imagine Malta is very cheap.

Also that hotels site is like 33% cheaper than expedia.

Re: Malta Chatter Thread

Internet is very very expansive in the rooms and for the same price I would try Rokna hotel I think (but I've never been Rokna) which is in the same place (very great place not far from Paceville and not noisy).

Re: Malta Chatter Thread

Has anyone out here bought a car? They're so stupidly expensive it's beyond ridiculous. I'm looking to pick up a total shít box just to get me around the island but people are still asking for 2k for something that would normally be given away for free!

My gf is bringing her car soon but not sure how the import tax will work out and if it's worth keeping it or not..

We have discussed the taxes issue a lot earlier in this thread. If you can't bring yourself to skim the whole thing then just use the Search Thread function to find various answers about tax here.

I'll link you to one of my posts where I state my opinion and recommend a good and inexpensive accountant who has worked with a bunch of poker players here. I would not recommend a lawyer or incorporating unless you are starting a real business. It is expensive and unnecessary.
