Has anyone had any experience with this?

The wife and I are going to Italy for our honeymoon, but we've been married since March(we did things a lil differently obv). I talked to my travel agent and she had me call the airline to see if bringing a copy of the marriage certificate would be ok. The lady I talked to said it would be fine. However, we have a layover in Germany on the way back and I just want to be sure I will not be running into any probs. Obv I'd love to avoid the outrageous fee it will cost to change the ticket, but I also would rather just pay it than deal with a lot of bs.

Thoughts?

Ok. Why not? No one sees a possible issue here?

No problem? Maybe. But maybe not.

I just flew a domestic flight from Florida to Colorado. My full name is on driver's license, i.e., first & middle name + last name, but on my ticket was just my middle name (name I go by) + last name, & security gave me a really hard time about it.

They said new regulations are in place & that the name on ticket needs to match name on driver's license. So although name on driver's license was (for example) Steven Lee Smith, the name on my ticket was simply "Lee Smith".

Passport and Visa were in maiden name, ticket in new name. No-one cared.

Well if you want a theorical explanation , the law is against you on this.

But in practice , you need to run really really and i mean really bad to run into someone who will give you problem about this.

Moreover , you are going for honeymoon. You are practicaly untouchable on vacation.

Don't want to unduly cause concern but I had an identical situation flying with my wife from Belfast to Amsterdam (booked it as a surprise and she hadn't thought to update passport).

According to the airline (easyjet) it was a big no no, so we rescheduled allowing enough time to change passport.

That was the case for an Irish passport holder flying inside the EU, so not sure what your circumstances are. Best to check and double check imo.

I've never had issues going by my middle name with documentation with first name.

Thanks for all the info guys.

My travel agent has reassured me that this shouldn't be a problem. I actually emailed her asking to just change the name to avoid any issues and she adamantly stated that there should be no issues if I talked to UA and they said I only needed a certificate.

Ugh. What a pain in the ass.

I would call the airline directly. Why trust a travel agent on something like this?
