Yo travel people.
Me and my friends are going to Mallorca, close to Palma De Mallorca and I figured if any of you have ever been there and thus share some tips and info about the place.
We pretty much just rented a huge house and booked flights in the start of June without knowing much about it.

We're 8 guys at the age of 18-19 so partying places would be ideal.

Links to sites that would help us is also appriciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hehe, I haven't been since 2000, but Palma de Mallorca was good times. It'll be flooded around that time with Dutchees and Germaneisters though. If you don't speak Dutch or German, you'll be in the minority. Be careful where you end up when you are drunk, gay Irish men will try to rape you.

Really though, be careful. That island is FULL of crooks. Not the dangerous you get stabbed kind, but the gonna do everything they can to rob you short of stabbing you kind. Don't get caught in street hustle games, my friend who I thought was an intelligent fellow threw $100 worth of pesetas (that would be Euros now) down on the mix 'em up avocado shale (or whatever the **** game). Just cause you see the seed slip out and you think they made a mistake doesn't mean that is so.

There's plenty of legal brothels if that's your thing. I lost my virginity at a brothel in Mallorca at the age of 18. Make sure you at least pick an attractive girl. My drunk ass practically got raped by a big black mama named Sophia. She emptied my pockets too, robbin' me of my monies and freaked out cause I had a Swiss Army Knife. I was horribly depressed the next day, not so much cause I paid $200 or so for a behemoth, but rather cause I didn't remember it other than a drunken scribble of a journal entry and I thought it was a sad 1st time memory. But whatevs....

Go to Coco Rico Disco Pub on Arenal Beach. It's a dive, but the dude that owns it will pretty much pour you free drinks if you befriend him. Talk Tom Waits with the guy. He even asked me what kind of girls I liked and ran about the streets, dragging the only American girls that fit my description (Trust me, I'd prefer Spanish girls, but the place was all German tourists) in the whole town into the otherwise empty bar. If I woulda waited a few days I would not have so depressing a 1st time story.

There's plenty of hip and happenin' clubs in the vacinity if you like bad pop.

All seriousness: Catch a ferry to the island of Formentera. It's a little known gem, at least when I was there in April/May 2000. Me and some Japanese hippy dude I kidnapped from the ferry had a blast chatting with the locals. The island was just a 20 minute jet ferry from crowded Ibiza, and no tourists were there. We had endless stretches of white sand paradise and crystal blue water all to ourselves and whatever local girls we could bring to the beach with us. They had no idea what a gem of an island they had. I also had the best paella in my live in Formentera. i had to reserve the dish 6 hours in advance but it was worth it. After complementing him endlessly on the cooking job, he started buying me endless Jack Daniels (because I'm from Tennessee. I ran into this alot in Europe and I really prefer other Bourbons. Of course you don't say a word when people are buying you ****.) So yeah, complement people on their cooking. Jump off cliffs into the clear blue water. Run down the beach at sunset and see the crazy ship wreck that has washed up on the very tip of the 2-3 mile long 300ft wide strip of white sand that jets out into the ocean. Swim to the next small island if the weather is good.

I'm drunk so I'm ranting and dropping bad grammar like a snail drops slime. I hope I've provided something worthwhile. If you take anything from this, and you want something to do other than club 24/7, do go to Formentera and let me know if it is still the same.

Thanks for the advice, it was all very usefull. And I will take care of drunken Irish men raping me, I do have a bit of an advantage being half-Irish myself.. Or maybe not.. Cause that would probaly make me more drunk, but what ever. I'll try out that Formentera and let you know. Also might pick up a bit on my spanish and german now.. Is it hard to communicate down there if the only spanish you know after 2½ year schooling is: "Una cerveza." and my german is about the same.

Danish btw.

Yeah, there'll be tons of fat, old german women going around topless. You learn to just kind of block it out.

There you go. Hang out with them and you wont have to go to the brothels. Save some money.

Raindog, im guessing you dont work for the Mallorca tourist board!

I'd say a good percentage of the people there will speak at least basic English, communication really shouldnt be a problem. Nor should taking care of yourslef from the 'huge number of robbers and rapists'. Ive been to mallorca 6-7 times and never experienced any problems. Its not like other Cities in Europe ie Amsterdam, Budapest, where you really do need to keep your wits about you.

Its a real chill place that really comes alive at night, go ahead and enjoy yourself!

On the other hand, if you were asking about the cattle market that is Magaluf, then Raindog's advice would be warranted.

Whats with all the germans going there? Never heard of that.. And being young and from Denmark I am born with a certain hate for germans, so this really sucks.

On my first visit, I stayed at a decent hotel really close to the beach. I was meeting a friend from Spain. I got there first and tried to ask if friend had arrived. The front desk didn't speak English, I didn't speak Spanish. We were at an impasse until I decided to try German.

If hotel desks at tourist destinations don't speak English, you can bet communication outside of the native language will be something of a problem.

Well, Ive learned spanish in school for 3 years but really really suck at it.. I mean.. I think I can order a beer and I can say my name, but thats it. My two other friends which is in my class can somewhat speak spanish so I guess anything thats related to front-desk communication will be OK. It's more like, if im in town im gonna have a problem..
