Suspected 'heart attack' that's usually how they report accidental heroin overdose in cocaine sized doses.

The point isn't that it's dangerous, it's just a reminder to buy the right stuff if you're going to do coke there.

Id say an even better advice is NOT to do coke anywhere in Asia, just as you should never eat a pad thai in Medellín.

What to say about Cambodia? It is one big fat-ass dirt hole that spoiled my APT. Caught food poisoning from eating at a restaurant. Was flat for 3 days.

You can really only eat at 4 or 5 star hotels in Sihanoukville and even then you need to be worried to catch something. I'll return once the government has committed to food standards!

You just got unlucky there. I have been living in Sihanoukville for a couple of years now and almost never get food poisoning. In many cases, the street food is actually better because they tend to buy the ingredients fresh from the market each day. The 4 or 5-star hotels keep a bit of storage and things can go bad after time. Just find the vendors with many people around or in line and it is never disappointing. Sihanoukville is a great city but can take some getting used to.

Red Fox $20 rebuy runs Monday 7pm, Wednesday 7pm & Friday 6pm. There is a River King tournament on Sunday afternoons but I haven't played that in a while and believe they changed the structure/buy in but some others have played it so should be able to answer that.

RK sunday tournament is $25 rebuy now, with double rebuy and double addons available.

If I heard correctly at RF there's no add-ons on Monday & Wednesday, only Saturdays but all three have unlimited rebuys for the first hour. You start with 100bbs but if you're there on time they give you an extra 50bbs.

Hey, so I've been looking for a place to relocate for awhile now and just started considering Cambodia. I've spent some time in Thailand and really enjoyed it but had trouble getting a long term visa without taking a class and getting a student visa. After a bit of research Cambodia seems like a much easier place to stay longer term, is that still the case? How does Cambodia compare to Thailand in sense of cost, safety, cleanliness, internet, ect.? Also is there a big poker community still there? Anyway thanks in advance for any help and information you can provide.

I think in an ideal world I would have chosen either Thailand or the Philippines when initially planning my move from the States. But as the visa issue became more paramount I ultimately decided on Cambodia. It is still very easy to stay long term in this Country and it is just really a matter of paying. When you land at the airport, be sure to apply for a ordinary visa or e-visa. You will pay $35 which will be good for one month, after which you can renew for up to one year at $300. Any local travel agency, or sometimes even your hotel, can handle the renewal for you.

In terms of cost I really do believe that Phnom Penh is overpriced. From what I have researched and what other travelers have told me, it seems to be more expensive than cities like Chiang Mai and Pattaya. Sihanoukville is much cheaper but also a bit more "third world." I currently live in Sihanoukville and I find the internet service to be a bit more spotty here. Certain products and services are also difficult to find at times as certain things have to be ordered from Phnom Penh. And while I do feel the Western restaurants here are underrated, they are still a level below those in Phnom Penh.

I have found both cities to be relatively safe. Being a poker player I obviously keep late hours and have not found it an issue when coming out of casinos or riding home late at night. I think as long as you stay smart about certain things you should be fine; don't buy girls/drugs from unfamiliar sources, move about with friends when late or going to certain areas, and be mindful of your associations.

As far as cleanliness is concerned, Cambodians have a habit of throwing trash everywhere. I have even seen trash collected by trucks, only to be dumped later on the side of a remote road. Street and market food is generally fine as ingredients are usually fresh. If anything I do sometimes wonder about the cleanliness of those preparing the food. In my two years living here I've had food poisoning only once and it was from eating at my hotel and not street food. I will say though that if you have lived in Thailand previously, you will most likely find the quality and taste of Cambodian street food to be disappointing.

There is a poker community in both Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. In the former, it is easy to hook up with people when hanging out or playing in places like River King and the Red Fox. The community in Sihanoukville is obviously smaller, but there are those of us who do break bread or share a drink together several times during the week. It is also easy to reach out here in this thread to whoever may be in town.

Hope this helps and good luck.

triad summed it up very well. The only thing I would add is if you ride a moto, either make sure you are totally legal or be prepared to pay some bribes (small $$).

Lately I've enjoyed the company at Lion City more than the game itself. I'm not really winning much, especially after I dusted off $200 yesterday, and I'm kind of sick of playing the same guys everyday. The low season and the presence of "other" games in town have not helped either. Right now I don't want to deal with getting texts from poker rooms desperate for customers or waiting around all day to start a game. I really don't want to see a live deck for a while so today I played online all afternoon, something which I'll probably continue for at least a few more days. It's almost dinner time here and I've been stuck inside all day so I'm going to go get a girl, eat dinner then head to 4_chainz' bar - in that order. It's hard to get too stressed out when you can wake up on any given day to fu*k, eat and drink for $30.

You were right about viet girls vs khmer girls triad. Anyways good luck online, I doubt you'll find a game more soft than lion city.
