Hi, I'm going to SEA at the end of august. My initial plan was to live a longer period (about 7 months) in Thailand and grind. Yesterday I found a cool Intereview with a guy living and grinding in Cambodia. Here it is: http://www.rakeback.com/poker/playin...r-in-cambodia/

So, I re-thought about my plan to go to Thailand and I think I would rather go to Cambodia. I'm new to this forum and this seems to be the biggest blog regarding poker and living in Cambodia?! So I have a few questions, maybe you guys can answer.

I just want to live there and grind. Basically eat healthy, excercise regularly, sleep and grind my ass off. These are my main goals for the time. So, I checked out Sihanoukville a little bit and I like it. Can anyone recommend a Hotel/Appartment/Room near a beach area for about 400-450$ per month? I would like to live in a touristy area in the beginning. When I look on Booking.com and sites like that the deals that they offer seem to be too expensive. Some other sites I checked out (sihanoukville real estate ones) I found nothing that I like.

I would like the atmosphere of a Hotel-like room, with other tourists around, service, near the beach, pool, bar, restaurants and so on. Can I get this for about 500$ maximum a month?

Anyone with expirience in this area? Or maybe someone can show me something somewhere else.

Thanks in advance guys.

Ok so I guess the best line is to go there and negotiate monthly prices directly on site. In the interview he said he never paid more than 330$ per month. On Booking.com for example, for 300$ per month, you basically get a bed in a room, that's it. Not even a desk and a chair (which is obv a must for grinding properly) in these rooms. I mean I'm looking for little bit more comfort and "luxury" than that.

It depends on the time of the year, in off season places that are like $20+ a night will probably bite your hand off for $500 p/m but obviously won't be interested in peak season when they're fully booked up.

You should just get an apartment on that budget IMO, you'd get a really nice one. I mean the place is full of tourists and and you'll be a 2-5 minute walk or drive from the beach & the bars/hotel's you're talking about... do you really have to live in one as well?

I dunno. It's about the atmosphere of the environment I guess. When you're in an Apartment, it feels like you're more on your own and when you stay in an Hotel-ish environment you're more surrounded by other people...other tourists or employees. This would give me a better feeling in the beginning I guess, when it's just easier to get into contact with random people.

So september till december will be part of the low season in cambodia. I will just go to different places and aks them for their prices for monthly rates or maybe a set price for two or three months or something like that.

Check those out, that will give you an idea what you can get for your money. Just contact the agents when you get there, don't give money un advance for something you haven't seen yet. Get a hotel for a few nights, get in touch with a few agents, then have them show you around a few palces.

I would of thought Snooky would be easy to get a discount monthly rate, likewise so too for PP. Just go around and ask the hotels/guesthouses when yo get there. you could contact them now whilst you are still at home, just look on booking.com and select a few that you like, email and ask for monthly rates, tell them you are willing to stay x amount of months.

I've mentioned that the $1-$1 Omaha game has been very popular, but now the game seems to be going round the clock again with a few whales in town and some former $5-$5 players now playing in the game. A group of players from Sihanoukville have even arrived in an attempt to take advantage. The game last night managed to last about 30 hours before players just needed a break. The game actually reconvened three hours later and went early into the morning yet again. All of this is on top of the fact that we have decided to throw our quarterly guarantee for $7,500 at the end of the month on July 30th. The marketing for this event is completely in my domain so my plate is very full for the next few weeks. I am encouraged by the fact that we already have 13 out of the 44 seats already reserved.

In the midst of all this was my scheduled day off yesterday and while I usually go into the room anyway, this time I decided to stay away for the most part. I do double shifts all the time and on the last one the game went until the morning and no one relieved me. I don't mean to sound too sour, but I really didn't feel like doing anyone any favors yesterday so other than peaking my head in during the day for a couple of hours I stayed away from the room.

So I arranged a dinner with a couple of the players at one of our favorite spots, Larry's on street 110. Being so close to the Riverside, well you can figure out what happened next I'm sure. We probably hit up about eight different bars, culminating at street 104. We ended up at Street One Zero Four Bar where I have a stalker who never leaves me alone. I generally avoid this bar for that reason which is a shame since they have a great lineup. But then one of my friends just told me to nut up so we went and I ignored her the entire time. I ended up hanging out with this girl who changed her look recently. Usually the whole skin whitening thing doesn't work for me, but something about this one is making me want to return later and grab her up. We went to one more spot where I used to take this one girl all the time. She started to annoy me after a while so I stopped going but I was quickly reminded why I liked her so much. When you're in your forties going through a midlife crisis and daydream about banging 19 year old girls, this is the one you imagine; fuc*ing young, cute face and a natural body that just won't quit. I really have to add her back into the rotation.

Residences by the beach are harder to come by but if you're looking for monthly deals for guesthouses you'll have better luck. Any free WiFi you get will be spotty at best. Get a 4G SIM card and tether your laptop to your phone when grinding. There are some healthy spots in town like Dao of Life, but specialty places will always be more expensive. If you want to eat healthy you'll have to cook a lot. The two main markets are Samudera and Orange Market (Google is your friend) but you may want to checkout the big local market Phsar Leu. Sharpen your negotiating skills and learn to walk away. The Tuk Tuks are completely mobbed up there so they'll cost you more than even Phnom Penh. I would suggest getting a moto to get around. Most gym rat friend's of mine went to the Golden Lion Gym. Avoid Serendipity and Ocheuteal Beach; you'll most likely enjoy Otres 1 and 2 much better. Personally I didn't live on the beach but rather downtown. The city is small enough that nothing is really far away. If you lived in downtown you would still be able to get to all the beaches relatively quickly. One of the better spots in that area to live was where my buddy 4_chainz and another poker playing couple lived. If you look up his old posts you should be about to find pictures of the apartment. Or you can call Madam Ek at 011872590 but she speaks limited English. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Some of the girlie bars in town have really stopped up their game. We've been hanging out at the Office a lot on street 118 and they built a small stage on the upper level above the bar where girls will get up and dance several times throughout the night. We had dinner first though before heading out to drink. We went to one of our favorite spots Metro Hassakan, an upscale place on the Riverside. Then we hit up about five bars and most of us found a girl, with one remaining friend still looking when I left him around 3:00 AM. I got a girl from Renton's bar, the one I previously mentioned is the best friend of my ex's younger sister. I took her to the hotel at riverking, dropped her back off at the bar then met my friend for a bite to eat. I have to be back in the poker room in about six hours. We have a special dinner being brought in from the butcher shop across the street so it should be a busy day.

Yeah that's my plan now. I already found some nice Hotel-ish locations on Booking and I'll get in contact with them.

Man, the Queenco Deluxe Doubleroom for around 70-80 bucks looks so nice. It would be perfect for me, but I think even if I can negotiate a set 3 month stay or more it would be too expensive, but I'll ask them also, just out of curiosity.

Thanks for the other links too, I'm gonna check them out.

Where do I get these 4G Sim Cards? Directly at the airport? Regarding my diet and healthy eating, I have no worries at all. I am what you would call a fruitarian. Means I'm eating mostly just fruits over the day and then in the evening a starchy meal with vegetables. The fruits in Thailand are epic, so I guess in Cambodia it's not much different. Can you elaborate on why I should avoid certain beaches? I'm gonna check out 4_chainz appartment pics later, definetly also interested in what I can get apartment-wise with my budget.

So my general plan for now is: fly to Bangkok, stay there for 3-4 nights. Take a flight to Pnom Phen, stay there for a couple of nights. Get a Business visa for one year there (280$ or so I read) and then see where I'm going to stay. Maybe Pnom Phen is cool for me and I like it and I decide to stay there for the first time, who knows. Definetly going to check out Hotels and Appartments there also.

4G SIM cards you can get at the airport and I would suggest you do that. The three main companies are Smart, Cellcard and Metfone; I use Smart. You want to avoid certain beaches because they're dirty as fu*k. Serendipity is where every tourist gets dropped off and it's also where the sewer line gets dumped into. Places like Otres 2 are a bit further away, but much cleaner and more secluded. Don't commit to anything once you're in Sihanoukville. Just visit for a few days and see how you like it compared to Phnom Penh. You might be surprised as to where you prefer.

Since we've been talking about Sihanoukville lately I wanted to bring up that girls from there still text me once in a while. It's nothing of any consequence; just them asking me when I'm coming back to see them and buy them a drink and other times from girls who don't even realize after eight months that I don't live there anymore. I got such a text tonight from a girl that I used to hang out with towards the end of my stay. At first she was this young looking girl that I didn't think too much of. In fact I believe she was the first picture that 4_chainz ever posted on this thread (shown below). But by the end she had turned into this girl that I probably would have killed one of you to be with. I've posted her picture previously here a few times, but she was one of those "I'm an original, I don't go home" girls. So if any of you are wondering about the girlie scene in Sihanoukville it's filled with girls you can't take home, that you shouldn't take home and will never take home.

Hi there, here to extract some value from this thread once again.

I am planning to touch down in Cambodia soon and one of my plans is to buy a motorcycle, and travel to other countries in SEA. Although i know how to ride one, I do not have a license from my country.

I was thinking of taking a license in Cambodia. However, i'm unsure if the Cambodian license will be accepted in other countries.

Does anyone have a clue on this?

Thanks

You don't need a license if the moto is 110cc or under.

I plan to ride out of the country, so I would be needing a license for that and was wondering if a Cambodian motorcycle license would be valid in other countries as well.

Nevermind, I managed to find out that an ASEAN license is valid throughout other ASEAN countries too. That's awesome.

I was watching youtube and I thought this would be a great social media for you to do a Cambodia Poker Nightlife vblog on, I have been watching Andrew Neeme almost since he started Vbloging his poker on youtube, in less then a year he has over 60,000 subs and 7 million views, he has gotten sponsors (free trips and buy ins) been on some other Blogs like Doug Polk and Joe Ingram doing interviews. There are 100's of monger and retirement VBlogs from Thailand and I think since you are in Cambodia you can take advantage of something not yet offered in that area, plus you already have a big following so you start out ahead of the others. You can get the casino you work at to sponsor you, it will drive business into the casino so it is a win win for you and them.
