and dante seriously man just wear a rubber. you will be hating life if you catch anything and thinking how stupid you are for not wearing one. it really isnt worth the risk if you are having sex with hookers then wear a condom.

If it was me id sit on a bus if I was short of cash depending n what the saving would be and how safe it is.

I have some advice, though expect neither to be taken too seriously and won't get bent out of shape when I'm ignored. Most people don't follow advice.

One - Wear condoms. This advice is obvious. STDs are hellish nightmares, from everything I've read. Have you seen some of those pictures? I don't want my underparts to be pussing or oozing or turn into some reprehensible ****.

If you can look at some google images of some commons STDs and still not wear a condom, all the power to you. Do whatever the hell you want. At least take 5 minutes to gander what a consequence is.

My second piece of advice is don't go to Pattaya, it sure as hell isn't worth a 6 hour bus ride IMO. And even if you CAN have a good time there, you can't afford it. Hell, I spent 50$ just drinking in one night (including transportation and buying maybe one or two lady drinks when I was already hammered). Everyone there will try to rip you off and it's a pain in the ass to haggle to a reasonable rate. For example, I wanted to take an 80 baht taxi ride, or maybe 60 baht scooter ride. They all started the bidding at 300 baht. I'm no dillweed, but I must look like a sucker. I walk away and they start screaming "250, 200, 150!!!" ****ing hell off I've already walked away. Maybe if they didn't refuse to use the meter and try to rip me the hell off, ten dollars for a three dollar fare at most, they'd get some business. Every third damn shop has an Indian trying to sell you a suit and grab your hand to shake it. I don't want to shake your hand man. I know you don't wash it because these bathrooms don't have soap. Or tp. Do. Not. Touch.

But still they get in your way as you try to walk past, trying as they might to grab your hand and make eye contact. Every tenth shop has masseuses who want to holler at you, or those bars where gir's ask "where you stay!" or "you so handsome!"

There are redeeming qualities to Pattaya. But these annoyances are very real. And to me it creates an atmosphere I don't want to be around.

Try to figure out a shorter ride to another border town to cross over. Cheaper, less time wasted.

ya pattaya is a pretty bad option for many reasons, 5 hour bus ride to PP, $160 on plane tickets, hotels for while im there, then all the stuff you mentioned, then 5 hour bus ride to come back

lol @ the guys trying to shake your hand, im used to all the people trying to get your attention, not used to anyone trying to shake my hand

but ez u know how cheap i am, i can do pattaya on hotel cost + food cost + beach road girl and not get hurt to bad, still not the right option though

im glad you wrote that up though, it was a place i was considering living at some point (not strongly considering but still had it as an option) and its good to get someone i knows perspective on the place, and you can be happy in knowing i am 100% taking your advice on that one, lets just forget u ever wrote up the other

ive found a shorter bus ride, it seems as if its gonna cost in the $35-$45 range and take 9 hours or so, plus i would have to wake up at 8am which is like the middle of the night, i dont think thats worth saving $140 dollars over, i think im just gonna do my best to negotiate with the travel agency and hope to get them down to $150

sofocused - i screwed up and got the wrong visa on arrival, finally a travel noob mistake has caught up with me and is gonna cost me about $175 as the money im paying isnt to extend my visa, its to change the type of visa i have, so i have to bring $260 up there tomorrow just to get a 3 month visa which would have cost $80 had i not screwed up

moral of the story is ask for a business visa on arrival

1. You need to get a visa to enter Vietnam. It's not that cheap

2. $30-35 is way too much money for a 9 hour bus ride in Cambodia. $15 would be high. Even in Thailand where buses are not that cheap in comparison a 9 hour VIP bus (waay nicer than anything in Cambodia) costs a little under $20, little more for some companies

Not the kind of post I would normally make. I just wrote this to see if K2D would run out and do the opposite because that seems to be what he is programmed to do.

There's also Plan E, pack up and head to PI.

justice, according to various sources (sihanoukvilleonline forum and other google searching) you can cross at this border spot without a visa, they just say that you must stay in that area and if you try to leave the country from another crossing you are gonna be in trouble

also that seems to be about what the total costs of the trips are, though information on this is very hard to find

i could be wrong, it might be $15 total if you take the one bus that goes out of sihanoukville to the place and back, but im pretty sure its $15 just to go there, or $6 for a bus to kampot and $8 to the border

sigh so now wabby through email is telling me that the paying $180 under the table idea is bad because they will just take my passport to the border and if it gets caught i could get locked up/deported

this blows i gots no clue what to do
