Free food is standard in casinos around the world because players pay high rake, more than the cost of the food. So are comps like discounts on the hotel room. I'm not sure what the rake is like so can't comment.

Not sure what the casino is paying waiters either. Some people think tipping is for above and beyond service. Just getting food served at the table seems a standard service in a card room.

Main point being why are you telling people what to do and getting butthurt when it's a widely debated, optional concept. It's like someone preaching to you about not gambling, not doing bargirls, or anything else... you'd want them to keep their opinion to themselves.
Seems a standard service? I thought you just implied everyone's standard Is different...."brah".

If your throwing this rhetoric around at a table in a casino, then yes you will get opinions. As you stated in original post, you just threw it out there to see what comments you'd get. Your fishing for fish you can't handle.

Reckon fatbones is that guy who makes sure everyone sees that he tips, brings up conversations about the tip at the bar after the game, mentioning how that $1 means 'so much to them', makes eye contact with the waiter when he makes the tip and does this face in self satisfaction.

Then after he sinks a few whiskeys continues to haggle a bar girl down from 20 to $15

I actually don't like people to see me tip. Your not as smart as you think you are. You way off. Not even close to true. It's ok, everyone has their opinion. Cheers

I'm wondering where/when Fatbonesbluehat originally jumped on the tipping train.

It's not an ideal you were born with so how did you come around to it being such an obvious moral decision to you?

Ok I'll bite. My father taught me that not all people make a ton of money. Some people are dealt a different life, and it's not always by their own doing. It's imperative to smile and say thank you when someone dies something nice for you. Most of us know that servers, casino girls, dealers work on a different rate than the norm. It gives them an opportunity to make more than the business can pay, and the incentive to give great service. It's a real simple act of appreciation for someone cleaning your **** up, that you obviously didn't care to go home and make.

I salute you and more so your parents fatbones. As a side note. I have never felt more welcome in a poker room than at Riverking, and look forward to going back (and this coming from someone who lost a fair chunk there). The servers, staff, poker_triad will all go out of there way to get whatever you need. They are always friendly, always happy.

They create a pleasant playing atmosphere, and to me, this is why I tip. Being greeted by name and a cup of coffee when I walk in the door. Food within minutes. The level of service they provide, in my opinion, is probably one of the best I've experienced in a card room.

That's great but it's optional and not your place to tell other players what to do / imply they're doing something wrong - 'be polite and give a dollar tip when the waiter fetches your plate and clears your food' - then blow up 'guess you only care about yourself' when at all questioned.

Doesn't doing that risk the playing atmosphere. What prompted the initial post? Did you see someone not give a dollar to a waiter for fetching his food and clearing his plate and rush to post about it before things 'get ugly'?

I didn't post the original post bruh.......... it's also optional if they want to give you superb service. They could just get your food to you whenever.....clean your mess up whenever.....I also didn't demand anyone to tip. Do as you wish, I only stated my opinion in which you admitted you were fishing for.

Think this was directed at me, not you blue. You're completely right. Not my place to instill values and morals in you.

I merely said be kind, I didn't say you have to, it was a suggestion, nor did I imply anyone is doing anything wrong by not tipping. Not everyone is a kind person, and not everyone treats one another as equals, quite clearly.

Anyways, enough derailing of a great and informative thread.
I've had enough of your trolling, and won't dignify any more responses.

When you going? There's going to be a nice $7500 GTD tournament coming up soon there. I'm hopefully headed back east in a couple months again.

Of course tipping is anyone's prerogative to do or not do. I certainly don't want to take any money out of those Cambodian employees pockets, but I think it's important to be mindful of the fact that tipping is a cultural thing. In most, if not all, Asian countries it is not standard and traditionally has not been a thing. You can try and argue it from a place of moral suppuriority if you want to, but in reality if you go to Cambodia and expect everyone to tip because it's the norm you're used to that's actually just you forcing a different cultures cultural beliefs on to a cultural that doesn't have those beliefs or norms and actually that's kind of not cool.

Better to suspend your previous beliefs of what is right and what isn't, and keep your ego in check, and instead of forcing your expectations on those in Cambodia, be open minded and humble enough to learn there cultural norms and adopt those while staying there.

When in Rome do as the Roman's do...And all that.

Or if you can't help yourself but to follow your native cultures beliefs and norms even when in a foreign culture then in this instance I'd have to agree with Jspill that you should just keep it to yourself and not get on a high horse that isn't even really there anyway.

Not trolling. This isn't much of a derail and mods will delete it later.

You're backpedalling - what you wrote is 'give a tip'. That isn't a suggestion. *The waiters will have to go fetch your food, clear your plate, etc. Be kind, say thank you, and give a dollar tip. They are also making their own living there.

Now you bring up morals, values, parenting, and sarcastically imply I 'quite clearly' don't treat a waiter as an equal. You've gone off the deep end.

Paying rake helps the waiter indirectly. If someone wants to give extra that's fantastic. But don't look down on those that only pay rake. The casino pays the salary.

I'd contest that it's you that doesn't treat others as equals. The soft bigotry of low expectations - this lowly waiter needs my additional charity, I'm better than the players that don't tip as much, etc. Self righteousness.
