Thanks for the input boys. Going to take the advice and get up super early to beat the crowds. Won't be a problem cause I'm still jet lagged and waking up in middle of night anyway.
Should I just hire a guide from the hotel for the day and what is a reasonable price for one? I read a guys travel blog and he was promoting a service that was 65 pounds seemed way high but if that's going rate whatever - basically a driver, entry fees and some water would be all I'd want.
Or if a guide is spew I'll just do it myself
Any local dishes I must eat? ... I'll eat anything in Thailand except street food that's iffy safety wise. Spicy is fine.
I imagine by guide they mean someone who will wake you around and give you a bunch of information about everything which I imagine would be pretty annoying and severely distract from the experience. Just hire a Tuk Tuk driver for the day who will just drop you off at each temple and wait for you finish then take you to the next one.

This - absolutely no need for a guide.. if you want to know more about the temples as opposed to just looking at them & reading the sign posts then buy a book which would cost like $1 and you can read it while walking around as a sort of a self-guide.
Really glad I came here this wknd. Angkor Wat is incredible - arrived at 6am and it was crowded by 730 loved it.
Really like khmer food ... nice change after eating a week of super spicy thai. Spices more subtle. French influence? And how can you go wrong with 50 cent draft!
People here broke as F even by SE Asia standards eye opening for sure. Everybody is hustling to make a buck can't hate.
Anyone wants to grab a beer tomorrow in SR and/or visit Angkor Wat on tuesday? I'll arrive with the 15.15 bus from PP, idk where I'll be staying yet, any advice on nice hotels (30-40$ range)?
I follow george leeman on youtube, famous powerlifter. He just decided to say screw the 9 to 5 and move to Cambo and is posting a bunch of videos on it, worth a follow.

It's sad for Cambodia few month ago and was already disappointed by the beaches in Sihanoukeville. I tried Otres - it's nice but have seen nicer place both in Vietnam and Thailand. To learn that the beach is already threaten by construction projects and that it's supposed to be the best beach in Cambodia is not a great new for the country
In other news after crossing several times the boarder between Cambodia and Vietnam I always had the feeling that the casinos were looking dodgy . It seems to be confirmed: http://somuchpoker.com/horror-storie...s-in-cambodia/

Pay your debts or better don't make debts and you will be just fine.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I were a winning reg in that casino (those victims may have lost their last loans to you).
